GaryF
I don’t disagree that changes to the golf industry and and communities are needed to attract a variety of golfers and prospective golfers. The statement that ‘truth is extinct’ is true with some portions of this ‘chat’. I can’t speak for any other community than the one I reside in, but the statement that families and women are segregated to watch the kids while the men play golf is just lazy, uninformed reporting. Keeping it real, keeping it on my level and same with everyone I golf with. And BTW this was reminiscent of the Mid-Atlantic meetup in August 2022 at Queenstown Harbor GC with a dozen MGSpies around the firepit behind Chester Cottage. Feels like being on the other side of the pit from the camera POV and listening to the conversation, just missing the chill from behind with the Chesapeake and Chester River behind us. I really like what the one guy said about there being 3 keys of Inform - Inspire - Entertain This is something I really took to heart and is a big part of the forum. We are here to do all three of those things and yeah I really like this conversation and I came away with a lot. I watched it, and I believe there is a certain segment of the population that would benefit from a certain amount of "old school" mentality in golf. Having said that how old is old, ever since I started playing in the late 60's early 70's there has been certain "etiquette" that went along with playing golf on a golf course. By the "good old days" do they mean the early 1900's? 1800"s? I can only speak to what I see through my eyes but I have rarely seen, in those 60 years, anyone at the golf course not wanting to grow the game, support new golfers etc. Dress code, well that is loosing up a bit, decorum on the course ie. music etc. is becoming more mainstream, from my perspective I dont think there is a business case for what these guys are talking about. I think one of the things that is appealing to golfers is some degree of etiquette. If they want to relax dress codes and things like that, fine. I don’t have a problem with music as long as it isn’t blaring and distracting others. Doing golf related things for and with the local community are actually fun, which I have volunteered for numerous times for kids events that we have hosted. I live in a private golf residential community that the guy in the middle on the opposite side of the ‘spy’ claimed he did an assessment here, but referred to us by our name that was changed 8 years ago, and said women watch the kids while men play on our 6 courses. Perhaps he was drinking too much - Ill-informed and insulting narrative that seems to fit his agenda while the other 5 were drooling as he spoke. As for their business case, I’m not really sure what it is. They can talk about a lot of things, but it takes money to implement.
