Looking for feedback on a low spin firm tour ball for high swing speeds

Recommended Posts

I have been searching and searching for a golf ball. I am a 5 handicap and at 61 can still swing the driver at 110. I have no problem spinning a ball. Matter of fact, I desire less spin. Also, in Texas need a ball with less side spin and that can handle the wind. I have tried Snell and Vice and didn’t care for their balls. I tried the PXG ball and it was ok. I tried the OnCore balls and really like the x1. I should have led with that I was always a Titleist player. Normally the Prov1. However, I seem to really spin that ball with my short irons. I do like the AVX as it doesn’t spin. However, I feel like I lose distance with it and I prefer a firmer ball. Recommendations?

Prov1 left dash is probably your huckleberry.

The maxfli tour and the Bridgestone BX might be worth a look for you.

Thank you for the recommendation. I did like the left dash. I also read the My Spy on it. I did use it last summer for several rounds. I have never hit the Maxfli or Bridgestone BX. Might be worth a try.

OnCore X2 could be on the list too.

Srixon Z Star XV

Just two I would add to the left dash that could be in your wheelhouse.

Also not to be overlooked is the Titleist AVX. Definitely a low spin Ball.

Thank you for the feedback. I have hit the X2. Nice ball, but flys a little high. Seems like the left dash and AVX keep creeping back into the conversation. I have hit both. Good balls just the AVX is a bit soft. The only bad thing about left dash is supply.

If you want less side spin then you will have to adjust your swing path so it doesn’t cause side spin

Understand what you are saying, but that is not the issue. Some balls by design spin more and are affected by the wind. OnCore put out a series by a golf ball design expert and he spoke directly to how some balls don’t hold up in the wind well. https://www.oncoregolf.com/golf-ball-basics-with-oncores-mike-jordan/

You seem to want several different things. You want a lower spin ball, you want a ball that can play well in the wind and you want to reduce side spin. Side spin is a result of the swing path and to and extent face to path. The other two things are more about the construction of the ball as well as contact point on the face, dynamic loft, aoa and so on.

Size spin is the tilt axis of the ball thus why. The more left or right the swing path is the more side spin and curvature of the ball thee will be.

Thank you for the feedback, but I respectfully disagree. I am actually seeking a low spin, low launch ball that is on the firm side. Also, one that holds up well in the wind. This is actually not a big ask. I fully understand the point you are making with swing path and club face impacts on spin and flight. I can work the ball both ways at ease or hit it straight when swinging well. However, side spin or wind influence on a ball can also be due to dimple pattern and ball construction. If one is playing the wrong ball then you can’t maximize your results. I am tinkering with balls to find what best fits my game. I don’t need to swing tinker to chase results with a ball. So far, I think it is the left dash that will fit the bill.

I hear you, but not is not what I was talking about in regards to ball construction and design. We are talking past each other on two completely different subjects. You are concentrating on my swing path and have never seen me hit a ball. I already fully understand how to and when not to impart spin via the club and swing path. Actually, ball striking is not where I drop shots. Short game and putting are the weak area. However, I’ll fix that this year. Now what I am actually speaking about is golf ball design. There are balls with no side spin placed on them that are still influenced by wind at a higher rate. There are balls that launch higher or lower by design. Again by design. There are low spin and high spin designed balls. That is the point of my original and subsequent post. Aerodynamics and ball design are what I am looking at for selection. I have narrowed it down to a couple balls I will be trying. This is based on construction and ball designed performance. That I will balance against how it works for my game. However, thanks for all your feedback.

I am also in windy Texas. Right now I have a bunch of AVX. The new ones have plenty of green spin. I also gamed the Callaway Chrome Soft X LS Triple Track before this last bunch of AVX. Callaway seems higher flying but still good into the wind.

I’m not a high swing speed but a high spin player. Honestly, I haven’t decided on my next batch of balls to purchase but the Callaway may be a touch longer. I still have some of both and will do a side by side test once the buying time approaches.

Honestly, I'd be shocked if it didn't spit out Left Dash, Tour BX, and mayyyyyybe TP5x? It might toss in AVX or standard ProV1 as well, even though these aren't 'firm' when compared to Left Dash, but what is? If you say you prioritize distance and want a firm, low-spin ball, there aren't many options.

It spit out the left dash. I have played 4 rounds with left dash and the highest was a 73. So, needless to say I am very happy!
