4 is tough, but not as tough as 7.  The first time through I achieved a milestone and got with 120 yrds on my second shot.  It is a long slog uphill to a dogleg right.  Pretty open at the top, but if you leave yourself wrong it's an extra shot in.  The hill is about 60'(?) high.  I myself can't drive far enough to reach the top, but got 15' below the crest on my first drive.  4w took me to 120, then I flailed.

I had an @snicerz moment on #3 on the 2nd trip.  It's a par 3 over water, and I mishit and pushed my 9 left to the black tees on #4.  Ok, cool, I'll do a nice punch over the cart path, hit the rough to slow it down. The green slopes steeply to the water, it isn't a friendly green, especially from the top.  Hit it a bit low (topped) and hit the face of the opposite cart path curb, which kicks it even further up the tee box on #4.  Sheesh.

laughing with you, not at you Mr. M.

Not to make things more complicated... but I played 13 holes today and had to leave for an appointment... haha.  Now, there is a method for posting 14 holes, but not 13... so I guess I can either go back and play the remaining 5 holes... or throw away the few back nine holes and combine the front with my next 9.  whichever one I have a chance to do first I guess. 🙂

Today was my last round for this season.  I basically shot my handicap at 84.  About the eight hole, I figured out the issues I was having with my putter.  The result was only 11 putts on the back!

image.png.2cc05ecba8d33b57e09cfbd2834786b8.png

I had an uncharacteristic 3 putt on the first par 3 for a bogey.  The first was 41 ft. long and I ran it past 6 ft.  I felt pretty good about the five up and downs and fairways hit at 86%.  Hopefully next week I'll have my new G430 driver and will get a chance to see if the fitting results translate to the course,

Thank you all for participating in the virtual tournament.   I found it a lot of fun.  I can't wait for next season!

Again this may be specific to GHIN, and may not be available on the phone app, but the web offers the ability to select the course, the number of holes, which tees and which nine.

image.png

In the above, I have selected my course.  selected 9 holes (top arrow). the tees (this is a little confusing because the Men's White's are called "Back" and in parentheses is which nine... I selected the front nine for this example).  It gives you the course handicap to use for playing only the front nine from those tees.  If I play the front twice... my course handicap is a 2.

@GaryF if this is the methodology you used, I think your scores are accurate for the leaderboard.

Hope that helps clarify.

Yes, exactly.  I select the course, select 9 holes, then select the ‘3 tees front 9’, then same fir the other 9.  That gives me the course hdcp for each.  When I enter the scores and stats fir the first 9, GHIN then holds that score in waiting until a second 9 is entered to be paired with.

I've thought about this as a concept for people who want a course in restricted space. A massive green with 3 holes and multiple fairways leading into it, then multiple tee boxes on each of the 3 cart paths leading into that say 85' by 35' green.

I saw something on a design like this out there.  It's on a private farm somewhere that got built out over time because the guy liked to golf and just kept building.  It's now a club with members and they only let a few people from the public on each year.  Can't recall exactly where I saw it or where it's located, but somewhere in the midwest or dustbowl region.  Maybe someone else here knows?

Cool. I'll have to Google it. I thought it would be a good repurpose for a defunct winery. Convert tasting room to cocktail lounge and vineyards to practice area/makeshift course and call it "Twisting Vines" or something like that.

I almost ran into this situation on the last round.  Had to bail to pick up the kid.  Fortunately, got through 16 and took the net par score to finish out the round as per USGA rules.  Fortunately, that' wasn't better than I was playing most of the course anyhow.  Or worse really, so a fair score.

Well, I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!!  The course does have ratings and slopes for both nines.  They are just not posted on the scorecard or website.  They have it posted in the clubhouse and the course rating and slope for any course in GHIN, 18 or 9 holes, can be found at:

https://ncrdb.usga.org/

At my course I am a 3 on the front nine and a 2 on the back nine, and that agrees with my 18-hole CH of 5.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

A bit of a struggle. Back decided to flare up prior to leaving for the course. Really struggled to get any rotation in. Pretty happy with how I scored with how I was able to swing it.

Can't believe you are putting up the sticks until NEXT SEASON G2M!!!  So do you have a round scheduled for Monday or Tuesday??? haha 🤣

I could play on Monday, but I need to rest up for the rest of next week.  It's busy with the start of season 2, with rounds on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, a driving 320 miles for a fitting on Wednesday and our monthly Lower Keys Golf Association scramble event on Sunday to help raise money for junior golf in the Lower Keys.  At 66, I just don't recover that quickly, so two days of rest are sort of needed!

