For an update: It has been pouring rain the last few days, and there is no indoor facility where I live unfortunately. The sun is set to break back out, possibly this afternoon but tomorrow for sure apparently. More swings in bound!

I played yesterday and today. Today was a struggle to turn through the ball. Cold and windy.  Ball striking was still solid though. Managed 10 greens yesterday in route to a 74 and 9 greens today for an 82. The 9 greens today was an impressive number as I only hit 1 fairway off the tee today.

As a club ho’ I tend to judge new clubs on their transition period and so far Takomo 101T’s have been plug and play.
I’ll say this, I know it’s early with lots of testing left but the 6/7/8(my most used irons on course) have been money so far.

Rain stopped and got out to the range. @GolfSpy_BNG nailed it on the head, they're plug and play, automatic. The 301CB's have more ability to tell you the smaller differences in effective club face at delivery, or small swing plane changes. All in all, I find them very easy to hit. And when you hit them square, they're pretty delicious. I was less sore today with the weight of them, but still noticeable. The sweet spot isn't crazy small on the scoring clubs. 5/4 irons are tougher to pin point, but 6 down is wonderful!!!!!

I was able to hit a few balls over the weekend and my first impressions are very positive. The feel is good, I don't notice a difference really compared to my forged Adams Idea A12 Pro's. I notice a little difference in sound. The Takomo's have a little higher pitched click, but not something significant or by any means a turn off. These are very similar in size and shape to my A12's which is not a surprised as they are in the same realm of being slightly more forgiving but aimed at your lower handicap type player. To my eye the Takomo’s look slightly smaller, I think this is due to the blade hight looks to be a little shorter. I also think they might have ever so slightly less offset as well. Here are a few comparisons pictures.

Love the look of all these irons. I'm especially looking forward to hearing how the CB and MB perform. Suppressed at the offset on the 101 line. The company site did say offset in the description, but that's quite a bit! Best of luck guys

Good morning James, I received the Takomo 301MB's last Friday and have been on a launch monitor, gamed them twice and hit them on the range twice, they are really really solid clubs. They have been compared online to Mizuno and Miura's, i have played Miura's for the past 8 years and I would agree 100%. My advice to you would be to test Mizuno or Miura's or even Titleist MB so you get a bit of a feel of those clubs, get fitted for the correct shaft then you will have knowledge if the MB's are for you, with your 7.5 handicap you should be able to play either model.

I went from a  115 gram shaft to a 100 gram shaft (because I am getting old) and that has worked great for me).

Hey Spy's...

I had a great round yesterday, 7 birdies, 1 bogey and one double, and yes I am gaming the Takomo 301MB's.

There is something good happening with these irons for me anyway, the face and path of the shots seem to be more consistent, I am not an engineer but it has to have something to do with the design or makeup of the clubs.

The KBS stiff light shafts pair perfectly with my swing speed which is just on the cusp of a regular/stiff shaft so that is good, the shafts weigh 100 grams.

I have senior competitions June 15 and 16th in Kelowna and June 20 and 21st in Kamloops and there will be strong senior fields there and I am looking forward to using the irons and showing them off to the elite seniors in the province.

Believe me there will be a lot of "trying" and conversation about them, so far I have not had any negative feedback from the 2 members of my regular group that have tried them.

The only negative feedback I have had so far is my buddies can't read what is on the Takomo hat... ha ha...

I will keep all of you updated on the performance under tournament conditions.

I can agree with Jim, I'm testing the 301CB though, and the trajectory is more consistent. PW through 7 have a beautiful descent angle, and are more forgiving than 6-4 of the same set. It's almost as though they are a mini combo set in of themselves. I haven't had the chance to get them on the course but through 3-4 range sessions now, that has been constant.

Played my first 9 holes today with the Takomo 101Ts.

