tdroma98
You name some hidden gems @GaryF!! I loved Wekiva Golf Club, a hidden gem when Mr. Bowman owned & operated. He kept that course well maintained. Wekiva is now owned by Seminole County. Timacuan is now private again. A bit challenging. It was briefly opened to the public for a couple of years. Mike Bender - Bender Academy had moved to Magnolia Plantation (which is closed to golf), taking his stable of students, including Zack Johnson. Alaqua has also gone private - Alaqua Lakes CC and in very good shape. Senior qualifiers in Central Florida, are often held at Alaqua Lakes, love the course, it's a fun course & challenging. Deer Run (the site of my first hole-in-one) is now closed . Sold to a developer, however Seminole County has since purchased because of the water. Back in the late 80's, I used to cut out of work early, on appointments of course - lol, meet some friends to play Deer Run. You have a good memory! Forest Lake! Played that course back in June. The course was in pretty good shape, fun layout. The growth in that area of West Orlando, is incredible. But no other courses in Ocoee have been built. If you remember Stoneybrook West, they had closed & now reopening, the HOA purchased the course back. By driving SR 429 you can get to three courses from Forest Lake: Stoneybrook West & both Orange County National Courses within 10 minutes. New Years Day at the Citrus Bowl is crazy! Typical morning routine of magic potions (supplements), a Stack workout, and gym time, now followed by 10 minutes in the cold plunge. The cold plunge is kind of new but I’m enjoying it so far. The one thing it does mean is that I’m now a home workout guy so I can get in the plunge pod right after a workout. Popular Post Dead Solid Bogey
Friday, time to break out the clubs, my fellow golf felons…. Had a relaxing and decompressing time on the course on Thursday. Dispatched quite a few golf balls to the hereafter… including sending some off with a Viking funeral ( sans the fire or boat part ) sent others off on their very own Lewis & Clark like expedition. Finally had a meeting last night about the long gossiped about critter and vermin invasion of the course. Short version is that the exotic ranch next to the course had a massive game containment fence failure.. This allowed an unspecified number of animals to illegally migrate from the ranch. The vast majority of the animals are considered to be harmless to semi-harmless with a couple to be very, oh so very wary of. Unfortunately evidence has been found of the demise ( no body found ) of one of animals on the course. This was one of the reasons for the short term prohibition of singles play. Anyway, this will make for some interesting changing and adding to the local rules of “ relief from hazards “ like those used in places like Alaska. Not meaning to offend but thought I would include the evidence of the probable demise of the creature I mentioned earlier…. So my friends, it is very possible that I am looking at a Wild Weekend in the offing. Wild wife at the house and Wildlife on the golf course. I ‘ll take my chances with the Wildlife on the course. It’s only my Thursday since I get to work a full day tomorrow but, the kid doesn’t have any soccer scheduled so I’m letting this one slide. I’m happy for all of you that get a full weekend though! My wife and I went and browsed the local golf store and Dick’s yesterday to look for some beginner clubs that she might be interested in but, nothing tickled her fancy. I decided that I’ll just regrip the clubs that I started with before I got way too deep into golf I have a set of Square Two Rave II irons with senior flex graphite shafts that should fit the bill. I regripped the 6-PW with Lamkin Crossline grips last night and she is planning on joining me at the range this afternoon/evening to give them a try. We shall see. Have a Great Day Everyone! Hit'em straight! I really think I need to give one of those swing speed increaser systems a go. I could probably benefit from it as I do have a somewhat on the slower side (I feel like) speed. Popular Post DoubleBogeyDad
Morning Spies! Have the day off and getting out to one of my favorites in the area. All the rain moved out, should be a great fall day in Minnesota. At that time of year where we don't know how many more rounds we'll get in these parts. xOldBenKenobiX, RockerFCC, cksurfdude and 8 others 11 Quote Dr: Stealth 10.5° Woods: M4 - 3W 15°, 5W 18° 4i-PW: MacGregor MT86 OS 50.08F/54.10S/60.08M: Pu: Ketsch Counter Balance Ball: MTB Prime Pushcart: 4.0 Rangefinder: Bushnell Tour V6 Shift Other:
Popular Post Jim Shaw
Good morning all... Had a good round at my home course yesterday, shot 70. My fitting on tuesday made me come away with confidence in my iron play and it showed today for sure, basically I am really easy to fit because my swing is pretty consistent, with my 7 iron my swing speed is about 81 mph and my ball speed around 105. every club I tried my swing and ball speed was close to the same. I will stay with my Takomo’s with the 100gram KBS stiff light shafts, just adjust the lofts a bit more. The graphite MMT 105 gram shafts seem to be good but they are 91$ each so a little pricey and only add 2 yards or so to my carry distance. I think my real takeaway from the fitting is just seeing the consistent results from my good strikes. The fitting centre have those Axiom shafts in stock, they are built for low, mid and long irons so different shafts for the different clubs, seems like (mixed) sets are the big thing right now, Titleist is promoting that. Popular Post fixyurdivot
Top of the pot spies . Just finishing up cup #2 and then heading down to the Sonoran trail with River for his walk/run. We have a huge grass area that he can fly around on and spend some lab energy. No golf today. We're having the house painted next week, so we'll be trimming some shrubs and taking down wall art in prep for that. Found out yesterday that when the Bushnell Pro Xe battery goes kaput, it goes kaput. Maybe I missed the low batt warning but, even though the lights were still on, it would not read distance. Went to our on property CVS for a CR2 battery... $22.99 for one Duracell...WHAT??? Checked other sources on-line and Ace had a Duracell 2-pack for $15. Still seems crazy high for a battery but we now live in crazy times. Have a great Friday and weekend everyone! Popular Post Swood1994
Happy Friday folks! Work from home day for me. I started it out with an early morning walk with the baby and the dog while the wife caught up on some sleep. Coffee is going down smooth. And work should be fairly straightforward today. Popular Post MattWillGolf
Good morning Spies, Happy Friday! One cuppa down. Made protein blueberry pancakes for my wife and me. She is off to an open water swim in Lake Ontario. I on the other hand will walk the dog and go for a run. I played 15 holes yesterday morning. It's about the load limit on my poorly designed feet. Things were really clicking for a change which included, according to my GPS (I even used my phone's calculator to do the math. ) a 253-yard drive, straight down the middle, on my final hole. I am also really pleased with my Vokey SM9 sand wedge. It is performing well in all conditions. I did have to make some adjustments in the traps though. They have rebuilt a number of traps on my home course, for the better. They have gone from very firm to nice and fluffy. Since I was in most of them on the front 9, I had plenty of practice. If golf is in your plans today, have fun. My game has seen more improvement since I gave up keeping score and concentrating on enjoyment. Oh maybe some swing changes. The biggest being, my finally grasping the concept of lag. I saw a video short by Kerry Maher Golf on Instagram. It really resonated with me. Wishing all a wonderful day!
