How many wedges are in your bag?

Recommended Posts

Just replaced the entire bag a couple of months ago, so have Cleveland Zipcore RTX in 48, 52, 56 and 60.  Replaced the Vokeys I had the past 2 years.  Getting more spin and similar distances with the Clevelands.  48 as Gap wedge around 115-120, 52 from 100-110 plus extended pitch shots, 56 sand wedge 80-90 yards, also for close to the green chips, 60 for inside 60 yards, steep bunkers and short chips where you either don't have much green to work with or a downhill lie to the hole.

Rest of the bag is Cleveland Launcher XL driver, 9.5, set to 10 degrees, Project X Cypher S flex.  Also use a Mizuno ST-Z Driver (Gen 1 - it's plenty long for me and does a great job keeping it in the fairway) 9.5 set to 10 degrees, UST Pro V2 S flex shaft. Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3 wood, Project X Cypher S flex. XXIO X Black 4 hybrid (20) graphite S flex. Tour Edge C722 hybrid iron 22 set to 23, KBS 80g graphite S flex.  XXIO X Black Forged irons 6-PW, graphite S flex.  Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5 35" putter or Wilson Infinite Buckingham 35".

Bob Thompson

Mizuno ST-Z 9.5 degree, set at 10 degrees, UST Proforce V2 S flex 45" or Cleveland Launcher XL 9.5 degree, set at 10 degrees, Project X Cypher S flex

Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3 wood, Project X Cypher S flex

XXIO X Black 4 hybrid 20-degree, graphite S flex

Tour Edge C722 4 hybrid set to 23 degrees, KBS 80g graphite S flex

XXIO X Black 5 or 6-PW (sub the 5 iron for the Tour Edge) graphite S flex

Cleveland RTX Zipcore 48, 52, 56, 60, DG Spinner shafts

Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5, 35 inch, Lamkin Sink Fit Pistol Poly grip or Wilson Infinite Buckingham 35" stock grip

Winn DriTac grips on all except XXIOs; using a wrap over stock grips to preserve weighting

Use all for multiple distances, and for chipping try get it rolling as soon as possible, so use many different wedges for chipping too.

I carry four, PW (44 degree) for anything between 130 and 115 yds out, GW (49 deg) for shots from 95-115 yds out, SW (55 deg) for anything between 95 and 70 yds and then my LW (60 deg) for anything closer.  I use my SW around the green too, just enough roll and check unless I'm in a tight spot when I'll use my LW.

I have 5 wedges:

- Pitching, A, Gap, and sand wedge - Callaway Paradym

- 60 degree Taylormade

This is probably too many, once I get on the course more this summer, I will need to test the need for both gap and A wedges.

Bear Down,

Marty

Four. My pitching wedge and gap wedge are essentially my 10 and 11 irons, though I do use the pitching wedge occasionally for 50-70 yard shots. I just replaced my previous sand and lob wedges with Cleveland ZipCore CBX 54* and 60*.  Love them. The 60* is very easy to hit, though I use the 54* 90% of the time around the green. I mainly used the lob when very short-sided or am in a steep bunker.

4 wedges. PW and Gap to that are part of my Mizuno JPX iron set and two Callaway Jaws... 54* and 58*. I'm old ad a short hitter. I use the 58* for greenside bunkers and high shots of 50 yards or less. I use the other three for all kinds of shots... Chips, bump and runs and high pitches. On full or almost full swings, I feel comfortable hitting each one to cover about a 15- 20 yard range

I have 2 wedges and a 10 iron, or 3 wedges, depending whether you think a 45° set PW is a wedge.

I carry 4 wedges.  PW and Gap wedge both are Cobra that came with set.  Then I have 54 and 58 degree Titleist Vokey's to finish it up.

I can hack it up on holes from time to time, with glimpses of brilliance on others.
