Golfspy_CG2
COBRA Golf TM , a leader in golf club innovation, today introduced its new family of AEROJET TM Drivers, Fairways and Hybrids. The AEROJET TM driver family builds on the impressive design and performance attributes of the previous LTDx lineup and debuts a bold new aerodynamic shape in all three models – the AEROJET LS TM , AEROJET TM , and AEROJET MAX TM to deliver faster clubhead speed and ball speed. Each driver and fairway features PWR-BRIDGE Weighting Technology, the company’s first ever suspended weight design. The new technology utilizes an internal bridge structure that is elevated above the sole to achieve a low, forward CG. The Advanced Aerodynamic Shaping of the AEROJET TM drivers is the product of years of research and testing with some of the fastest swings on the planet. When compared to a traditional driver, the AEROJET LS TM (which features the most aggressive aero shape of the three models), features a streamlined frontal area, raised aft and skirt, and a more curved crown with a peak that is moved as far from the face as possible. These design attributes contribute to a significant reduction in drag through the swing for increased clubhead speed and superior aerodynamic performance. When tested against the LTDx LS TM , the AEROJET LS TM driver produced up to 1.5mph more clubhead speed during robot testing, making these new designs the fastest and most aerodynamic COBRA ® drivers to date. The family of drivers uses progressive aerodynamic shaping and unique weighting configurations to produce the fastest clubhead speed possible, while achieving specific mass property targets for different golfers. The AEROJET LS TM (“Low Spin”) driver features the most aggressive aerodynamic shape designed for players with faster swing speeds with forward adjustable heel and toe weights (12g & 3g) that tune a neutral to fade-biased ball flight. The AEROJET M driver blends low spin performance with added stability and slightly higher launch than the LS model, using a fixed back weight (12g). While the AEROJET MAX TM delivers maximum forgiveness and trajectory height through an adjustable back and heel weight (12g & 3g) that can also be used to deliver a draw-bias when the weights are flipped. New internal technologies include PWR-BRIDGE Weighting – a 13g structure that is suspended above the sole like a bridge, to position the CG forward for maximum speed and low for reduced spin, while enabling a more flexible sole structure for improved energy transfer. The elevated PWR-BRIDGE design was critical to make room for the PWRSHELL Face Insert, which debuts for the first time in a COBRA ® driver, delivering a larger Sweet Zone for faster ball speed across the face. In conjunction with the PWRSHELL, the insert features a new H.O.T Face variable thickness pattern. H.O.T. FACE (which stands for Highly Optimized Topology) was designed using artificial intelligence and features multiple zones with optimized thicknesses and shaping to deliver more efficient speed and spin across the entire clubface. A thin ply carbon fiber structure which is 30% thinner than normal carbon fiber is utilized in a RAW FINISH in both the CROWN & SOLE resulting in freed up discretionary weight to be positioned lower in the clubhead, effectively lowering the CG location (to near zero) for improved launch and spin characteristics. The AEROJET drivers are available in three models aimed at optimizing performance for the full spectrum of players: (1) The AEROJET LS TM ($549) offers an aggressive aerodynamic shape and a refined address profile designed for skilled players that demand low launch and low spin for maximum workability and control. For added tuning, two weight ports in the sole (with 12g and 3g weights) are positioned forward in the heel and toe to help dial in a neutral to fade-biased trajectory for the better players. (2) The standard AEROJET TM ($549) is designed to appeal to the widest spectrum of players and features aerodynamic shaping for faster club speed with one weight port in the rear of the sole, providing a neutral shot shape and an impressive combination of forgiveness and speed for maximum distance. (3) The AEROJET MAX TM ($549) blends aero shaping with maximum stability and optional draw bias, allowing players to tune trajectory using adjustable weight ports in the rear and heel of the sole. By placing the 12g weight in the rear and the 3g weight in the heel, the player experiences super stable high trajectory with a small draw bias. When the heavier 12g weight is placed in the heel position, performance becomes exceptionally draw biased with good stability for forgiveness. “The aerodynamic package in the new AEROJET TM family of drivers is our most advanced to date,” said Mike Yagley, Vice President of Innovation, COBRA Golf TM . “We continue to balance the aggressive streamlining with optimum mass and resilience properties to give players maximum club head speed and ball launch characteristics for increased distance.” The men’s AEROJET TM family of metals comes in a black colorway featuring a satin matte black perimeter and a raw carbon fiber gloss crown. The sole features raw carbon fiber gloss accented with white perimeter paint with blue and red accents. GolfSpy_APH
For those interested in more photos I am curious that that so many use to use the aero tricks on the crown and talk about how it can help increase swing speed and so on however with most the new launches outside of Ping we haven't really seen that trend continue. GolfSpy BOS
The M5 crown was at least Matte, but that does seem like a good analogy. edingc
I'm obviously partial to Cobra... here's hoping they can figure out how to bring back the milling in combination with the new face tech. I only skimmed a few YT reviews, but it looked like Matt from TXG had some pretty decent results with this line paired with a Ventus TR Red. But Peter Finch complained he was spraying it all over the place and from his numbers it didn't look like it was as fast as some other drivers he has hit so far this year. All that being said, I'd definitely hit this given the chance, but I don't know that I'd buy it unless it really wowed me. I actually like the look... Splatt
