Nate Wagner
I recently made some major swing changes that jumped my club head speed up from 95-100 to 110-116. I'm still fairly new to golf and was using a Taylormade RBZ Black driver with a regular flex shaft. I noticed that I was having *more* trouble with club face control with the increase in swing speeds and was also seeing a jump in spin numbers with average moving above 3200... not ideal. So, I did some YouTube research, lol, and switched to a stiff flex shaft, not wanting to go x-stiff. I will say that I seem to have gained more control over my club face with the increased stiffness and the ball isn't going quite as high and spinny, but I'd like to launch it even lower, or at least be able to. All that to say, I think that I put more stock in changing shaft flexes than is actually the case, and for me it comes more down to feel. It feels more in control and doesn't require to think as much about the timing of my swing (this could just be psychological). I also now have stiff flex shafts all through my bag so I like the consistency of having the same feel up and down the bag. The regular flex shaft was a stock shaft that tailor-made provided. My new shaft is a project x HZRDS that comes in the Mavrik drivers. GolfSpy_APH 1 Quote Nathan Wagner, Callaway Mavrik dr-aw, callaway jaws 58, and spider tour putter. pbclubdude
Sounds like you are on the right track. My suggestion would be to look at the ball you are using. Something less spinny may help with the launch.

Correct because there’s no standard for flex in the industry and one companies stiff can be another companies regular and smoker companies x stiff. Even within a company two different lines is shafts can be different. As you mention the shaft does two things.
