As always, all thoughts welcome (unless you're here to advertise your Rhino Pills - you will be removed 😉 )

As usual, I'll start.

My wife and I have two incredible, funny, loud children 🙂 And for us, Two is Enough.

I've got a Vasectomy (capital-V) scheduled for early-March.  I met with the doc late last year, went over all the risks/rewards, etc., and it just made a lot of sense for our family.  My wife currently has an IUD, which while convenient and pretty easy, has a few side-effects that make little sense to deal with if I can just get the boys all tied off with little-to-no issues.

I'm 44 (45 in April), and we're thrilled with our family unit, so it just makes sense to call it.

After meeting the doc and feeling him out (and, cough cough, vice versa), and assuring myself he wasn't, in fact, an evil villain (I mean, it could happen, right?) - we're all engines go for my appointment in about a month.

   SnipDoctor.PNG(Not my doctor)

Anyway, other than having to buy a truly-ridiculous-looking garment for post-surgery  (image.png - yes, it's THIS silly-looking), there's really very little else to do but wait.  So, as is usually the case with me, I figured I'd post about it and find out if any of you have taken the plunge as well.

  Any words of advice?  Caution?

Naturally, my biggest concern is how long it'll be until I can play golf again - I'm fully aware that's probably not that big a concern in the grand scheme of things, but ... 🙂

So, it may be a big step, but in the immortal words of Mr. Brimley:

So I’d get that done soon. At 44 we had 3 teenaged children, 1 biological, 2 adopted. Plus a number of former foster children. A few of those came to us as pregnant teens. All had girls.

My wife would often say, “With God’s sense of humor H will give me my baby girl when I’m 40.”

Fast forward 22 years and she’s a 62 year old with a 21 year old daughter.

🙂  See above "Scheduled for early March" - it was scheduled for last week, actually, but we've got a vacation (our first real 'kids have kid-camp they can go to all day' vacation...we're very excited) coming next week, and just in case there were any issues, we pushed it to next month.  But yeah - neither of us has the energy to even entertain the idea of a newborn - god bless you both for getting through it with your sanity 😉

I did it. No big deal. Doc wanted to know if I minded a female intern watching the procedure. I looked at her and said, if you haven't seen one by now, I don't

know what to say...lol. Just followed the doc's advice after, and everything was just fine.

I had one scheduled (years ago) thought about it for days and days and the day of the surgery I called and canceled and haven't considered it again.

I’m a 20 year veteran. It was no big deal at all. Very important to follow directions and then some. Frozen peas will be your friend for the first day. Then no lifting. Not even groceries.

On a funny side. I get in the office and escorted to a room. I was told to undress from the waist down. Doc will be in in a minute. A few minutes later an absolutely gorgeous young woman walks in. We’re talking an 11 out of 10 long waves blond hair with bright blue eyes. She looks and said ditch the underware. We can’t do the procedure thru those. Hmm she’s not my doctor. Then she says here let me help you. My goodness, I never prayed so hard to not to, let’s say have a reaction. Seconds later the Doc comes in. Thank you Doc. I don’t even remember what he looked like and I met him before for at the consultation. A pinch from the needle, a tug, cut, knot, stitch and done.  They told me to stay awhile and relax. It was nothing, I got dressed immediately and walked into the hallway. Again there was my vision of beauty. I pretended to lose my balance and she rushed to grab me. I thanked her and said I was just kidding. To my surprise she said it you weren’t numb down there I would have kicked you. We both chucked and I was on my way. Minutes later I was at McDonalds having a Big Mac meal. Then home to play up the ordeal. Doc said I can’t lift the kids, or groceries for two months. So I lied a bit. It was probably 2 weeks. Didn’t even need the frozen peas. I just put them on my lap when the wife walked in the room and complained about the pain. There wasn’t any.

And by the way I didn’t have to wear that weird undergarment you included a photo of. Actually nothing except my own underwear.

Hilarious.

Yeah, the weird undies are a "just in case" there's lots of swelling, I guess, and since they're very cheap, figured it was worth the investment. Plus, who knows? Maybe they'll look good and I'll  start  wearing them on date nights 😜

Well it's been around 30 years for me and I am sure things have changed. They didn't have that ridiculous-looking garment for post-surgery back then. My wife told me soon after we had our third child, it's your time buddy. It was no big deal to me, just laying around with ice on the area for a day or so. If I remember correctly, had it done on a Friday and returned to work on Monday.

