I used blades and only blades for 56 years, only switched twice, so only 3 blades over 56 years. Switched to a mallet in May 2020, and I’ll never go back. But what someone else uses wouldn’t have much influence on my choice…

Series 7 style for me.. or fanged putters. Altho the Ping Fetch is inviting as well.

Those two styles help my alignment and since going to them I have never had better putting results.

I have both of those and don't intend on going blade route. However for me it seems to be shaft difference that has caught me a bit off guard. The Strokelab shaft is far superior for me vs a standard steel.

I'm not proud of this... but...

  • Scotty Cameron Special Select Newport 2.5
  • Scotty Cameron Jet Set Newport 2 Ltd.
  • Odyssey 2 ball Ten
  • L.A.B. DF 2.1

All 4 rotate in and out of my bag depending on how confident I am with each at the time.

I prefer the look of the blade putters above, but appreciate the benefits of the mallet as well.

I have one putter in my bag, the L.A.B. Golf DF2.1

There are many like it but this is the one I chose with a single alignment line as long as the mallet head.  I selected the mallet head because it is easy to observe before and during the swing that the club face is properly meeting the ball for a putt in the direction I intend for it to go.  My putting swing is designed to be clubhead centric so that all my attention is on keeping the line parallel to the intended starting path of the putt and the ball is just an incidental blur at the point of contact as it should be for every swing regardless of club type.

I like putters so I try different putters; I have tried most every style and have had the most success with blade or at most a small mid-mallet style.  Through my various trials and experiments mallets just don’t work for me.  I really need to commit to one putter; since I would probably be a better putter, but the temptation is high.

I've always had a mid mallet style putter. Started with a Nike OZ T100 that was given to me by one of my uncle's friends. Absolutely loved the feel and it rolled the ball well, but I decided I needed a new one so sold it and went to a Taylormade Spider Tour a couple seasons ago. Really like that one as well, but the feel of that Nike putter was amazing. Softer feeling at impact, still somewhat regret selling it.

I alternate  between Scotty Newport 2.5 & Odyssey 2 ball mallet putter.  On faster greens I'm finding the soft insert in 2 Ball feels much better, consequently more confident. However, I went through a fitting process which determined Blade was what I should be using. Right now the 2 ball Odyssey Mallet is in the bag!

We are always looking for the perfect putter, but is there really such a thing?  But maybe I am getting a bit off subject, so I will direct my comments to the question asked.  I have tried numerous styles over the years and regardless of the brand it always comes back to the Anser style putter.  Currently I maintain two putters in my inventory.  I have the 2020 Select Special Newport 2 35" and the new Ping PLD Black Matte Milled Anser 35".  For faster greens I prefer the Ping and the Scottie on all other greens.  Could be that in between thing, you know, in between the ears.  It all goes back to the individual pulling the trigger and the confidence that goes with rolling the ball to the hole.  Just like the pros, we have good putting days and some days that hole just seems to tighten up.  Love that Anser style putter.

Face balanced, mallets.  Have 3, different weights.  Like the heaviest one the best, it is the most stable on the short putts, while all 3 work well for me on the long putts.

Driver: PXG 0211, A flex Evnflo Riptide (2021). And an old Callaway 454 TI (2004) on regular flex.

6,7,8,9,wedge: Ping I 500, on Recoil reg flex shafts.

Christof, I spent a lot of time (beginning Jan 2015)  converting to cross handed, and looking at the hole on putts longer than about 6 or 7 feet.  Courtesy of Jordan Speith.  I Had a center shaft Odyssey face balanced and a Musty wood mallet also face balanced.  Someone stole the Odyssesy.  I bot a Cameron circa 2015 Futura X, with the big flying counterweights.  I liked the Musty but had trouble keeping the short ones straight.  I considered adding weight to the head/bottom of the shaft to keep it from twisting.  But instead I starting working on stability with the heavy Futura.  It won.  I also have a K-mart brand mallet style that is lightweight, but am ready to give it back to a thrift store since I like the Musty and love the Cameron.  I might entertain a new putter, but it will be a pretty heavy, face balanced design, whether Ping, Evnroll, or any other newcomer.  I have NO FEAR on the greens.  It is almost as much fun as banging a driver on a wide fairway.

I go back and forth between my Ping Cadence TR B65 which I would call a mid-sized blade style, and my Guerin Rife 2 bar hybrid mallet which is amazing.

Guerin Rife was the most popular putter on the PGA Tour Champions when it came out - still great flat stick.

I have Winn Pistol grips on both but am going to try a larger Superstroke grip, NHL version that has the Detroit Red Wings colors and logo all over it to see what I have been missing.

One thing, I don't like to switch putters from round to round, I'll keep playing for at least a month.  Keeping a feel and liking the two ball.
Funny story: I go to TaylorMade Lab for fitting & bring my 2 ball.
Club fitter takes me to outside putting green & to demonstrate the difference between the Odyssey 2 ball and their Taylormade mallet putters.
We start out, Fitter says: this is 75 foot putt, take your 2 Ball and putt to the hole with flag in it & I'll show you difference in how ball rolls between Odyssey & Taylor.
I hit the putt it breaks to hole and I sink it.
The club fitter looks at me, gives me a fist bump, smiles, he says putting fitting over, keep playing your 2 ball, he walked back inside he did give me a sleeve of balls, then I left. 🤣🤣 it was funny.
That convinced me to keep playing the 2 Ball. (at least for now 😂)

Sounds like a terrible fitting and a guy that didn’t want to do his job.  You make a single  putt that you had less than 2% chance of making and that determined that the putter is the best fit for you?  Putting ability and/or a properly fit putter is determined by evaluating a series of putts over a period of time.   Maybe then 2 ball is the right putter for you, but your fitting didn’t determine that it was.

In all fairness, That was at the end of a 1 1/2 hour fitting. I did buy the irons and got a free sleeve of balls, which really weren't free 😂

Rescue:  Apex 4 (22 degree )- Recoil 75H stiff flex

Wedges: Titleist SM8 - 54 (D Grind) wedge flex; SM8 58(M grind) wedge flex

Putter: Scotty Cameron Phantom X5.5

Ball: Titleist ProV1

Thanks for the clarification; you original post read as one putt and done.

The putter fitting was a one putt & done.  That's what was funny, draining a 75 ft putt, found it amusing, especially the look on his face.

Then my original point was correct…Bad fitting.  Your making a putt is meaningless from a fitting perspective.
