Good morning spy's... I just posted this on the AT&T thread and enjoyed it so much I thought I would post it here as well lol... Have a great day everyone...

 

Now to answer some of your question, all the "noise" about smaller fields, larger purse, 2 courses, is just fodder for speculation, is it right is it wrong, opinions are rambid. 

I posed a question to the forum a few months ago, "do you watch televised golf for entertainment or to learn golf tips from the best in the world" (maybe not exactly like that but kindof lol)

In this case I could care less about the noise, the chance to watch 80 of the best 100 in the world in one spot on an iconic golf course is all I want to do. 

Today I have DP World tour option, PGA tour option, and LIV option, and women's amateur golf,  I think that pretty well covers all the players I would like to watch.

I say golf is in a pretty great spot, lots of access.

So whatever your reason to watch golf on television, it is only February and you have tons of choices, enjoy...

Unless spending the money on a fitting is cost prohibitive, get a full bag fitting. I was first fitted by Club Champions after finishing rehab after my second shoulder surgery. My swing was different and I just sprayed balls around. I knew the shafts on my stock M4 irons were all over the place. Some too stiff some too whippy, and the driver shaft was too whippy.  I went in with a budget, an open mind, and the understanding that brand loyalty is stupid when it comes to results. I came out with Tour Edge High Launch 4 full set of hybrids. Cheapest heads they bult clubs with, and the best most consistent irons I hit. The shafts were spendy though. 

Fast forward to last year. At no additional cost I did another complete refit. 

If all you are looking for is information, be sure you tell the guy fitting you before you start, and that you expect to walk out with your specs when you leave. The free fitting guy may not spend the time with you that you need for discovery and may not have the sophisticated launch monitor set up to give you useful data. Finally the free guy most likely will not have the shaft selection wide enough to allow you to see a difference in your results. 

To me a sheet of base numbers are useless without a comparison set of numbers that show measurable increases in accuracy. Accuracy, not spin rates, not club head speed, not launch angle, or maximum arc height. Accuracy. The other stuff is good for the guys who post here who have low single digit handicaps and need their range finders because they know that at 92 yards a 3/4 swing with their lob wedge is nuts on at that distance and at 94 yards a sand wedge is a better choice.  They need to know spin rates and arc height because they are things they can control. 

Ultimately, at a 15 handicap, correct me if I am wrong, You are looking for clubs that will let you hit the ball long, consistent, and in the fairway. With your irons you want clubs that at the minimum allow you to aim at the middle of the green and actually hit the middle of the green.  My handicap came in today and I am a 13.3 and accuracy using my regular swing is all I want in a set of clubs.

Oof, I feel your pain on this one. Not because someone put a sky mark on my driver, but because with one bad swing early last year and a dirty range ball, I put a NASTY one on my TSi3. I've got a fitting scheduled for the Ai Smoke next week Friday, and while I am down there I am going to ask the owner of the shop where the fitting is held if he knows anyone locally or in the area that does refinishing. I know there are some out there you can ship the heads out to and have it corrected, but I'd rather be able to just take it somewhere locally if possible. 

All year I had to tell myself "it doesn't affect performance, it doesn't affect performance" but still hate looking at it

Had it less than a week and same thing. I left as a reminder, but it sure does bother the crap out of me all these years later

Let me know what you find out. I'll be interested in doing something. Otherwise I'll be saying the same thing as you..."it doesn't affect performance, it doesn't affect performance" hahaha

Thankfully the paint on top has minimal damage and I think I could use some polish and a microfiber cloth to get it out. So maybe...maybe...maybe... I wouldn't notice it at address.

I fixed one of my golf buddies sky marks on the top of his 5 wood with car paint polish and a microfiber cloth. It worked great and looked brand new afterwards. Depending on how deep the scratches are, you could probably do the same thing. 

Or you can leave it as a reminder of a time when the ball flew high and straight. haha

Well, chilly but I shot an 86. Before we do any congratulatory replies, let me say this first. If it were dryer I’d probably have shot a 96. I did have a nice chip in birdie on the 17th hole. In total I had three birdies. I will say I learned to take more club with me, albeit that was on the 15th hole when I figured that out. Who knew cooler temps make the ball fly shorter…. I do need to practice putting more to get more consistent on the course I played since it is going to be my go to course now.

Kind of a last minute decision, but they were running some room specials so we thought we'd surprise them with a little getaway. Wisconsin Dells is only about 15 minutes from home, so it's an easy little jump to make on short notice.