Just man up and have it done....

I got one 16 years ago next month, less than a month after my son was born.

Wasn't a big deal except I felt one get snipped, it didn't hurt as such but felt like it was up in my guts somewhere.

I too didn't need some weird contraption for afterwards. Done on Friday and sat around for the weekend with bags of frozen peas on my gonads.

I had mine 15 years ago, mine did not go smoothly.  They numbed me up and the doctor got started. After a few minutes he said we might need to move to the hospital so he can knock me out. I asked what the problem was and he said "I can't finish the procedure because you are all drawn up." I said "no sh!t, I know what you are doing and my balls are up aroung my throat!"  I guess while I was talking I relaxed enough that he was able to do what he needed to do and it was over quickly after that.  The nurse told my wife that I will have some bruising because of the difficulties the doctor had and she was not kidding. I was laid up for a week and when I say the size of a grapefruit, I am not exagerating.  I talked to my cousin a few months later and he said his doctor prescribed him a valium to take an hour before his appointment.  I can't help but think that my procedure might have gone a lot smoother if I'd had something to take the edge off ahead of time.  All that being said though, I do not regret it.  Our youngest is 22 and just about to finish college. We are so close to the finish line I can taste it!  I will say after all these years I can still smell the burning from when he cautorized the Vas.

Got the tiny snip 28 years ago after #4 arrived. We were hoping for another girl but I guess it was just not in the cards. My wife wanted a bigger family but I was totally done so took to the knife, tweezers and scissors! No problems other than when snipped, felt like they exploded for 2 min..... Thought I was going to toss cookies. After that felt fine. Still going strong!!!

35+ years ago for me.  Easy-Peasy (as long as you follow Dr.’s instructions afterward). Out of commission for 24 hours then back to work.  Didn’t play golf then so not sure how long clubs will be sidelined.  No funky sling either.  Cautionary note:  it may still take a little while before you are “clear” — get your samples checked!

I had the procedure done approximately 28 years ago after the birth of our 3rd child.  The doctor had to dig around a bit on one side, because the tube that needed snipping was underneath the testicle.  It felt like he was pulling my eyes out from the inside.  Lots of swelling and bruising.  The worst part was laying on display in the doctor's office in front of the doctor and a nurse.  Also, it was really cold in there!

Woof - the digging around I can do without, but .... worth it 🙂 I honestly would have had it done after our 2nd was born, but with the pandemic, and the "oh my god we can't leave the house" panic (especially with a newborn), we put it off until now.  Happy to do my part and make her life even just a LITTLE easier.  Even if my eyes get pulled out of my head 😉

I had it done about 20 years ago, maybe a little less. It really wasn't that big of a deal for me - procedure on a Friday, lay around with frozen pees on my sack over the weekend and I felt fine come Monday. The only downside was I felt well enough that I went and played softball Tuesday evening (yes I was wearing a jock strap). That was a mistake. It felt like I got kicked in the nads for the next few days.

Done and done! In and out inside of an hour - currently at home, ice pack applied, and regaling my wife with tales of how HORRIBLE the procedure was (cough cough) and she's heating me up a slice of pizza right now.

I'm not saying I'm milking it, but...I might be a little. 😜

Thanks for all the advice/words of wisdom - procedure was pretty easy, and I drove myself home, no problem.

Hooray for relatively-painless science!

Nice! Weirdest part was the "normalcy" of the procedure for everyone who wasn't me: the nurse, iodine-ing everything, the doctor cracking jokes the whole time while listening to 80s rock, the random guy  popping his head into the room to say "have a good weekend" with my junk on full display (I made sure to say "Thanks! You too!" just to make myself laugh at the absurdity).

If you can do it later on a Friday of a basketball-filled weekend, you may get to spend all of Saturday watching some good games 😉 (Maybe Masters weekend?)

This is the time that the most amount of vasectomies are done because of March madness. No joke.

Yep milk it---- Dont do what I did---- I was a volunteer firefighter at the time---- 6 hrs after the surgery I was in what the Professional Firefighters on here call a good old snot slinging barn fire. Man my nads swole up big as a basketball. But I did not tear the stiches. Waited 2 days for that. Was not supposed to be in a truck but I did anyhow. Ran a 100 mile trip in a leaf spring single axle no air seat GMC. Yep busted them loose. Man the Doc chewed my butt. But then again I was always hardheaded.
