Taylormade Stealth Plus+ Driver w/ Tensei 65g X flex

Background:

While driving home this morning from work I decided to make a stop at the PGA Superstore because what’s a better way to kill a few hours on a Saturday than walking around and checking out all the new equipment on the market?

As a stubborn individual about my equipment who still plays his 2014 Nike Vapor Pro Combos and my Ping G400, both of which have been in my bag for a significant amount of time, I’m pretty loyal to the equipment that I’ve been able to rely on. Therefore I had no intention of making such a purchase today.

So I stumbled upon the secondhand and demo club area where the Stealth Plus+ stood out like an albatross on a scorecard. As someone who’s skeptical about every years “new and better” equipment, I thought I’d give it a swing. Needless to say I walked out of the store with it still not entirely sure about it and went straight to the range to decide whether it’d become my gamer or back into the resale market.

I wasn’t able to capture any numbers via a monitor for this review, however:

Looks:

The black slick head with the red face, really allowed for a steady focus on the ball while being able to feel confident with your loft angle at address.

Sound/ Feel:

Not the best of sounds at impact but with how they’ve designed the face there is a very different sound when the sweet spot is struck vs. a toe or heel strike. The club head seems a bit heavy but is preferred to me. The weight and adjustments of the head allow the club to be set up and easily adjusted to preference allowing for a set up to produce the best possible result. With these adjustments made I found that the driver is very forgiving with a minimal amount of distance lost when missing off the toe or heel of the club face. Many missed shots were also able to be kept within a smaller grid left or right of target where with other driver I’ve seen misses go completely off the range.

Overall:

Great product and highly recommend this driver to anyone who doesn’t mind or prefers a heavier driver with forgiveness or in the way Taylormade puts it, “FARGIVENESS”8a0a6a3239506d6525fe5a019b30b7cd.jpg

I’m onto the stealth 2 which sounds and looks better IMO. Having written that the biggest surprise of the stealth for me was its forgiveness - I’d hardly miss a yard from a miss hit.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Great review! I’d love to hear more thoughts after a few rounds on the course!
