RBZ 5 iron

GolfSpy WD

Recommended Posts

I'm sure like many of you, I got an email a while ago saying I won a RBZ 5 iron. It's not due to ship until the middle of the month, but I'm seriously considering bagging it. My thoughts are:

1) It's not really a 5 iron, it's more of a 4 iron

2) Based on the design, it's really more like a 4 hybrid

My "real" 5 iron is 27* and my 3 hybrid is 19*, so the 23.5 RBZ "5-iron" falls smack in the middle of the two clubs and the offset is also smack in the middle. Has anyone tried this?

(As an aside, I may order a Rescue 2011 3-hybrid from GolfDiscount.com since the 18% promotion applies to last years models)

Theoretically I should be getting one as well. I'm gaming the Burner 2.0's so I'm curious to see how much of a difference it is from my current 5 iron. I'm also looking to revamp the shorter irons in my set (building some Dynacraft Prophet Tour Forged w/ KBS Tour shafts), so I have no idea what my final set makeup is going to look like.

I do know that I like the Burner 2.0 3 & 4 irons (really 2 & 3 irons) better than I liked my Adams Idea a12 Pro Hybrids; enough to get rid of the hybrids all together. I sold them to start to finance the short iron building. :)

Driver: Taylormade R11 9°, Fujikura Blur 60 S-flex

Fairway: Taylormade R11 15.5°, Fujikura Blur 70 S-flex

Fairway: Acer XDS React 18° "Machete", Fujikura Fit-On E-360 R Flex

Irons: Taylormade Burner 2.0, 4-PW, Steel SuperFast 85 R-flex

Wedges: Cleveland CG-14 Black Pearl 52° AW, 56° SW, 60° LW

Putter: Bionik 207 Nano Mallet Belly Putter, 43", Winn 21-inch Red/Black Putter Grip

Putter: Cleveland Classic #2 BRZ, Winn Jumbo Pistol Grip

Ball: Searching for a Penta TP replacement...

Not to derail my own topic, but you'll love the Prophet Tours. I'm going to get fit as soon as I can for a new shaft for them and the KBS Tour, S300s, and Nippons are at the top of my list.

I like the 3 iron from the Burner 2.0 set. It's 19 degrees so it's a challenge off of the deck, but I loooove it off of the tee. If the driver is out of whack I go straight to it. I'm hoping the RBZ 5 will replace the 4 iron and give me more options in the scoring clubs.

Got mine today. Kind of kooky looking...

I am interested in hitting it though. Seems like a hybrid more than an iron.

Anyone know the shaft weight. Feeling too lazy to go to the tm site... <_>

OK so I checked... :)

106g, 23° loft  38.25"

Now I want to check out the 17.5° 3i

Took the 5i out to the range yesterday, wanting to hate it. Looks awful to me. Couldn't hate it. This thing is just stoopid easy to hit. Over and over, high draws. Not totally sure of distance as I was on the range, but more than a few rolled up on the 200 yard green. It seemed like the RBZ 5i plays somewhere between my 4h and 3h. Very high ball flight. Shaft is definitely lighter than my S300 in my Razr X irons.

I get the feeling that people who need this type of club, but are turned off by the looks may warm to them after they get some balls into play. Shop didn't have the 3i to see what it looks like. If I had cash to burn, I would pick up a set of these just to experiment with them for an extended run on the course.

I was also wandering how long it takes. I just received my email 10 days ago, so I wasn't expecting it for another couple weeks.

+1. It's only been a few weeks since I got the email but I'm antsy to give it a go. Thinking about some new irons for the first time in forever and want to see how the RBZ stacks up.

  • 5 months later...

To follow up....I got mine in mid May.....

Used it several times as the look is just like my UGI PowerBilt AFO 5 iron.

Took both of them to the range and they gamed the ball the same.

Took it to the course on Saturdays with me and let others hit it...nobody was overwhelmed by it.
