GolfSpy_APH
Many of us use the general headcovers that come with our clubs, but also there are many that have custom or aftermarket headcovers. I fall into the later and still have the stock headcovers, but use the my others. I just received a new one and have to decide whether it makes the main bag or goes to the backup bag. So what do you have? Are they MGS? Another company or team? Stock? Let us know and even better share some photos! Popular Post RollingGreens
Oh man do I love this topic, I was fortunate enough that Santa clause couldn’t figure out what to get! So he got me some new headcovers, I always loved these since they made their appearance at the Ryder cup! I know it’s not the exact set but it’s close enough for me. I also have a driver cover from Philadelphia cricket club that has a special place in my collection because of living there for a few years . cnosil
I am pretty much a stock headcover person but I have switched to using the most recent MGS driver and putter cover. I guess the only reason is that the MGS logo'd stuff has meaning to me. I look at aftermarket headcovers and while they are nice, nothing really stands out as being special. Popular Post Golf2Much
For the last 20 years or so, I've used a Daphine or similar driver headcover that corresponded with the dog my wife and I had at the time. The first two were yellow labs (actual yellow lab and a husky/shepherd mix that looked like a lab) and the last two have been beagles. Lately the beagle cover is getting pretty beat up. It's missing one eye, the other looks like it has really bad cataracts, and its fur is all worn. Since the beagle headcover is hard to find, I'm about to switch to Rory's Saint Bernard headcover. If you look at it through the one eyed, cataract ridden eye of it's predecessor, it looks just like a beagle! berkeleybob, GolfSpy_SHARK, EasyPutter and 7 others 10 Quote Ping G430 Max driver 10.5 degrees with an Alta Quick45 gram senior shaft Callaway Epic 3 wood, Project X Evenflow Green 45 gram senior shaft Callaway GBB Epic Heavenwood, with a Mitsubishi Diamana 50 gram senior shaft Ping G 20.5 degree 7 wood, with a stock Alta 65 gram senior shaft Ping G 26 degree hybrid, stock Alta 65 gram senior shaft Callaway Paradym X irons, 7-AW with Aldila Ascent Blue 50 graphite shafts Edison wedges: 50, 55 and 60 degree, KBS Tour Graphite A flex shafts Putters: L.A.B. Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
So have MGS headcover for my driver. My 3 wood is stock (SIM) and my putter cover is a shark. Name is Mark, have said it in other threads before but several nieces and nephews call me "uncle shark" sometimes "auntie shark" when their feeling brave (they think its hilarious so I allow it). @GolfSpy_BOSfound this headcover on ebay and I bought it 30 seconds later. CarlH
My driver cover, which spends more time in the cart basket than on the driver, is a white MGS cover. My 2 FW and my hybrid are the stock covers .... but have been looking at after market covers the last 2 days. My putter cover on my Odyssey is also a white MGS mallet cover, but on my newer L.A.B. putter, it's the stock cover (and likely will remain so, given the unique size of this putter!). Popular Post berkeleybob
After moving abroad, I thought I’d get a few head covers to remind me of the old country. The putter and 3-wood covers, mark my time split in the Bay Area between San Francisco and Oakland. I got my driver cover last year when the Lions were 3-13-1. I grew up rooting for them and thought it was time to pride up. So, there ya go—my three favorite places I’ve lived. EasyPutter
Not all the headcovers but the ones that are currently "in the bag" except the (smaller) putter headcover that has been in retirement since L.A.B. DF2.1 arrived. The Dormie & of the Stick & Hack Club had a year ride in the putter well when it was a sale item and I got one of my fabulous discounts where that mallet cover, jacket, and mug was the regular price of the cover alone. The L.A.B. Cover was a must have as we testers were encouraged to order "whatever you want" and I'm glad I did order it because I have not seen another mallet cover that would adequately do the job, the Dormie cover about an inch too small in all 3 dimensions. Driver / hybrids / ball retriever (yes it's disguised!) covers were all gifted from participation in the PGA HOPE program, one at a time. The American Flag headcovers are regularly presented to participants at some point in a 6 or 8 session class. I have not missed one since 2018 with the Western NY PGA Section that is starting it's 11 year of the HOPE program. The PGA HOPE #1 headcover was given to me last month by the newest Veteran PGA HOPE Ambassador. In my photo my golf bag moves from where it is here in my garage to the vehicle when there is something golf to go to, otherwise it is here with all the golf gear that will be in my vehicle when the season starts and remain in the vehicle until the season ends. COME ON SEASON!!! Indoor golf is currently at Golf Dojo on Tuesday nights in Williamsville NY and next Saturday in the Rochester begins 6 weeks at Wildwood CC in Rush NY, both using simulators with PGA Pros as guides on the sides making the sessions all about Veterans getting together with golf as the reason. My clubs would have a non-stock headcover on them as soon as I found one that has meaning associated with it regardless of club type. Stock headcovers of brand type are easily replaced in my bag as I don't care to extend free advertising for any company when I had to pay for the thing that is garishly branded. That said, if a company has a promotional event or extends ambassadorship or special designation where something is supplied, then that would be a different matter to consider, but has not happened yet for just about anything. Except MGS testing opportunities and those brands are something I promote thank you very much! Otherwise the purchased branded items are easily passed along to someone with a naked club Rob W. and berkeleybob 2 Quote Derek Verified Hack, ~21 handicap Golf for exercise and peace of mind. |> Big Dogs: First Strike Rattlesnake (10), TeelessTM (13), Tommy Armour TA1 3h (19), Ginty Trouble Club (29) |> Blades: First StrikeTM DeliveranceTM 4(23) 5(26) 6(29) 7(33) 8(37) 9(41) P(45) |> Wedges: Worx (55) Lovett (59) |> Flatstick: L.A.B. bellken
