Happy Super Sunday everyone!

What is everyone thinking? Scottie hold on? Rahm make a charge? I love seeing Rickie stringing together a good tournament too.

so far it’s been a really good “kickoff” to golf in 2023.  (I know it’s not the first event, but it feels like the first real event of 2023 to me)

I don't believe they will ever capture the same feel or follow as a major, but if they can capture even 10 percent of that it will make for a much better follow and watch.

SWMBO even watched it with me for awhile.  She couldn’t believe 16th hole.

Watching the replay again this morning and the on course interviews don't really do much for me.   Tom Kim was probably one of the best choices but I would rather listen to player/caddie interactions.    When they show Kim and his caddie the interactions are just great TV in my opinion.

I was just watching the replay too.  I like the on-course interview... the only thing I would change is not having the interview done from the booth... like the DPW - having a 1 on 1 conversation walking between holes, or down the fairway is a good approach rather than talking to the guy in your ear.  But I also agree, more mic's on the player/caddy conversations would be a great thing too.

I have mixed feelings on the new PGA tour (minus the Liv guys). On one hand guys like Bryson and Cameron Smith are missed. On the other, it is kind of cool to see guys like Zack Johnson, Ricky Fowler and Keegan Bradley to add some life to their careers.

I miss Cam Smith, DJ & HV III other than that not so much.  I probably missed a player or 2 on my short list.

Rickie!!!   I'm always pulling for him.  Imagine all the new commercials from him if/when he wins again!!!   "RELOAD"

I don't think anyone will catch Scheffler but What A Leaderboard!!  It will be a fun Sunday for sure.  Oh... and isn't there some other sporting event today too???   Lower profile than the WM, but I seem to recall hearing something about it.

I was looking at the interview with Kim as a good start to hopefully a weekly practice.

Would love to see the Player/Caddie discussions, they are great to listen to and some may even help some players getting more interest.

I didn't get to see it, we were out car shopping.

I imagine this stems from the Homa interview that was epic a couple weeks ago.  I would agree they need a more personal touch with on course person like Colt Knost or someone like that. Caddie player talk is awesome to hear,

I keep a close eye on the LPGA tour as their average yardages they hit their clubs is closer to mine numbers, and of course their swings are spectacular... Our Canadian, Brooke Henderson, just changed her entire bag to Taylor Made, I checker the clubs out and they will be the first thing I try when I get fitted in the fall. Nelly Korda changed as well, Brooke to the 790.s and Nelly to the 770's, I will test them both although I think the 790's are a bit more of a helpers club.

My neighbor and I took advantage of the Thunderbirds free tickets for veterans and went to Friday's round.  Having watched the event on TV over the years and listening to comments from friends who have attended, going to this event was never high on my list. But, what the heck, free tickets that included a lunch and two beers did the trick. Coming out of the valet parking lot, Brendan Chamblee walked right past us.  He was wearing blue jeans and carrying his sky blue sports jacket on a hanger. We said hello and I kidded that we now know how those various blazers get to location.  He chuckled and wished us a great day.

Straight out, TPC Scottsdale is a very cool layout and definitely the best venue for viewing an event.  Not only do they have gobs of grandstand (both open and purchased/private) seating, but access around the tees, fairways, and greens, wide open.  The place was pretty packed but not to the point that you couldn't find spots to get clear views of groups. Naturally, the Scheffler, Rahm, Spieth groups drew clusters, but once they made their way down the fairway, with throngs in tow, that jammed feeling went away.

We stopped to watch these no-names field fillers tee off at #1.WM.jpg.20e7142e2516968b11cd5a4b1eef205a.jpg

Got to see one of my personal favorites... who is it?

wm3.jpg.bc24f984ac4364cfbfa9691c6d61e0ab.jpg

Also listened to Spieth & Greller discuss the approach into #1.  Jordan absolutely chatters a lot about the shot.... Greller must have the patience of Jobe 😆.

Looking down #10.  Watched Jason Day obliterate a ball with a 3 wood that went into the left bunker... these guys are insanely good.

WM2.jpg.36e38c3b6e77043df7be1b42738cc0ed.jpgwm4.jpg.b23e760fda7fe790ecfb60aa426401cd.jpg

With the Superbowl also in town, this weeks gate tally will most definitely set a record.  But even with that added patron count, my experience was good. I think going on Thursday or Friday, and staying clear of #16 is my game plan if I do this again next year.

Just noticing on the 16th hole... watching Schauffele throw a dart... and it may have been the camera angle (but I don't think so...) the divots are pointed left of the pin... that is VERY telling to anyone interested.  These are wedge shots for the pros... so consider your own wedge shots... where is your divot pointed... and more importantly, where do you think they should be pointed?  The answer should be 'just left of the target line" with the shortest irons in the bag... I'm reminding myself as much as anything... and noticing that there isn't a single one pointed right.

Hatton... 5W, 235, stiff.  That is only about 45 yards farther than mine.... and infinitely more accurate... haha.  I wish there was a button on my remote that auto converts the yardages to my game... maybe a closed caption conversion  haha.
