Netflix: Full Swing

I watched 5 of the 8 episodes last night.  They did a very good job, and as someone said, they picked a perfect year to start the filming. Must watch if you're a golfer.  It's not edge of your seat like "F1, Drive" series, but it's worth a few hours.

I have gotten through all 8 episodes.  There are a few good episodes but mostly meh overall.  That said, I don’t generally enjoy this type of documentary type show.

Same here, Splatt. I had to make myself turn the tv off after ep. 1. Really great start to the series, can't wait for the second (and probably third ) episode this evening after the kids go to bed!

Watched the first five episodes last night. I thought it was absolutely great!!

Local note: I live in the small town area that Joel Dahmen and his caddie Geno Bonalli are from. I know Geno personally. Just to let you know what an absolute stick he is, he has the course record at the local club I used to belong to: 61. Sixty-one!!!

And Joel has the course record where I now belong: 61!!

Guess which episode is my favorite so far! Watching the rest today, before Tiger tees off.

Watched the first episode last night, it was OK but then that's kinda what I expected as I'm not a big fan of "reality TV." I am sure I will watch the other episodes when there's nothing else on and I'm in a TV watching mood (not as often as most people?)...

My favorite episode was the Rory episode (last)  He just seems genuine & honest about his take on everything from LIV to where the game is going.

My favorite episode as well.

Joel on Sunday of the US Open: “I told my dad that we’re pregnant this morning.”

Geno: “Awww, happy Father’s Day. What did he say?”

We watched 1-5.  I agree w/ those who say it's good but not great...worth the watch, though.  Interesting to see players chat and 'behind the scenes' stuff.  I'm not a big fan of reality TV - they over act b/c that's what happens when you have a camera following you around but seeing homes, family and history of players is a nice touch.  Nothing like F1 - I agree w/ that also haha.  Mostly it made me want to play on grass instead of our months of simulator playing here where it's cold all winter.

If they want an interesting show... they need to do Full Swing - MGS Forum Edition... follow a few members around on the course... not that would be good content!!  haha.  

I just started... first episode.. hope to make some ground through the rest of the season this weekend.  So far... it is what I expected it to be... and consistent with the comments above.  I hope it isn't an opportunity lost with a lackluster series... it could be GREAT.

I am through 2 episodes and give it a 3 out of 5, so far.  I am not a fan of reality TV; especially when the show feels scripted.

Did anyone else get the sense that maybe Brooks moved to LIV in part because he has created in his mind that he can’t compete at the highest level?

I agree.

In my opinion when you get to the point where you are not making cuts and not getting paid you have to treat it more like a job. If someone is going to give me extraordinary amounts of money to show up for work and have to work less for guaranteed money I’m in. Loyalty ends when the pay checks end and it is costing a few grand to play. It would be strictly a business decision for me.

I haven't watched, yet. However there are reports floating around there that he is second guessing his decision to leave the PGA Tour so that would suggest othewise.

I read an article on that last night... They alluded to the fact that is was a health limitation putting that doubt in his mind, but could be an excuse.  The article also said he is having second thoughts about his move and may be looking for a way back onto the tour.  Of course, I read it on the web... so it must ALL be true.  (believe at your own risk).

I've watched all of the episodes and whilst I thought it was OK (especially the Joel Dahmen episode), I don't think MGS forum members are the target audience.

 

My wife and MIL watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not knowing much about the tour and the game at the professional level, what was shown was much more novel to them. The extent of their golf knowledge prior:

• That's where husband goes on Saturdays for 5 hours.
• Hit ball into hole - fewest strokes wins.y
• Amateurs have handicaps - lower means they're a better player.
• Pretty, green course with pink flowers (Augusta)
• Tiger and Charlie Woods
• Phil Mickelson has a hot wife (from a Family Guy cutaway)

Agree with others this seems to be geared toward the more casual or non-golf fan. Constantly explaining what a "cut" is and DJ having to introduce himself kinda tells that. Also, have you ever noticed how many times Dan Hicks says "He's gonna have to make something happen here" during a broadcast?

Watched 1-6 thus far on my morning elliptical...

Yeah, its made for the casual, or new to golf fan. Nothing wrong with that.  But I've really enjoyed it for the behind the scenes insights.  Its worth the watch.   Yes, its out of order - but they aren't trying to tell the story of the whole year - they are trying to tell the story of what makes these players tick. 

My take aways thus far -

1 Netflix and the producers hit the jackpot getting Fitzpatrick for the whole season - how could they have known...  

2Joel needs to believe in himself, but whether he does or not, I'll always be a big fan.

3 I will now be rooting for Tony anytime he's in contention - I used to not care for him, and I was wrong, I really see him in a whole new light.  Need more guys like him.

4 In Ep3 the dead eyed looks and lack of ability to answer the Saudi human rights abuses at the LIV presser was bad, the fact that they chuckled at it was cringe worthy - that clip is worth watching over and over.

5 I really like the way they've focused each episode on two players and juxtapose styles, and methods.  Sometimes its a hero/villan (maybe that's too strong a word in some instances).

6 I hope it is successful enough to get a follow up season.  Looking forward to eps 7-8.

The Joel Dahman episode is exceptional.  From the relationship with his caddie to his background, it is all good stuff.  I now consider myself a fan.

I thought the first episode was pretty bland, but the next couple were a lot better. Dahman would fit in any gangsome at any course.

Biggest take away. Pat Perez cares a lot about other social Media and probably spends too much time memorizing their follower counts when he should be working on his golf game.

Joel Dahman episode was great and what a cool dude. I appreciate the self depricating humor, but man I feel like when he figures out how to flip the switch he's going to be dangerous. But that's something he'll have to figure out.

I am likely going to finish off the series this week. 

I can see the appeal and where it isn't suited for us, but given there isn't much in the way of golfing shows this has been a nice change and entertaining.

... You see what they want you to see and hear what they want you to hear. That said, hard to imagine editing was responsible for Koepka and his fiancé looking like they would have a hard time getting a GED and his head was about to explode. I cannot believe anyone can play golf successfully with all those thoughts in their head, especially the negative thoughts. Stark contrast to Scheffler smiling, having fun and winning. Obviously it is easier to have fun when winning but he seems like he would be the same guy when losing. As long as Koepka isn't winning LIV will be his home, but if manages to actually win again, I think he is gonna miss the PGA Tour causing more negative thoughts. It was a fascinating episode.

I have always enjoyed watching Brooks and I know the rep he gets or has, but I just loved watching him. It was a great episode and one that does stand out to me to show how draining it can be, even for those who were the best.

Unfortunately for Fowler until he wins a major, he will be viewed as an under achiever. Even after winning a Players. The majors are just the real metric for success.

I'm 2 episodes in & I'm enjoying it so far 

Justin Thomas is humanized throughout the fist episode; Mike Thomas is level-headed as a coach & father. Justin seems intimidated by Jordan Spieth (for no reason as they are both talented).

Brooks Koepka comes-across as a boorish a$$ with Jenna Sims being his attention-seeking wife. Scottie Scheffler's wife has much more class.

Well-produced show exposing the lives of players that desire to remain mostly-private
