Do you really use all 14 clubs in your bag?

Just curious if there any folks here who find themselves playing any given round with fewer than 14 clubs? Or, do any of you carry 14 but realistically use 12 or 13 of them?

Personally, I get my desired yardage gaps by having - on average - 4 to 5 degrees difference in loft among my full swing clubs, and 6 degrees difference among my wedges. All told, I've found that I can play with 12 clubs without feeling that I'm missing anything.

I only use 13 out of 14. The 3W is for decoration purposes.

Carry 14 -- D, 3W, 20* & 24* hybrids, 5-PW, 51, 54, 58 wedges and a putter. Depending on how I'm hitting them, will use most in a round -- 5 & 6 irons see the least work unless hitting into the wind. May hit the 3 wood once or twice a round -- could hit the 20* hybrid instead without any serious trouble on my home course. Not sure what I'd bag instead of a 3-wood -- can't hit a 62 degree wedge to save my life. Actually - now that i think about it, my 9 doesn't get a ton of work on the home course, either. Wonder what that means?

Try to keep a 4* gap in my wedges -- but I like the look of my 51* Solus -- and I scored it new for $30....

I carry 13. So far so good with 13 clubs, even though I could add 60* wedge, however, I don't feel comfortable with that club at all. Rather than carrying a extra club, just deal with 13 clubs.

On any given day? No I generally don't use all 14 clubs often. However as I'm not a member anywhere and thus play a lot of different courses, I end up using all 14 clubs across the courses due to the different designs.

I use to try and bring between 10 and 12 but ended up kicking myself a number of times wanting that extra hybrid or wedge.

I rarely use all 14 in any given round, but use all 14 of my clubs on a regular basis. My least used club is my 18* hybrid, which happens to be one of the clubs I hit the best. My course just does not seem to put me at 210-220 yards very often.

I am like a several members who have posted. I carry 14 clubs but rarely use my 3 Wood. I do not use my 5 Iron that often either. I just love my 4 Hybrid so much that I end up using that instead. The only time I use my 5 is for punching purposes.

Hard to recall the last time that I hit all 14 clubs in a round. I could never hit the 3 wood, so I took it out and just have a 5 wood and 7 wood.

Set up:

D

5w

7w

22* hybrid

25* hybrid

6-P

50*

52*

56*

Putter

Crazy set up, but it's working for me at the moment.

I recently restocked my golf bag(7pm today finished with regripping new clubs). I now use all the clubs in my bag. Except today I did not use the 56 wedge which is not typical. I dropped the 3w in favor of more dependable clubs that give me almost the same distance but with more control. I only used my driver (a very good club for me) 5 times today. One reason for the change was I wanted to stay 130 yards from the green and use the PW and 9 iron instead of partial wedge shots. Shot a 79 so I think I will like the new set up. Also hit the 17* hybrid 235 to the green on a par 4 so no complaints there. (actually I do have one. I hit the 150 pole on my drive and bounced back to 235. Bad luck. )

I'm also considering swapping out my 3W for a 15* hybrid after reading RR's experiment. I suck hitting hybrids too, but a tad better than FW's.

i have nv really used all 14 clubs in a round.

hardly every use the 7,9 iron and probably never use the 60* if the greens are slow and if i avoided sand for the whole round

so realistically only the Driver gets used for long tee shots, 3 wood for the long Par 5

5ironprobably once or twice a round

hybrid 5,3 woods get used on short par 4s

6iron ,8iron for approach shots

pw,for par 4s second shots

gw,sw gets used a fair bit for green side chipping

I just came off a round wherein I used all 14 clubs. It was just one of those days. I got a couple of situations where I needed to use different clubs because of lie or danger at the other end. Cost me a couple of strokes but the day could have been worse, or I might have passed up a couple of heroic shots.

I could get my bag down to 10 if i really wanted to might take some getting used to but it would be possible. Irons would have to be gaped a little differently along with the wedges. Wouldn't be too hard to do.

I don't really use a lot of long irons, 19* hybrid, 4 iron, when I do carry a 3iron which is rare now, they get played maybe one time a round. Normally use Driver / 4 metal for tee box on a regular basis, 19* / 4 iron might be a long par 3 on the course or going for a par 5 in two.

Not really, but most of the ones I don't use too much are iron. For example, I don't like my 9 iron, no idea why. But I'd much rather stand on a PW or punch an 8. You can't really go in to buy a set of iron and ask for special price because you don't want the 5 and 9 irons. Wedges/Woods and Hybrids I all use, otherwise why bother carrying them around.

I have a revolving WITB policy.

Have you checked the loft/lie of your 9 iron? I had the exact same problem only to realize it was off by 2* loft. Also, some sets you can buy clubs individually (TM blades/CB come to mind, I'm sure there are others)

I don't think its yhe loft, it goes about the right the distance, the lie angle might be off a bit. Mainly I don't use because I don't like the way it looks. Strange I know, but thats the way it is. When I'm in the market for new clubs the first club I normally look at is the PW, its amazing how many sets have terrible looking PW's. I'm walked away from a few sets for this reason.

I rarely use my 5w these days but am using and loving my 3w more and more.

My 21 degree hybrid sees regular use, but my 24 degree is only pulled out once in a while.

Outside of that, the rest of my clubs get regular use. Maybe not all in one round, but at least once every week or two.

I will be honest I carry all 14 with a cart, If I'm carrying the bag I jump down to 10. Most of the courses around here are you only need 12 because's none of the courses are really long. I am like most of you with having a pretty 3 wood. But on a lot of shorter Par 4's I will use it or my 5 iron to get the approach shot I want. Good topic thanks!!

Last year I was playing with only 13 clubs because I couldn't find a 3-hybrid that I liked. But I had a gap at that distance and either had to hit one more or one less club depending on the situation. Since then I've found the 3-hybrid I needed, and I also added a 4th wedge. To make room for the 4th wedge, I removed my 2-hybrid because I didn't use it very often after getting the 3-hybrid. I think it really depends on your game, how far you hit each club, and sometimes the course you are playing that determines how many clubs you need.

I definitely have individual distances determined for every club, but I rarely use all 14 in one round. There's one course in my county that typically does require the use of all 14 - it's the toughest I play.

I spy with my little eye something...

Since we are having to play the same 9 two or three times now with the construction we play from different tees. This virtually assures that we will be using different clubs each 9. Also, because I am playing more hybrids off the tee than I do not have just drive and wedge.

If I could afford them, I'd get a set of irons made up like Ryan Moore was using when he was with scratch. The started at 60' and and went up in 5' increments. No numbers stamped on them, just the lofts. So 60, 55, 50, 45, 40 etc. That would be awesome.

I could honestly say I use maybe 11 clubs including the putter. Have a 52 degree wedge I would rather throw in a lake than hit.

There's really only a couple courses that I play regularly that'll cause me to get every club in the bag dirty. I'm pretty long (not only off the tee diceman oh......) so it's normally a driver and 7-lw that gets used. I could probably play the majority of my rounds with ten clubs or less.
