MGS March Madness Thread

I'm not sure if there are any other basketball fans here on MGS, but I, for one, am ready for the tournament! I would like to see:

 

People praise their team and slam their rivals

Make predictions

Discuss games & results

Say anything else related to college basketball

 

 

 

I'll start. I'm a Duke graduate and I spent 4 years as a manager for the men's basketball team. "That's my team" does not begin to cover it. I am obviously picking Duke to win it all this year. I think the selection committee set us up with a pretty easy road to Indianapolis, with the exception of possibly playing Baylor in Houston.

 

I haven't dissected the bracket yet, so I will have to return to this thread later with my final four picks.

 

Two instant wins for me, regardless of the outcome of the tournament: UNC and UConn playing in the NIT. UNC missing the tournament allows me to pull out one of my favorite jokes: "What do flip flops and the NCAA tournament have in common? NO HEELS!!!" Hahahaha. Go to hell, Carolina, go to hell!

I'm torn. Being a Big 10 hater, I'd pull for your Gauchos, but I need Ohio State alive to beat Kansas, who I hate much much more.

 

This NCAA thing is making me realize that maybe I am a hater.

Speaking of the Big 12, WTF Texas? From #1 ranking to 8 seed? That is, bar none, the most talented 8 seed EVER. Forever, ever. If I was Kentucky, I would be s***ing myself at that match up possibility. When I watched Texas play Michigan State earlier in the year I thought Texas might run away and never be seen from again - they were playing like poop and still whipping MSU, who was playing well. I have since learned that "like poop" is just the way Texas plays. But all it takes it 40 minutes to eliminate the University of Kentucky John "$$$" Caliparis from the tournament.

After Texas lost to KSTATE, they went downhill fast... Don't want to talk about them... My Kansas teams are doing pretty good.

I'm rooting for Lehigh from the Patriot league because I've applied to go there (I'm a high school senior), but if I had to pick I'd take Kentucky, with Michigan State as a sleeper, they always seem to surprise me.

I think Syracuse has a walk to the Final Four, if they play well.

 

Michigan State has looked like real garbage, but I'd love to see them beat Kansas. And Tommy Izzo does always build for March.

 

This is going to be a terrible tournament for the ACC. I don't think more than 2 of the 6 teams will get to the round of 32.

 

My preliminary final four: Duke, Syracuse, Georgetown, West Virginia.

Syracuse-Kansas state in the elite eight would be a tough match up. I loved watching the Orange last year.

If Syracuse plays well, we should go far... but with our big man out for a couple days with a calf injury from the Big East championship, it's difficult to play... Keep an eye out for Wes Johnson, he could be the player of the tournament... He's a blast to watch....

I was unaware that the term was Dukie. That does not seem the most positive of monikers.

Just FYI, one of your senior stars is from Oregon!!!!! Kyle Singler is from Medford Oregon. One of my buddies was his middle school basketball coach 10 years ago. So I have to root for the Dukies this year, as much as it pains me.

Oh, I know that well. He was one of the biggest recruits in my time there.

 

All kidding aside, I've never understood the hatred of Duke. We don't cheat, our kids graduate, it's a great school...what's not to love?

Yeah, he's a senior this year. He's played great this season. He really filled a gap with Pendergraph gone.