Most of my headcovers are the stock oem headcovers. The newer materials don't seem to be very durable, so, I will mix in some older headcovers I have. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to what I do, but, some of it relates to the fact that I have 6 head covers in my golf bag. I like head covers that are easy on and off, fairly compact, and, easy to keep clean (.ie don't show too much dirt). Tom the Golf Nut
I mostly stick with stock head covers (for now). But here is the background on two of them that are not stock. Back in September 2021 I was roasted by Yellow Ball in the "Yellow Ball Roast's" thread. My kids asked what I was laughing about and then I made the mistake of letting them read the post. So, for Christmas this was one of my presents from them. Keep in mind that my kids aren't kids they were 17 and 19 at the time. They knew what they were doing to me! But now I look at it every round. It drives me to be happy and play well because you never know who is watching. The putter head cover changed because the stock one was worn out and getting holes in it. I picked up this one because it reminded me of my youth when I had something very similar on the back of my biker leathers. The Ping driver was replaced by a Titleist TSi 1 but that's the only difference. Still a stock head cover. berkeleybob
5 hours ago, GolfSpy_APH said: Are you more likely to have a non stock headcover for your putter? Driver? or another club? I usually opt for non-stock head covers. The first time I bought hybrids they didn’t come with stock covers, so I just got a couple of club gloves. They are actually pretty good and have lasted a good while. A few years back, my bag of clubs were exposed to a house fire, and the insurance folks offered to take out the smoke smell out of it—bad idea. The chemical process weakened anything made of plastic textile, including the bag and the pleather head covers. Hence, the new covers above. I still have OEM covers in storage, but I’m not likely to use them. If I did, I’d feel like a walking billboard. Popular Post saz0418
I colorized this iconic pen and ink image from Ben Hogan's Five Lessons - The Modern Fundamentals book. Then, I ordered online from a place that will put any picture you want on a head-cover. The back is like a leather fabric and the front (print side) is a woven cloth. I have the same image in miniature on my "golf cards" - the cards with my information on them that I carry for when I meet someone new that I want to play with, again. I would probably make this my first tattoo, as well... if I could convince myself that I *really* want a tattoo. But I love the head cover and get a few compliments when other players notice. Oudefart
Like many of you, have been a Seamus Golf fan for years, still am. I have an entire set for backup bag. However, about a year and a half ago, I saw somewhere online a pro's bag with Grateful Dead covers. Had to have them. It took me about 2 wks to track it all down, but found out they were on DJ Trahan's bag and were made by Eliott Bag Co. in Charleston. I got in touch directly with owner Scott Halter, a great guy to work with. I asked if I could custom design my head covers. "If I can digitize it, I can make". They are great quality leather, you can choose your inside color. Very competitively reasonable price in the "Head Cover" game. Give him a shout and let him know you saw it on MGS. Dules
No pix to share but I favor the knit covers for an ole school look. I also have this "thing" about using OEM covers as it advertises your clubs in the bag for that guy who may be looking for a 5 finger discount at the club corral. had it happen & seen it done & with drivers upwards of $600 someone walking away with a driver is not good! The best OEM head cover ever were the Cleveland barrel head cover, so easy to pull on & off. Some head covers are a wrestling match. A shout out to PXG covers which are also great with the magnet & pretty easy/off. Just advertising PXG, even if it's not PXG club under the hood, goes back to my fears of being ripped off at the cart corral or while traveling. Rob W.
Putter cover is a Banksy pulp fiction work which was a xmas gift from the kids to replace the generic OEM cover. They know how much I like the movie and though it was cool (I also have the "Bad Mother F***er" wallet from them). The driver cover is a BFM (Bill F***ing Murray) from the Chivery. I picked it up on clearance to avoid shipping charges while shopping for funny t-shirts a few years back. It's become pretty rare, and I've fielded some serious $$ unsolicited offers for it on the course. Finally the 3W is a daphne's panda which the kids liked. Hybrid cover is a replacement for the Cleveland Mashie sock that wasn't built to last 12 years. It's my 200 yard club and even though I try to replace it every season, it finds its way back into the bag. https://www.scottreadmanconcepts.co.uk/product/banksy-pulp-fiction-putter-covers/ berkeleybob, G56788, IndyBonzo and 2 others 5 Quote ROGUE ST MAX 9* - Mitsubishi TENSEI AV White 65 Graphite stiff GBB Epic Pro Tour 15* - Matrix Radix HD 7 stiff Cleveland Mashie 20.5* - Miyazaki 5G Stiff PXG O211 4-G - Steelfiber I95 Stiff Callaway Mac Daddy CB 54* & 58* - KBS shafts. ChuckZ
I like to mix mine up every now and then. My favorite is the Links and Kings (FJ USA RED/WHITE/BLUE) which I will usually go with the Titleist Single Red Star Blue Fairway, White Titleist Red X Hybrid and R/W/B Diamond Folds of Honor Hybrid. Usually use the White Eagle putter headcover from the collection from Pebble Beach. The tan one is from our course, Charleston Municipal, no. 19 rated muni is the US. Image 1 for drivers, 2 fairways, 3 hybrids, 4 putters and 5 stock headcovers that came with my equipment that I currently game. It is so easy to go with R/W/B or black combinations. A number of these have significant meaning, gifts from special friends. In years past I had a nice collection of puppets as headcovers but gave them to my granddaughters to play with when they were small. Had a Kermit Frog, Odie Dog and a Giraffe. Think I bought them at Hallmark. hey got a lot of enjoyment out of them. Found some from the Masters and the US Open that date back into the 90s in my case of collectables. Old style and no longer use them.