I'm not a huge fan of the look of this one. Cobra have been going from strength to strength with the design of their drivers, but the Aerojet seems to be playing it a little safe. Also, I get they're trying some new face tech, but removal of the infinity face? That was literally their most unique characteristic. Me too: what a decision to stop the milled infinity face. It was a point of differentiation and a quality control. Now they look like a discount M5. Cobra has always been an underdog innovator in my book, this doesn’t look like it belongs in the cobra family of drivers from the last 4-5 iterations. Full disclosure: I love my blue LTDx LS: paired with my blue Hzrdus Smoke RDX. It’s the ultimate low spin combo for an aggressive-transition swinger like myself. null
Love Cobra, but this seems like as generic a release as you see from a major OEM. It seems extremely safe, which is very odd for Cobra. golfballwackerguy
I own the LS with Hzrdus Black. It is amazing. Spin Killer! Yet I still find the fairway with the same consistency as my Radspeed. It just hits low spin bombs for me. The best Cobra driver I have ever owned. JakeSmith2316
Recently took took the AeroJet LS out for a spin with my current shaft in my Cobra LTD Pro. It might be the fact that my current driver plays at 45” and the Aerojet is sold at 45.5” But I didn’t see a huge improvement in initial hitting with it. I do agree with others though and do prefer other drivers from Cobra over this one. I am currently partial to the LTDx LS and maybe I can pick up a lefty head for cheap with this new one coming out. Micah T
So, I talked a lot of smack about this driver when it was released. No milling, interesting, almost TM-like color ways, etc. I was way out of pocket talking about the Aerojet before hitting it. Like dead wrong. I cracked my LTDx LS, and my guy at club champion gave me a Aerojet LS head to use for the weekend(my company was having 1 of our 2 annual scrambles)The sound and feel are vastly superior to the LTDx. It wasn’t any longer, but it looks great in the playing position, and imo, just sounds amazing at impact. No need to run out and scoop one if you have the LTDx, but a fantastic club nonetheless. Cshane12
So, I picked up one of these new Aerojet drivers, the standard version, and so far all I can say is wow! I've been playing the Cobra King LTDx LS, 9* with a Graphite Design Tour AD Di-5S, which I hit pretty long, low spin, low flying, baby fading, bullets. Loved it because I was a high spin, high trajectory guy. My only complaint with the LTDx LS is that occasionally I would have a ball go way right, or the exact opposite, the dreaded pull hook. But it was only occasionally. And I know that's an indian not the arrow thing. I've played that same Tour AD shaft in a couple of drivers and really like it. But the fact is, I've lost some speed due to injuries and am now down in the 90 mph range. However, I took the LTDx LS to a studio, albeit with limited cobra shaft offerings, and tried some different regular flex shafts with the LTDx LS head. The Tour AD Di-5S combo just performed better and, on that day, even though my speeds were a little faster with the regular flex options, the Di-5S was longer and straighter. Then came my last three rounds with it. The ball was going all over the map. I was out of control, losing a lot of balls, which was frustrating because I was testing balls (Snell MTB Prime, Callaway ERC Soft, Wilson Triad, Titleist AVX), but more on that later. I was really in my own head. So, I picked up a used Aerojet because I love the way it looks at address and it had a Hazardous black 5.5, 60g shaft. Back in my Mizuno STz (the first version of that driver) I was fit into the 6.0 version of that shaft. So, I thought, the price is right, why not? Worst case I resell it. I took it out to the range alongside my LTDx LS a few different times. I saw a difference in ball flight, but I liked them both. I felt the difference between the shafts and enjoyed the feel of the Hazardous. I even swapped shaft and head combos back and forth a few times. I couldn't see a distance difference because the driving range terrain goes down into a gully out of sight around 225 yards, and beyond the last target. But I liked the way the Hazardous shaft felt. To clarify, both were 9* heads, both played on the same lowest setting, the difference in the heads is the LS version in LTDx vs the regular version of the Aerojet. The maiden voyage into play for the Aerojet was a bold (possibly stupid) choice but, I put it into play at our Men's Club tournament. Turned out to be brilliant. With the exception of two drives, I was hitting absolute bombs. Long, high, drawing, well passed everyone in my group, bombs. I was hitting it to places I haven't been in a very long time, if ever. (Oh, and I was playing the Wilson Triad ball. It doesn't have the AVX feel but boy is it a performer.) The two wayward drives happened when I was trying to absolutely smash it because I felt so confident, big dummy. Both were long and straight, but right of target. OB right on the hole with dogleg left. That's ok because my partner made par on both. We ham-n-egged it into a playoff, which we won on the first hole. I have not seen the actual numbers on a screen, but at this point, I don't need to. The Aerojet is well worth a look for anyone on the market for a new weapon. A driver that is long, consistent, and controllable is tough to beat. Also, the Wilson Triad is going to stick around. And, the LTDx LS might be hitting the market soon. Cheers to more fairways hit and birdies made. frazzman80, cnosil and Vegan_Golfer_PNW 3 Quote Driver: Cobra AeroJet 9* @ 7.5* PX Hazardous Black 5.5 3 wood: Titleist 915f @ 14.25* MCA Diamana Blue R Hybrids: Callaway Apex 17* and 21* Srixon ZX 23* driving iron Irons: Mizuno Pro 223 5-PW Nippon Modus Pro 105R Wedges: Ping Glide 4.0 52/10, 56/14, 60/14 Nippon 115 Putter: EVNROLL ER 2.2 Ball: Wilson Triad
