I’ve had three sets:

  • Wilson Prostaff
  • Mizuno MX-23
  • Mizuno JPX 900

Perhaps I can use this thread as part of my PowerPoint presentation to justify a new set of irons.

LOL I am going to claim resident club ho on MGS. John Smalls can back me up on this because he has been to my shop. I probably have more sets in my building out back than most have owned not counting the front bedroom and the building across the road. This is off the top of my head

9 sets of Macgregor blades different models and years

Right at 50 persimmon drivers

At least 100 wedges

At least 100 putters

Around 25 different bags

Miscellaneous sets of irons probably 15 or so including KZG and Crown Sterling

10 modern metal drivers and not counting the persimmon fairways or hybrids either

But I am proud of myself I have bought only one club in the last 3 years and traded out 2. Prior to 2000 I only owned 5 sets of irons. Between being a co owner of a golf shop and working for a metal recycling company I became a club ho

This is kinda neat.

I had a few junior sets in the 90s, but starting in Middle/High School, I’ve opened 3 sets:

Ben Hogan Apex,

Callaway Big Bertha 2004,

currently New Level PF2

I bought my current set in 2021….and I thought they were newer, haha. Granted, I didn’t play much in college or grad school.

Hmmm… 1st was some undefined kids set when I started group lessons at 5.

Then some hand-me down Hogans from Dad, until they knew I was serious about the game.

First new, fitted full set in high school was Powerbilt Levelumes. Played them (including persimmon woods) until I was the last in the world to switch to metal woods.  I wanted to see my game was improving through skill instead of technology.

Went through a period of infrequent play where I used my brother’s old First Flight irons

Most recent are new Callaway XRs, with second hand Titleist 910D2 driver, 913H 4 hybrid, and a couple Vokey wedges. And it seems GI irons really do improve your (mid handicap) game!  Who knew?

Now that I’m playing more, almost 70 with an 18 index - any suggestions?

The sub70 shaft offerings for seniors really stood out to me when browsing. Look at the 799 irons, you can customize them for relatively cheap. Ping g700 irons like my dad plays also come to mind, similar hollow construction injected irons.

I like reading the progression of people's equipment here. Most seem to be recalling chronologically, it's kinda like a time capsule tour of iron sets.

Thinking back ignoring hand-me-down mismatched sets i believe the chronological order and approximate years.

Full iron sets:

Peak? Junior box set (2000-2003 years)

Topflite 2000 (2004-2012)

Taylormade R11s (2013-2019)

Maltby TS1s (2020- present)

Mizino MP-33s (1-2 rounds a year & sim play)

I honestly bet I could dig up all but first set.

Been playing for a little over 30 years and have had six sets of irons and 7 different combinations of drivers, fairway woods and hybrids.

Looking at the earlier replies, I am way behind the curve and have some catching up to do as compared to most. 🙂

I've now been playing golf (off and on) for 66 years and honestly have no idea how many sets of clubs I've owned, but I can't imagine it is less that about 30. In the past 10 years I've had about 5 different sets of Callaway, 3 different sets of Ping, and 3 different sets of PXG.  In spite of knowing full well that the clubs do NOT make the game, I keep trying to latest and greatest to see if I can play better. I only have a couple of sets currently as I have given most of them away to kids, grandkids, and veteran golf charity groups.  I do still have a full set of Pine Eye 2 (1-sand edge). In terms of individual putters, I would guess I've had a ton.  I've still got about a dozen different ones here at the house (Ping, Evenroll, Odyssey, Taylor Made, Cameron, etc.) that find themselves rolled into play as I keep searching for that magical one.  And yeah I admit I probably have a problem thinking a new set of clubs is ever going to help my game.  But I am just too old to change my approach at this point.

I have owned three, a I dunno set from my uncle, a basic $400 cobra iron set, and now driver down to gap wedge Callaway rogue st.

I have 3 dogs, I have 3 different hobby level rc, I try to golf as much as possible. At the moment my handicap is 25.1, and improving. Been golfing for about 10 years but only regularly for about 2.
