How many sets of clubs have you owned in your lifetime

Hmmm… 1st was some undefined kids set when I started group lessons at 5.

Then some hand-me down Hogans from Dad, until they knew I was serious about the game.

First new, fitted full set in high school was Powerbilt Levelumes. Played them (including persimmon woods) until I was the last in the world to switch to metal woods.  I wanted to see my game was improving through skill instead of technology.

Went through a period of infrequent play where I used my brother’s old First Flight irons

Most recent are new Callaway XRs, with second hand Titleist 910D2 driver, 913H 4 hybrid, and a couple Vokey wedges. And it seems GI irons really do improve your (mid handicap) game!  Who knew?

Now that I’m playing more, almost 70 with an 18 index - any suggestions?

Congratulations on your first MGS Forum post and what a good one too!  Looking forward to seeing more of your posts across the Forum threads and there is a wide variety of topics,  Welcome in! ⛳

Personally I do not care if they anchor a putter or not. I will say in all fairness and I have said it before 99% of all of those that play the game play by the rules of their own group and could care less what the USGA The R&A or the PGA Tour for that matter say.

Most courses here made again a local rule and disregarded the Anchor ban because a lot of senior league players have bad backs and such.

... Nerves are a huge part of competitive golf and I was all for banning anchored putters on Tour. If your nerves get the best if you on the back 9 at Augusta you deserved to lose because putting is the great equalizer when golf is played at the highest level.

... But like you, I really could not care less what an AM does during a round of recreational golf or local tourneys and if anchoring a long putter to their chest or belly helps them enjoy the game more why not? Especially those with a variety of physical issues. And if someone distance challenged wants to use an ERC and MG Senior ball that are both over the legal limit for distance have at it! This is one of the reasons I am all for a roll back of distance for the top .001% because we have bifurcated the rules forever and pretending we all play the same equipment and use the same rules as the Tour Pros on any tour has never been the case for the vast majority that play this great game.

I have tried the MG Senior ball and I swear I can not get as much out of it as I do a Srixon Q Star or Q Star Tour. Back in the golf shop days I built a bunch of non conforming SOOO Long Intregra drivers. Back then I could still hit a golf ball and we built one for me. Those heads and faces were cheap and the faces as thin as paper. Never used it in actual play but I caved the face in one night on the range. Of course we cut it open and did an "autopsy" and then we knew the rest of the story. But the seniors we built them for then are like I am now can not swing hard enough to crack an egg

Shared a junior set (1) with my brother for the tag along with dad to the driving range days.

Used set of TourModel II was my first set as a teenager - 2

Used Callaway X -14s - 3

Used Callaway X-22s - 4

Used Callaway XRs  - 5 (current set)

Various hand me down drivers over the years, almost exclusively Taylormade fairway woods.

Thinking about a new set this year, actually pay for a fitting. It would be the first time ever buying new. Also, the only time I feel serious enough about golf to spend the money on a new set.

I honestly have lost count. I started out with a brand new box set of Wilson 1200LT clubs I bought at Service Merchandise in late 80's and early 90's. Had those for a few years and then started my annual to bi-annual changing of the irons. My guess is that I have owned at least 20 different sets of irons. I have had Wilson, Cleveland, Adams, Cobra, knock off Pings called Zings, Zevo, TaylorMade, Mizuno and now PXG.

I've had over 10 different sets over my 50 years of golfing. Might seem a little low, but I stayed with some sets (ie blades, cavities) because they worked so good. Now I'm playing Cobra woods and irons the last 20. I've never been so accurate with any other makers.

50 yrs. of left-handed golf, for the first 25 years, there were only about three companies that made them in lefty and did not come out with the lefty version for at least 2 years after it was introduced right-handed and only a couple of versions. Fast forward to the last 25 years and the floodgates opened for left-handed golf club manufacturing and we, most of us lefties became golf club junkies and have been on a spending spree for years, I would only guess at least 30 sets of irons and so many more drivers and putters to go with that. Did it help my game, maybe, the story is not done yet as I am headed to Callaway Preowned right after this confession.

love playing golf ,live in The villages area,Fl.

