Hi all! Just starting to kick the tires as the season is more or less upon us. I've been getting emails from courses that are going to open in the next week or so.

Anyway, who is interested in an April meetup? I know conditions can be sketchy cause of rain, so if no one is up for it, we can just plan on May and go from there.

I'm gearing up for an April start, so I'm in.

I'm only 3hrs and change up the east end of L Erie, depending on where and when it would be a good way to get the season going as my neck of the woods tends to be at least a couple weeks behind with the downwind effects of the colder lake delaying the season a bit.

I played 9 today on an extraordinary 70 degree day March 1.  April should be in the 80's, right?  Lets go!

Ok so I'm just going to throw out 3 courses and let's see who is interested and where. Links to the course websites too

Grey Hawk, Lagrange (Cleveland West) - https://www.greyhawkgolf.com/

Raintree, Uniontown (Akron/Canton) - https://www.golfraintree.com/

Royal American, Galena (Columbus North) - http://www.royalamericanlinks.com/

Grey Hawk is the closest to me and I play it at least once or twice a year, it's a really fun golf course.

Raintree is one of my absolute favorite courses in NE Ohio.

Royal American is a heathland style course. It's not links by definition because it's not built on the coast. If it looks like a links course, but sits inland, it's called a Heathland course.

Does anyone in the Columbus area have info on Royal? Was this a good pick?

I played Royal American last fall.  It's a nice track, I thought in decent shape but not extraordinary.  It has had some negative reviews in the past years but signs are it's picking up (new owners as of this year).  I certainly enjoyed playing there.

If it's on the short list, for a short time you can get 'punch tickets' that drop the cost a bit.  I could get those, and would make the round less than $50.

Royal is a decent course.  Last year the bunkers weren’t in the best shape, but they were working on them.  Denison golf course is a Donald Ross and it’s always in great shape.  Fast greens.

Well that's not a concern, I don't plan to be in any of them 😜😎

Getting back to this, my vote is Raintree, but any of the three will work.

That good with me, and I know there's several other spies in the Akron/Canton area, so it wouldn't be too far a drive for quite a few of us. It's one of my favorite courses, though I haven't had a chance to play it since Akron took it over and it became a muni. The architect is Brian Huntley, and he's designed probably a dozen courses in NE Ohio and every one I've gone to is a blast to play.

It was the City of Green, not Akron, but from what I've heard, they're doing a really good job of running and maintaining the course.

Oh ok, well Green probably has more money to spend on golf. As long as they keep it a course, and it was always in good shape when I played it before.

Oh ok.  A friend of mine always talks about how he’d like to play it.  We’re in Newark.

Sleepy Hollow is Brecksville, Ohio. It's one you want to play in the summer and it's greens will kick your @$$. It's between me and the Akron spies, about 20 min drive for either of us. I'd love to do one there and/or Manakiki as well because they were both named as top 15 munis in the US last year.

On another note, I saw Golf.com released their 'best of public' courses for each state. Of course 3 of the spots went to Firestone, which is only public in the broadest sense of the word 🙄. And the others are the same top courses they've been listing for 15 years (Virtues, Sleepy, Stonelick, Fowlers).

Newark, seems like there's at lot of good places North and East of Columbus. I'll ask you if I think of any over the summer.

It's been years since I played Raintree, but I would probably pick Grey Hawk. Obviously good with whatever, but I really liked Grey Hawk. Might be a different story if I had been playing my own ball that day.

That's the rumor and especially now that The Vineyard has fallen back a bit(still a great course, just not kept in as pristine a condition as it once was).

My little hometown of Batavia has some damn good(and pricey lol) golf with Stonelick and Elk's Run...

I'd love to play if you guys play around Cincinnati. I played Stonelick Hills yesterday (in the 30-40mph wind) and Blue Ash GC today. Elks Run is nice as well.
