PGA Tour 2023 - WGC Match Play

Congratulations to Sam Burns, he looked like he was ready to collapse after the match.  
It’s a grueling week for the Final Four.

I bets Burn's is happy he finished it so early. Thats a lot of golf they've played over the last few days

I also love this format. I enjoyed this better than a regular tournament (even some of the majors). The Tour should do MORE of this, not get rid of the only one they had.  My mind even goes so far as to think that this or something similar to this format should be one of the Majors.

Yeah I agree. I had so much fun watching this tournament. It's got me even more excited for the Ryder cup later this year. That's almost a match play major, right?

Once again had to catch highlights! But so much fun to do so. 

Great tournament and fun slight change of pace. 

Honestly though just wish it was the Masters this week.

I’m not sure where/how to watch golf in Europe. There’s no European golf channel, is there?

What about ESPN+ ? That’s where I watch most of my golf as I’m usually not near the TV a lot

I found the broadcast unbearable to watch with all of the commercials that NBC forced on the viewers.

You mean like the PGA Championship was, before television made it mostly obsolete?

Two different sides of the same tournament.  This is one of the problems with televised match play events, there's a TON of time between shots.  The broadcaster can fill it with inane feature stories, inane chat from the announcing team, or inane commercials.  Add to that the potential to have two relatively uninspiring players in the final match, its really unlikely to see a match play tournament more than once or twice a season.

I have always hated Sports by NBC.  They have always inserted updates on other sporting events along with the insidious features by Bob Costas, Jim Gray, etc.  When I dial in golf I want to see golf and not all of the extra BS!

For better or for worse, televised match play golf has a lot of non-golf time to fill.  I don't really care who televises it, there's going to be a lot of "non-golf stuff".  I don't think there's a single golf commentator who I'd want t listen to for most of 4 hours while the players walked from one shot to the next.

Really enjoy watching it and love match play.  Think it is the real test of golf, one of one.  My favorite game to play.

Agreed! Thank goodness, I had it recorded and could just skip those.

Still don't get how they can't keep this for one week on the schedule.  It is unlike anything else they do and I think the course has a bunch of very unique holes that make it a perfect fit for matchplay.  There are so many golf tournaments in a year and all are individual stroke play.  I think it is a nice change of pace and not too much to ask for to keep one event as the matchplay tournament.

Yes, good point - It's the team major.

The format lends itself to determining gold-silver-bronze at the Olympics, that would be a fun way to keep it alive and make it a treat we only get to see every 4 years.

Agreed. 

Someone recommended that the Tour Championship be changed to match play. It would negate the staggered strokes at the start; I’ve never been a fan of that. I’d be all for a match play format to determine the TOUR and FedEx Cup champion(s).