Roberto De Vicenzo blades (what a mistake)

Titleist cavity back knock offs

Wilson Fat Shaft II

Taylormade Midsize (wedge grooves would shave the ball)

Callaway Big Bertha

Ping G30's ( found out they were counterfeit)

Callaway Diablo Edge (best looking irons I've ever owned)

Ping Raptures

Mizuno 923 hot metal irons (on order)

This covers my 1st 35 years of playing this crazy game.

... The Golfsmith store in Schaumburg (Chicago suburb) had a huge selection of used left handed clubs and the other Golfsmiths often shipped their used left handed clubs to them. When Tony Kukoc played for the Bulls and after his retirement, I would see him there often and always buying left handed clubs. Maybe the biggest Club Ho I have ever seen in person.

Cool topic. There are some impressive lists in here!

My list is on the short side, only three sets of irons.

Square Two Rave II 4-PW. Wife purchased a used set of these for me somewhere around 2009-10 because I kept mentioning that I was “contemplating taking up golf”. Her way of making me stop talking about it and do it. I actually still have this set. I was only playing a couple rounds a year at this time, usually golf outings through my employer.

Callaway X2 Hot 4-AW. Bought these used in 2017 when I decided that I actually was going to make golf one of my priorities. Started playing at least weekly and made the attempt at improving. Kind of wish I would have kept these because they made me really enjoy the game. Started to consider myself a golfer and not just someone who plays golf somewhere during the time that I had these.

Mizuno JPX-921HM 4-GW. Bought new and fitted in 2021. Current set in my bag and absolutely love these.

Irons are one thing that I stick with for a while... if we did this same exercise with drivers, I'd probably miss 4-5 of them...

Before full-size sets, had some custom-built Golfsmith stuff (Texas Classic 3-5-7-9, I think). The full size sets:

Cleveland VAS 2-LW - before you ask: used them for multiple years. Yes, I still have them. Yes, they're all-original...including the original grips 😅

Ping i3 Blade 2-PWloved these things, but ran into shaft issues, I'm guessing related to getting slammed in a trunk or something (plus overuse, maybe not drying, etc.). 2-iron actually snapped on me, mid-swing, inside the grip, while demonstrating at a junior clinic -- all the kids got a good laugh, but after replacing the shafts with what our pro had in the shop, played 6 months of the worst golf I could imagine. While they were being fixed, I borrowed a set of Mizuno T Zoid Pro and nabbed what is still my only individual tournament win, so...

Mizuno MP30 2-PW

<took a bit of a break from playing and club ho'ing>

Ping i20 3-PW

Mizuno JPX919 Forged/Tour Combo set (4-6 Forged, 7-PW Tour)

Titleist T100S (MGS Test) 5-PW with a T200 3-4 iron and U505 1 iron (current signature)

Driver: :taylormade-small: Stealth Plus 8* (adjusted to 8.75*), Mitsubishi Diamana ZF 70 X Flex (New toy incoming!)

Fairway: :taylormade-small: Stealth2 Plus, 15* (adjusted to 14.25*) w/ Graphite Design Tour AD-IZ 7X

Irons:  :titleist-small: U505 1 Iron (16*), T200 "Utility Build" 3 and 4 irons, all with Graphite Design Tour AD-IZ 95 X Flex, :titleist-small: T100S 5-9 with Nippon Pro Modus 120 X Flex (2021 MGS Test). These things are monsters.

Wedges:  :vokey-small: SM9 46.10, 54.12, and 58.08, all with custom etchings & KBS Tour Masters-themed shafts, X-flex (CHA Post)

Putter: Total headcase and Putter Ho. Down to two main options in the rotation (one mallet, one blade), but have 4-5 by the basement putting green that might make it in the bag at some point this year... Mallet: :L.A.B.: Mezz XL 36" Orange; Blade: :L.A.B.: Link.1 w/Accra White shaft & :garsen: grip

This thread is making me feel better since I'm an equipment junkie and in good company.

