Just now, Mr. Mushball said:

I played last weekend, but didn't post the score as it was at an unofficially rated par 54, and we played a scramble, so I have no idea what I really shot.  We ended up at net -5 on the round though.

Again, I had one great side and ah....OK side.   I shot a 38 (+3 gross) on the front this morning.  I had six one putts and two of the three two putts I had a green in regulation.  One of those two putts was from 56 ft.  My chipping and approach shots were on today.  I had a total of 67 ft. of putts made, including a longest of 14 ft.  That will tell you how close I was to the hole most of the time.   Seven up and downs is not too bad as well.

image.png.15b39022acf924cd360cddbb056408ca.png

The back I had two doubles based on two bad decisions.  I was pin high and just off the green on a long par four in three.  In those situations, I will chip the ball as I have more confidence in it than trying to judge the speed impact of the collar.  Unfortunately, I didn't remember how downhill the chip was and ran it considerably past the hole, missing the come back.  On another long-ish par four dogleg to the left I convinced myself I was far enough back to hit a five wood layup over the tree guarding the left side.  I was too focused on the tree and duck hooked it through the tree and into the water.  I hit a great approach leaving me a 10 ft. putt for bogey, but just missed it.  Though I'm happy with the 80, I should have been in the high 70's.  Well, maybe Thursday!

It was nice hitting fairways again.  I borrowed a Callaway head, picked up a shaft on Callaway Preowned and now have a backup driver I have confidence in.

Two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine for Even Par from nine.  One double and two bogeys on the back nine for a 39.  First walking 18 hole round in 4 years!

Four bogeys and one birdie on the front nine for a 40; 8 straight pars to start the back nine then took a double on #18... sad!  Still a 37 is a decent score for me.

What are we calling KP?  Tee and approach shots, or do chips count?

Current GHIN is 3.9, when entering course handicap it just took the 3, not the. 9.  The net birdies is 6 with the 3.9, or 5 with the 3.

A little on the cool side but not too bad. Was just killing my drives and even had a few make the 300 mark. Now I just need to get my short game caught up and I might be able to drop a couple strokes.

How did that old song go? "I fought the law, and the law won". . . Today was more "I fought the wind, and the wind won". Nothing wanted to stay on target, got pummeled by flags, could barely balance during my swing, had to play the wind on putts. It was tough today.

The upside, #3 I hit my second shot so bad it probably kept me out of trouble and set me up with a chance to save par. Somehow, I pulled a birdie out of my hat on #18. Drive on 18 was a terrible topped hook draw that went maybe 230 and landed on the back side of a small hill/dune. I could barely keep my balance in the wind let alone on the side of this hill. Anyways, used it as a launch pad and hit an amazing 3w that found its way under a tree left of the green. I had been using bump and runs all day to try to stay out of the wind so decided to stick with the strategy and pulled out a 9i. Gave it a pop and literally yelled "oh god no" thinking I sent it to the other side of the green. For once a big gust of wind showed up to actually help and the ball came to a rest about 3 feet from the pin. Tapped it in for birdie and decided I can keep playing golf.

It's always that once great hole or shot that keeps us coming back.

TLDR of #18 in picture form

Quick twilight, 2 hours. 39 putts, greens were not in great shape but I still want to do better than that. 3 chunks off the tee led to +4 combined, 3 putts cost about 4 more strokes. Struck the ball well about 85% of the time.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

St Patrick’s Day, everyone wearing green(11 players today). Best hole: Par 4 dogleg right #6: 5 iron off the tee into the water on right. Drop and took 8i cutting the corner to the edge of the fringe. 9 yard putt for Penalty Par!  Worst hole: Par 4 #10, on the green in 2, then proceeded to 5 putt into the hole…..ugh! Round was a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde(42/49:91).

Longest Drive 245

Course was sloppy after a big thunderstorm last night, and there was a 1 to 2 club wind most of the way.. against me every hole haha.  But I played my shots and did my best to accommodate the wind.  Had 4 natural birdies, including a chip in from about 80 feet all the way across the green.

This was a more conventional birdie on the #5 Par 3.

Kept coming up short on my approach shots for the first half of the round but my putting and chipping was saving me. It was a bit cool but the course was pretty open.

Had a miraculous birdie putt on #3. It has 2 tiers and everything slopes very hard towards the front and a little to the side. I was sitting on the fringe at the top. Pretty much all you can do is tap is just light enough to get the ball rolling and hope you don't have a 20 foot putt coming back up the hill. I left the pin in out of laziness but it paid off. The ball made its way down the hill and hit the pin perfectly to drop in!

This round is being used for 2MuchSnicerz in the forum players tourney.

Okay, so here we go.  Definitely would've been a much nicer day score-wise without the two blow-up holes (9,10), but overall, a really, really fun round with lots of good shots (especially with the 6/9 irons I'm testing), and some good putts that JUST missed making this even better.

Course: Vista Valencia Golf Course

Par: 61

Tees played: Blue ("tips," if we're being fancy, lol)

Long Drive: 252

Closest to pin: 16 ft (missed birdie putt, thanks)

Only 1 three-putt on the day, and that was from the very back of a long green that I lagged well (distance-wise), had about 5 feet to save par and left it high and lipped it.  Oh well.  Hit my irons SO well, overall.  My buddy and I played with a couple of guys that are easily some of the most-fun dudes we've ever played with, and it was sunny and warm, so overall, a fantastic day - managed to get home in time to shower and get to my vasectomy with plenty of time, so one of those days where I felt VERY productive 😉 (just not very REproductive. Ba-dum-dum.  I'll be here all week.)

Oh my god! I think this is the first round I've had under 30 putts! 29 putts!  Granted, 2 of these had balls JUST off the green that I putted, but...I'm counting it the same way a statistician would 😉

Nice day, friendly companion, walk was brisk no pace issues, wind was punitive, more than the 12mph as advertised as much as 20 on gusts which seemed to be when I was headwind into a long par 4/5.

Play was suboptimal and that's being nice. Started double double and my focus drifted from there, gradually becoming a semi practice round where I kept a score I didn't care about.

I've decided playing 3 days in a row is too much and leads to fatigue. I also think playing 3-5 times a week is leading to not appreciating as much when I'm out there it's focus time, not I'll do better tomorrow. I will start playing once a week for a while. Maybe a week off in the mean time.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

Shot my age again today!  Best round I have ever had on my home course wrt GIR... 12!!  Problem today was I could only make one of those birdie chances;  putts were just too long.