First impressions were very positive. The clubs feel very solid at impact and the sound from a solid strike was great.  Compared to my Haywood’s, the irons fly lower (trajectory) and I seem to have an extra 5-7 yards in carry throughout the set.  The lofts are basically the same. The KBR Tour Lite is heavier than my Recoils, so that may account for the lower trajectory. I should note the roll out was still reasonable.  Generally good spin and stopping power as well.  It was windy, so gauging carry distances for each club was a little challenging.  But that’s not surprising for a new set.

One of my highlights was an 6 iron with a slight helping wind on the finishing par 3.  Flew an extra 10 to 12 yards more than normal, but landed soft (2 ft of roll out) and pin high.

PNGimage.png.cfcb29ad3d7e73e16b85993a550dd318.png

The one area I will need to look at is my PW which seems a little heavy in the head compared to the progression from the 9 and 8 iron. I will get someone to look at it and check the swing weight.

Looking forward to a full 18 later this week.

You're a better golfer than I am but Tower Ranch is a bit of a nightmare. One particular fairway is 9 yards wide on an 18% grade. Kelowna golf and country is a much nicer experience!

I hit some more balls tonight on a launch monitor comparing the Srixon Z Star line of balls. I am impressed on the sound and feel of these. Even with the Z Star XV it had a very solid feel. Here are some 7 iron #'s IMG_1765.jpeg.acbde9af7378b536073b7af498cf24c0.jpeg

Good morning all, I have been offline for the past 3 days, playing in a tournament.

I didnt use the Takomo irons in the tournament as I am not 100% confident in the carry distances due to many factors, one of which is not quality of the product, it all comes down to just getting more reps in with the Takoma's and moving from "new" to executing the shot.

I have gamed my Miura's for 8 years so I know what to expect, the time will come when I game my Takomo's in tournament play, I am playing two practice rounds today and tomorrow and will have them in my bag, looking forward to swinging them again...

I will keep you updated...

I was able to get my first round in with the Takomo 301's yesterday. They perform much better on turf, there are more features in the in that almost become unlocked when playing on the turf versus the range. They are a little longer 7-10 yards over my TA7's. The weight is still the factor that the body needs to adapt to, they aren't the lightest clubs, especially paired with 120g steel shafts. They hit beautifully, easier to clean oddly enough, and shaping is easier, much so the longer the iron. Very, very pleased. These have been able to instill enough confidence without worrying if I need to have my Cleveland's around. Yesterday was a tournament, and I never had a doubt. It wasn't a massive tourney but enough of a test. All in all, these Takomo 301CB just keep exceeding expectations.

For those curious about spin. The Takomo 101T’s have plenty. I’m not a high spin player with anything but the driver and these 101T’s not only stop on a dime, I managed to back up a 7-Iron 8-10 feet from 158. IMG_0071.jpeg

Hit the range yesterday and the feel and sound of these 101Ts are very good. The carry distances and gapping look very good on the range.  They seem fairly forgiving but still give you good feedback on where it is hitting the face.

The ball flight hits a window that while lower than my typical irons, I really like it.

Looking forward to playing another round tomorrow, likely in the rain.

Hello Spy's,

I played a Nicklaus designed course yesterday, big fairways nice greens, gamed my Takomo 301MB's. I think I was a bit tired from 2 tournament days and hit some sloppy shots.

I am still trying to get used to the lighter shafts in the clubs, can't quite feel where the clubhead is so blocking some right of the target, not releasing the face properly. the longer irons 4-5 are giving me a bit of a challenge, not confident in where the club face is at contact. so all in all not a great ball striking day, the shorter irons are getting better every time out.

Having said this it doesn't surprise me in the least, the quality of the Takomo's are unsurpassed, it is the change in shaft and shaft weight that I am working on. Will it take a while, for sure, am I patient enough to figure them out, absolutely, I love the clubs...

My best shot was 165 yd. par 3 downhill, hit my 155 carry club (6 iron) on the button, landed about 5 yards before the flag and stopped about 6 feet from the hole, started to build muscle memory from shots like that...
