I really like what Odyssey is did with the Rossie.  The updates look great on that model, and I like that it has a bit of toe hang now.  I might just have to roll a few with it... but I still don't love insert faces.  They just feel mushy to me with the Pro V1x.

Also was cool to see LAB do well even in a "fit from stock" sort of environment.  I know our tests gave them basically universal praise last year, but that was with fittings, even if virtual.  And I like seeing Evnroll back on the "feels good" category.  I think with the first revision of the V series the feel wasn't rated as well, but I always felt the ER2B is one of the best feeling ones out there.

Seems like there are a lot of really good options out there for all sorts of golfers now.  Mallet guys, Blade guys, and a growing segment for the in between with wide-blades and some mallets that aren't face balanced.

It looks like the Best is locked down by ODYSSEY TRI-HOT 5K ROSSIE S as it shows up 3 times in the report.  Agreed a deeper dive is needed to find out why it is so highly rated.

Confirmed. I went to Golf Galaxy last month to get access to roll as many models as possible. I tried 50 or so putters from every OEM plus 1/2 the putters they had in their pre owned section which is probably close to another 50.

I put 5 of them to the side to take more swings: Ping prime tyne 4, a SC Futura 6mb, an evenroll mallet that I forget the model, the tri hot 5k rossie s and the sik dw 2.0 I ended up buying.

The reality is the Odyssey won this exercise. If I had unlimited money on the gift card I used it would be in my bag right now.

The only reason I bought the Sik is value, as it was pre owned and selling for $140 less than the new tri-hot.

The performance was close enough I feel confident I can get used to the heavy feel of the head in the Sik.

But the tri-hot felt like part of my body when I was swinging it. Very impressed by it. I gamed a stroke lab all last season, so there's comfortability there to start and I thought the interaction with the insert was much improved from the '18 stroke lab I was using.

@cnosil, maybe it's question for the next Forum Call, but do the OEM's decide what model of putter they want to submit for testing?  it's interesting to me that a Rossie with a good amount of toe hang was submitted versus the other Rossie in this line that is face-balanced.

There is some communication between HQ and the OEM but from my discussions the OEM decides what they are sending.  Evnroll; as an example, multiple of each model with the difference hosels and colors and we as testers had some input in which one we wanted to use.   Additionaly, Our stroke type has been measured on the Ping app and that influences which option we might test as well.meaning if a vendor submits a face balanced, crank/plumbers neck, and a slant neck we will be “fit” based on stroke type.  While this isn’t always perfect, it is similar to what would happen in a buy off the rack model.

If you have a strong arc, do you only test putters fitting that fit a strong arc or are you testing every model in the test and are fit to those that are given the option?

You test everything and if there are options they do their best to fit.

Same exact feeling for me.  It's all personal and I know soooo many people love white hot inserts, it's just way too soft for me.  I had to go to something firmer which is why I recently ended up with the TaylorMade GTX.

It was also super interesting to read about Xander Schauffele's putter change recently; how his old red Odyssey was too soft so he moved into a silver Toulon for the firmer feel, which Callaway then proceeded to paint red for his eye preferences.

I have 9 putters sitting in my basement, the best putter for me after all of this, LAB Mezz Max. Easiest putter to use and rolls them great.

@BeansGuy, only nine in the basement!?  That's pretty good.  Here in Key West, we don't have basements so my old putters (and I have to say it's likely over nine) are in my shed or hanging in the house.   Like you, I've migrated to a LAB putter.  But, I'm using the Directed Force 2.1.  Ever since adding it to my bag, my strokes gained from putting went from 0.84 to 2.44 strokes gained for my handicap range.  I love the fact that when I step up to a putt, I feel more confident that it will either go in or be very close.   I like the putter so much, I bought a second as a back up!

I had the same thing happen to me. I have never been as confident with the putter as I am now. It used to be the worst part of my game, but that has changed since I purchased that putter.

Maybe not the right place to ask this but does it generally take time to get used to a mallet style putter?  Every time I go to the store I end up rolling some putts with whatever they have out for demo and it just seems "off" for me compared to my regular blade putter

We probably all have opinions on this.   IMO, I’d say it is like other clubs in that there really shouldn’t be time needed to get used to the putter.  Getting used to it typically means you are changing something in your stroke to get the putter to work.  Ideally you want the putter that fits your stroke and performs well from the start.   Mallet putters have come a long way in the types of profiles offered and can work for more putting styles but some people just perform better with a blade putter. That could be due to performance needs or simply the look at address.

I tried one of those Callaway DFX Rossie putters- I thought it was really nice- Had a nice soft feel to it and good audible feedback. Alignment was real easy and it's a BUNCH cheaper than the standard Callaway putters