Also cannot recall if I ever mentioned it, but our Mexico trip in March is CONFIRMED and I cannot wait for that! We will be going March 11-16, so will be a nice little break right before the weather hopefully starts to turn nicer here at home and I come back to almost golf weather .

It's a fun spot and really good pools/slides for littles! Should be a great time and a fun surprise! If you ever make it to the Dells for one of the hotel/waterparks (i.e. just put it in the vacation plans now ) I'll host you for a round at my home course!

I’m turning it over to my 12 year old this year he gets it with the mark. The matching 3 wood is clean. He’s got to pay his dues with the old clubs

Pineapple Express just rolled through and golf was on hold for a couple of days. There is another one forecast for the middle of next week so we'll see how much golf I get in.

Just posting an afternoon update. Even if I’m not selected to test the QI10 Max I’m gonna find a way to lock one down! Fitting was amazing. The Pro helped my fitter and gave me a few tips as well and on my last swing that what I got. I normally can get a roll out of about 280-285 once in a while 290. I will say even on the miss hits I was still able to carry 260’s and get a rollout to 280! I really like the Max! Now convincing my darling wife hmm

Reading what you said about your driver it sound like you could have a shaft that does not match your swing speed.

So you have some options then. Get fitted by someone who can swap shafts until you get the ball flight you want. 

Deal with your driver as is and try to get your swing to change and be consistent. Very hard to do if you have a shaft stiffness issue.

Check your 3 wood. If you swing that with no issue you could just try to replace your driver shaft with that same shaft. That usually works. 

Get your numbers and swap shafts with one that may match what you need. 

I did the swap shafts thing a number of years ago. Bought 2 and 3 year old shafts on Ebay for pennies on the dollar and had a lot of fun playing with stiffness and shaft lengths. I played a all out grip it rip it type game and never really found a shaft that was like the one in my driver now, essentially perfect for my swing.  I got close, then broke the weld on the driver sole/face interface, and gave that experiment up.

More drama than needed to happen (GF's bank put a fraud alert on her card when the purchase of the net and mat went through, and she had to spend a half hour on the phone to resolve that), but the garage sim has now been ordered. Net/mat are on back order and will be shipped in about two weeks; rest of it should arrive while I'm on my next road trip for work.

After a previous job went away, I spent a few months working as a fraud prevention agent for a major national bank, so I understand what happened. Something about her purchase triggered an anti-fraud algorithm. I got cussed out many Friday nights when inebriated partiers triggered our algorithm at their local watering hole, or trying to get an Uber to get home. Or New Year's Eve; I got a 45-minute tongue lashing that night, which could have been much shorter if he had just given me the information I needed instead of dropping F-bombs.

Addendum: Almost everything has been ordered. I just realized Awesome Golf wasn't included; all reports are that the AG driving range feature is more accurate than Garmin's own version. I'll cough up that cash myself.

Addendum #2: Garmin just notified me that my monitor has already shipped. Since the net will be delayed a couple of weeks, I suspect my first test of the new R10 will be outdoors at the local range. Which is probably good; I can compare the data with what I see with my eyeballs. Can't do that indoors.

Great observations.  Both shafts are "stiff", but different manufacturers.  Ones UST, the other is Ventus.

Stock 3w offering vs the rando I bought.  The Helium shaft is very whippy. Quite a soft tip I think.  Either way im gonna enjoy this trying out a new driver anyway.  Wont buy a new driver but my swing speed is starting to creep into the low triple digits now.  Would be fun to snag a ventus shaft off ebay or what not with a TM adaptor on it.  But ill reserve doing anything drastic for now.

Gotta love this game.

Hmm. I've looked at the Stack but with the money I just spent on the garage sim (OK, GF's money), I don't think another $350 would go over well at Casa ILM. 

Current swing speed as measured by the Trackman at Golf Galaxy last week was 77. It probably wasn't much over 80 when I was 19. I do kind of wish that my first teacher had instilled an "attack the ball and we'll fix the rest later" attitude.

IMO - if someone were to do that, consider asking if it can be spread out over, say, two sessions.

A fitting for one type of club is a lotta work .. going through the whole bag is a LOTTA hitting!!

In any event do always bring your full bag to any fitting - never know when the fitter may offer some extra insights.

Great improvement! Good ad for the stack system! Since your max is up about 15%, I’d be curious to see how much your regular on course swing has gone up. Nice work so far @skraeling!

That is an absolute must. Bring the whole bag. Make noises like you might need them to build you a new set, but...Then pull out your other clubs and test them with their equipment. Takes a while but it is very enlightening. And yes set the fitting up for 3 sessions. Irons, woods, and wedges. Might as well get your moneys worth!