Difficult conditions on a chilly windy day.  First time I have played our course since they punched the tees, fairways and greens last Monday/Tuesday.  It takes away the best part of my game... chipping and putting.  The wind has blown a lot of the sand out of the plug holes and chips shots land and do strange things; putts don't break like they should.  However, since this was the last week of the Virtual Tournament for the season, I had to get one round in.

Three doubles... all 3-putts!!

Played bogey golf for most of it. 1st time here in 4 months, forgot some of my preferred lines and found some OB and some sand traps I forgot were there along the way. No putts fell. Some greens were bumpy, some were fast, not consistently manicured played a role, but I can't blame the grass for the 5 I pushed right of the hole.

About average for me, maybe a little worse than average, but not the worst so I'll take it. Definitely struggling with my swing as I'm trying to correct my out to in tendencies and reduce my slice which cause me to top and blade it a lot more. It'll be a rough go for awhile but it'll be worth it in the end. Definitely a hard course for me, because it's narrower than my favorite city course, but it was also a whole lot shorter. Beautiful day tho with the bros! Amazing weather, couldn't ask for better golfing weather. Sun was shining, low winds but enough to make the air not feel stagnant.. Just *chef's kiss*, worth the sunburn 😄. Looking forward to the range tomorrow or Tuesday now!

My home course here in Key West will aerate about once every 6 or 7 weeks after the "season" concludes about mid May.  I think last Summer they aerated four time and in an unusual move did three or four greens in January.  By the third time they are punched and top dressed, the green condition almost becomes "normal" and it doesn't become such a distraction.

Our course aerated greens last fall.  Grass recovered quickly because it was still growing.  When they aerate in the spring, the grass is just starting to grow again, but it's slow... it's still almost freezing at night and highs have only been in the 50's.  Of course, the wind blows a lot this time of year and the sand doesn't stay in the holes.  It will take quite awhile before we get decent greens to putt on, and I was putting so well before they aerated when stimp was around 12.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Couldn't get on at home so I went on the road Saturday. Perfect day for golf. Perfect temp, almost no wind, sunny, all the great things. As I expected, the public course was in a bit better condition than Surrey. I wonder if it has something to do with weed control and irrigation. . . Anyways, it was a pretty good round, slow but good. I started getting sloppy on the back 9 and spent way too much time waiting on a hot dog at the turn. Hole 10 was a travesty, 11 was ugly but great. Honestly, "ugly but great" was the theme Saturday. Found a lot of bunkers and kept coming up short on approach shots. This meant I had a lot of long putts or I had to rely on my amazing chipping abilities (insert sarcasm).

All that being said, I was hitting the ball pretty straight instead of my usual slightly pulled shot. Approach issues were more down to me not adjusting to the course conditions. Greens were soft! Or maybe normal, I don't really know. All I know is that I had ball marks to fix on the green for the first time in a long time. I'm also not sure why mixing ball marks is so satisfying to me.

Anyways, back on subject. Long drive was a well struck shot just didn't quite get the ball to turn over. Was a par 5 so I think distance was more important than accuracy to some extent on that one. Either way, I managed a sand save birdie despite the offline drive.

I do want want highlight a couple notable holes that were just awesome for one reason or another.. First, #12. Still trying to get back on track from the extended wait for the snack bar, My drive was not great. Again, face just a little open and I caught it high on the face for a very high drive. Of course, I found another fairway bunker. Had kind of the same thing happen on a par 5 earlier in the round and decided to give my 5 iron another go with a bunker shot. For whatever reason, my 5 iron was just on point that day. Give it a blast and watch the ball land maybe 5 feet in front of the green and roll up to about 3 feet from the pin.

#13, fresh off another sand saved birdie, I'm feeling confident but forgot what the next hole had in store. Pics first.

#13 is a par4 with an "island" fairway. I had my target at 215yds carry to allow for some rollout. Unfortunately, this would require a perfect shot with a 4h or a very dialed back 3w. I can't do less than full throttle with my 3w and decide to risk it with the 4. Of course I don't make perfect contact. 😄 Thinking I just completely screwed myself as I watch my ball splash in the water right next to the bank, I go back to my cart for another ball. I give it a whack and tried to keep it a bit more to the right. As I'm pulling up to my second shot, I find my first ball 2 feet up the bank. I guess I had just enough speed to get a skip on the water and save me! Of course this left me with the WORST lie for my second shot. Up hill, back foot a couple inches from the water, a bit muddy. Luckily, I was able to hold my footing and get a decent swing on it. Left my self with a very long putt but I'm used to that.
