cksurfdude
Believe it or not, but ... not all the newsletters I receive in my Inbox are about golf - I also like to read about finance and investments, crypto and tech .. including developments in AI. This morning one newsletter mentioned a new AI called "Pi" that wants to be more, literally, personal and ultimately aims to have genuinely human-like, natural conversations. So... I'm conjunction with getting a 9W for the first time plus my curiosity about AI, I decided to ask Pi about practicing with and learning to hit this new to me club! What follows is a screenshot of that dialogue. * Note: yes, a lot of this is somewhat generic and obviously not from a certified PGA pro who's seen me swing. On the whole, imho, most of this is not too bad (again, not specific to me nor my swing) .. and could serve as a useful practice guide. Anyone who's used The Stack or a ShotScope X5 (or I dunno what other products) has already used some AI connected to their golfing. I believe AI is coming into school classrooms in the not too far off future... .. so I'm wondering: do you think there's a place for AI or let's call it AI-assisted, or AI-enhanced, golf instruction..? russtopherb
I had asked Chat GPT a little while back how to improve my driver performance, here's what it told me to do: Improving your driver swing requires practice, patience, and technique. Here are some tips that can help you hit your driver better: 1. Check your stance: Ensure that your feet are shoulder-width apart and that your body weight is evenly distributed between your feet. The ball should be positioned just inside your left heel (for right-handed golfers). 2. Tee height: The ball should be teed up high enough so that the clubface can make contact with the ball on the upswing. The top of the ball should be level with the top of the driver. 3. Check your grip: Make sure your grip is not too tight, and your hands are not too far apart or too close together. 4. Keep your head still: During the swing, keep your head still and focus on the ball. Don't look up too early. 5. Practice your swing: Spend time practicing your swing to improve your technique. Practice with a mirror or a golf coach to help you identify any flaws. 6. Practice with purpose: Focus on hitting the ball straight and with good distance, and aim for a specific target when practicing. 7. Consider taking lessons: A golf professional can help you improve your technique and identify any issues with your swing that may be impacting your driver shot. Remember that improving your driver swing takes time and practice. Be patient and persistent, and you'll see improvements in your game over time. cksurfdude 1 Quote In my carry bag: Mavrik Max 10.5* R Flex Evenflow RipTide Hy-Wood Launcher 5h D7 6i-GW CBX 54* & 58* Huntington Beach #10 e12 Contact CURRENTLY TESTING - Mizuno Long Game

(etc.) Hmm not a "bad" answer from ChatGPT, per se, but I think it will be interesting to see how (not "if" IMO) the use of AI continues to integrate into golf instruction and probably also club fitting. Consider a current case where someone videos their swing, sends it to an instructor, gets feedback .. then goes to work on that feedback. But there's still a disconnect between instructor and student; eg the instructor isn't watching the student at the range in real time and correcting the student if they misapply the change(s) or start to fall back into old habits.... So imagine an AI-powered app that compares what the golfer is doing to what the instructor said to do .. and can offer corrections in real time to get the student to conform to the instruction..? Anyways just a thought experiment at this point...... russtopherb 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... ..Callaway Paradym driver (Aldila Ascent Blue 40/A) ..
