One Eye Putting Practice

This probably falls under the category of too much time from insomnia but has anyone done putting drills with one eye closed?  The tinnitus was bad enough to keep me awake last night so after checking the stove in the basement I hit a few putts on the practice mat.  I'm not sure why but I started closing one eye  while lining up and hitting the putts.  I'm also not sure what it means for my game yet but I was much more comfortable and better with my right eye open than using my left eye.  I guess the right eye is dominant since I putted as well with only my right eye as with using both.

I distracted myself enough that before I knew it an hour had gone by and the screaming in my ears had let up.  👍

I just hope I can sleep tonight!  😂

Haven't heard of anyone doing drills with one eye, but it makes sense if it is your dominant eye.  I hear more about people putting with their eyes closed.

Sorry to hear/read about your sleeping issues. I've had them but not to your extent. Hope it goes away for you.

I have done one eye drills. I was at a point where my putting was awful. I was about to call on Jobo for a refill. I haven't done them since as my putting has evened out. One eye dominant is normal, shows up in several different forms of activity. I would be very careful getting used to putting with one closed/open. Doing a drill is fine just make sure to put more time in with both open, again my opinion only. Not sure if its a start line drill or possible swing path and the distance of a putt. For me it was swing path, I developed a huge arc and was throwing my start lines off. My drill was 5 putts with an eye closed and 10 with both open.

  • 4 weeks later...

This is an interesting topic, and there are some thing that I have noticed I am starting to do from time to time. I recently got a good price on a cobra, Aguirre putter and somehow I find that when I set it up, I have a tendency to sometimes have the shaft lean back and the face points slightly open an address. This is because I am strongly right eye dominant and when I'm standing over the ball having it like that seems to look square to my stereo vision. However it is not. What I did notice is if I close my dominant right eye, and then look down, I get a much more realistic perspective of the alignment of the golf shaft and the face alignment. So sometimes when I practice I will set up to the pot and adjust my alignment with my left eye closed, then will open my right eye, and ironically use my right eye only rotating my head to see if I am a line Square to the target.