High school- Dynatour (Christmas present from my parents), Callaway Warbirds (hand me downs from our team capt when he saw the dynatours)

Post college- Cobra F Max's (first set I ever bought myself) Honma XP-1's (first set I ever got fit for), and PXG Gen 3 XP's (wanted a set for travel since bringing the honmas long distance made me nervous and got a great deal on the PXGs since I got them after Gen 4 came out)

Putter collection is out of control though, it's an addiction and I can't help myself.

Honma XP-1s, Rad Speed, and my trusty Scotty Cameron Triple Black

In my 36 years of playing, I believe it is 4 or 5. That’s it for irons. I remember my last three, but I can’t remember if I had a full 3-pw set in between my starter set and my old Hogan Edges. My current set I’ve had since 1999

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

Began playing after college, golf was a nerd sport when I was in high school.  First round was with my college baseball team, post season get together, hooked ever since.  Soooooo... 1991 was ground zero for this study in frustration.  Not sure they are in the proper order, but it's close

*forgot PING ISI Nickel, and from reading other posts.  The Hogan's were Radial, no apex in the name (I think)

I started off playing golf with one of my father's old Tommy Armour blades, that was in 1997.

Then in 1998 by father bought me a set of Anvil Irons with a Spalding Big Momma 3 wood and a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 gun metal putter. The deal was then if I become a single handicap I can get better clubs.

Then in 2000 I became a 9 handicap and got a set of Muzino T-Zoid Comp CT irons and a Muzino T-Zoid driver with a golden head.

In 2002 I added a Hogan Apex Edge 2 iron to the bag and in 2003 I changed the driver to a Taylormade R540.

In 2003 I cracked the face on the R540 which Taylormade then swapped for a R540XD.

In 2006 I bought a Nike Sumo SQ driver which I could carry 320m.

In 2008 I bought my current Muzino MP32 irons.

In 2009 I cracked the face on the Nike and the local retailers wouldn't even do the effort to get it to the Nike rep to have a look at it, so I bought a Adams driver, also with a square head and fitted it with an extra stiff shaft.

In 2021 I bought a used Taylormade R15 driver.

In 2022 my brother in law swapped my R15 for a Titleist TS3.

The putter my father bought in 1998 is still in the bag without any plans for me to change it.

In 2023, as in tomorrow, I am planning to go for a fitment with Srixon for irons, will see how it goes and if they are worth the change from the MP32's. I do think the more forgiveness will help my scores a lot. with the blades any slight mishit really punishes my game.

Not that many really for an old man. A Junior set when I was a kid, a couple of hand me down sets from my Dad (including a set of classic Wilson Staffs), a set of Spalding Top-Flights, a set of TaylorMade LCG Burner irons and Burner Driver with the graphite bubble shafts, a set of Callaway Mavrik irons with Ping G425 LST driver and 3 wood.  The Mavrik were later replaced for free by Callaway with ST Rogue Max irons after I snapped two shafts and busted a club head (insert on back came off) in the space of several months.

Next set?  Not sure yet as I like what I’ve got but you never know!

p.s.  Really appreciated Callaway’s great customer service.  First replaced the broken 7 iron then later the whole set after the shafts broke.  No questions asked.  Well done!

Make it 4, I bought a pre-owned set of sub70 today, 20% off promo. Cost me $280 I couldn't pass up. This is the (no joking) exact set I put together when browsing their offerings and decided I wouldn't drop $500. 6-PW 699 satin 1° flat +1/2" length w/ black pvd kbs tour v 110 R steel and red/white/blue ferrule.

I almost fell over when I saw VG condition matching what my fitting calls for for less than it would cost to put those shafts in my current iron heads. The exact color coordination I wanted was the clincher.Screenshot_20230404_200847_Chrome2.jpg.17594f9fde79162a9cdafc946d95f6e5.jpg
