Best club trade in (or for sale of used clubs) website?

Hello all,

I've been following the forums for several months.  Enjoy reading the content and member posts.

Hope to get more active here and eventually become a tester.

Question for the forum:

Any experience with club trade in/sale websites?   What are pro/cons?

Anyone use a brick and mortar place (like play it again sports or other sporting goods or golf store) to sell your old clubs.

I am in the process of upgrading my set and wanted to hear from the forum about this process.

Not sure I want to sell on my own.  Really just want a fair deal and an easy process.

Pro to the trade in sites is that it is really easy…identify what you have and send the clubs.   The con is that the price is low versus what you can sell them for yourself.    Seeking yourself is done on golf sites, Facebook marketplace, or eBay.   eBay has fees with online sites you have to deal with the low ballers and potential scammers.

I have a local store that does trade ins and it works great.  Bring my equipment and I get a store credit.  No ship pin and no fees.   Like the trade in sites value is lower than you could sell them for since they will be reselling after your trade.

Any trade in website you recommend?

I honestly think they are all the same parent company.  If you have specific clubs you want, occasionally the OEM will offer trade in bonuses.

I've used golfstix, swingemagain, and pga value guide.  I generally check all three and see which one has the better values.  Here's some of the trades I've done before.   No complaints on any of the sites.  Swingemagain does occasionally have a 20% bonus on trade ins.

I found golfstix to be a bit higher sell/trade value for my current trade.  I’ll have to check out swingemagain

Some Shops will do trade in Bonus deals. Golftown (Canada) would offer 50% extra value when making a purchase of X amount or more. I used it several times as it brought the value closer to what I could sell on my own. This is usually a spring time thing tho.

Not sure I want to sell on my own.  Really just want a fair deal and an easy process.

E-commerce I've used RockBottomGolf trade program including sending them 200 shag balls for credit. Probably the highest $ value for trades but you need to wait for a sale to get the best price buying things. Always quick processing and fast shipment. Callaway pre-owned has the best prices to buy stuff, moderate values on your trade (maybe the best trade values for Callaway products), but processing takes a long time. Expect to lay out the $ up front and get refunded for the trade months later. Stixvalueguide ? I think is what Sub70 uses on their site. I thought processing was quick but trade values were a little light.

In store, Dick's Sporting Goods/Golf Galaxy offered surprising trade value on the stuff I've brought there, on par with Callaway pre-owned on most items.

I have used 2nd swing and Global Golf. If you can find a company that has a promotion going on where they give you an extra 10 - 20% that helps. None of the companies give you the value you want, just too many used clubs out there. I have sold on e-bay too, but there fees are fairly high. I think you can get more using e-bay.

I consider myself pretty active in selling and trading in my used clubs since I upgrade much more than I should...  I normally sell via FB marketplace since I can get at least 50% more than what any other B&M can offer (PGA superstore, 2nd swing, etc..)  But Callaway is offering 2x for your trade in this month and it was too good to pass up.  I was looking to sell my PXG Gen 4 iron set with Sugar Daddy (Gen 1) wedges and Callaway website was offering more for my Gen 4's than the Gen 5's for some reason.  And with the 2x the trade offer, I am getting more than what I can sell for via FB marketplace.  Basically, their normal trade-in value for my iron set is $500 so they're giving me $1,000 (average selling price on FB is $650).  And for my wedges, their normal trade-in is $120 so I am getting $240 each which is more than their new Jaws Raw wedges.  I guess the caveat is you have to purchase Callaway equipment whether you're a big fan of Callaway or not.  I am super happy with the trade-in value I received for my 2 years used set and I got some brand new Callaway equipment to try!

Wow.  I’ll have to check callaway site.  I am selling callaway irons.  Old, but in above average condition

Buying from Callaway pre-owned is good, you can call and talk to a live person.  E-bay can be time consuming since they don't insure that searchable fields are used or used properly.

I've used ebay for 15 years and thousands of transactions. I've used (tried to use) this site, marketplace, callaway pre-owned, GG, other retailers. All pay less than ebay even with sales fees and charge more for equal product. Regardless of which you use, you must be realistic about the value of what you're selling. Most people aren't and expect near retail for used products.

I have always used my local Edwin Watts. Having built a relationship with them over the years I always get an honest trade in price. If its something they can't give me fair value for (like premium shaft) they will let me know and I normally sell those on Marketplace.
