Vice Balls

Recommended Posts

Anyone else seeing the media blitz for Vice balls?  Maybe I unknowingly opened a marketing link but it seems like they are on a HUGE sales campaign at present.  I don't recall but were they in a similar hurt as Snell from the Covid effects on supply chains and pecking order for the manufacturing facilities who makes their respective products?  Also, it seems they've added a couple of models to the line-up... Drive and Zero weren't ones I recall?  The Drive sounds like a Velocity and the Zero a Maxfli Tour?  Pretty healthy discounts when buy 5+ dozen.  I've played the Pro's before and liked them (reported as the PV1 challenger) but wonder about the others... anyone playing them?

Snell’s issues were a combination of material shortages and the circumstances with the Nassau factory (Taylormade’s late-2021 acquisition seemed to have been the main factor for the lack of Snell supply in 2022). Vice’s position at Foremost not to mention the fact that the factory didn’t go through an ownership change put them in a better position even though they did have some supply challenges with their thermoset urethane Pro line during that time (hence the reason why they went to another factory for the TPU Pro Zero which is nothing like the rest of the Pro line).

The Drive is their 2-piece ionomer covered offering and has been around in some form since at least 2015.

I'm not sure it has been a blitz at least on my end. I have always seen a fair bit of their stuff and we see a ton of their golf balls in use here. The price is just too good to pass up compared to others.

The Zero and Drive have been around for a while. The Zero had a Lab done on it not too long ago... it wasnt good. The Drive is a cheaper two piece as you alluded to.

I would say its about par, but if it is this site (the forum) and the ads you may see here I know that the ads are more targeted so they should be a bit more relevant to golf than before.

Maybe there is more of a push states side?

I have been seeing the Vice Golf online pop up ads virtually everywhere! Perhaps this is because I looked up Vice Golf online a couple weeks ago and ordered some golf balls from them.

Among the Vice golf balls that I purchased was a 10-ball sampler pack (2 each of their 5 different ball models). I also ordered a dozen of the Vice Pro balls in the two-tone bright orange “sunset” color.  So far, the Vice Pro Plus is far-and-away my favorite ball in their lineup. I also like the Pro model, but I am not a big fan of the two-tone orange color.

If I order more Vice golf balls, it will definitely be the Pro Plus model.

I bought a doz of the Zero balls and definitely didn't like them. They scuffed up more than the Pro's which is my normal gamer and seemed be to be off track more often. Guess lucky for me I lost most of that doz to the woods and water hazards. so back to the Pro's.

The Zero is still available and a current model here. Again maybe different in the US, but MGS did also just run a Lab on it so makes me think it is still a current model unless its score on the Lab changed their minds about it!

It is, because every time I use their ball fitting tool, the PRO Zero is the recommendation.

I’ve used the Pro, Pro Plus, Pro Soft and Zero. The Pro and Pro Plus are pretty good in my book. I like the feel and performance from both of them and would have no issues playing with either of them. The Pro Soft was decent but didn’t perform as well for me as the other two.

The Zero on the other hand was exactly that, a zero. Did not like anything about that ball. Feel off of all clubs was not pleasing and performance was less than ideal. The Zero is definitely not at the same level as the other Pro series from Vice.

I have not tried the Drive so no experience there.

I put three into the water today… None of them knew how to swim. As least they didn’t rile any alligators that may have been squatting and soaking in the water hazards.

I believe it is their normal marketing. They do a ton of online ads once you visit their site or search for anything golf really!

I did the same sampler pack. Pro Plus was the best in my opinion too. Pro wasn’t bad. The rest were good balls but lower spin, or seemed like it to me.

I have been playing Vice golf balls for about three or four years now and I can say that the Pro Plus is the best ball of the bunch. I have some Pro Zero balls right now and don't love them. I will definitely pay a little extra money to play the Pro or Pro Plus in the future.

both that and the pro are good balls.  I stopped playing them when they started raising the price to premium non DTC price levels.  At that point they lost me.  Like sorry they are good, but the whole point of you was to be cheaper AND good.

I will say however they have the BEST color for a ball ever.  That lime green is just *chefs kiss* perfection.  So easy to spot and track in the air.

In the big box stores; Walmart etc. they're expensive - last time I looked $38. US. I buy them when they have their 5+1 special - the 5 doz are at $29 plus you get thee 6th free.

I did not like the Zero's either.  The Pro Plus has been a go to, but I am trying out some Pro Softs when I play tomorrow, see if it makes a difference off the tee since my driver speed is somewhat low right now

  • 2 weeks later...

I started out playing their Tour ball when I started golfing again last year, and as I started not losing as many, I thought I would take a half-step up and go with the Zero.  I can't lose those ones fast enough.  They felt better on the green than the Tour (ionomer v. urethane I guess) but I felt like I lost distance off the tee compared with the Tour.  Then MGS does their review of the Zero, and that pretty much ruined it for me.  To think a full 25% of them aren't round really messed with my head.  I've found a few Pro's and Pro +'s and played them.  They seemed pretty good, but most of the ones I find are odd colors or drips and I just want to play a normal white ball.  I am gonna give the Snell test pack a try before I buy my next round of Vice, and I would probably go with the Pro + in the future.  Also, I am not buying any more balls until the 2023 ball test results are released to prevent another situation where I have a bunch of stuff I don't trust anymore.

I’m playing the Pro right now and I’d definitely give them and the Pro Plus some consideration despite your issues with the Zero. The Pro is a better fit for me as I lean towards the softer ones (non-X versions of ProV1 and Srixon ZStar). The zero is made in a different factory and they are known to have some issues. I’m actually surprised they haven’t pulled that series from the site. I tried the latest Snell test pack and the Prime is definitely softer feeling than the old MTB Blacks which is what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, I found both of the Snell balls to be pretty poor in terms of durability. Not even close to being on the level of the Vice Pro/Pro Plus or a ProV1/ProV1x. I had to demote one of the Primes to the side pocket of the bag after one shot with a 13 y/o SW. Chewed up bad.

For the availability and price, its probably one of my go-to balls. Mark up pretty quickly especially it your spinning your wedges or full wedge shots but price-playability isnt bad at all

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

Both. I like the drip as I can look at a certain spot or drip to focus on no matter where or how the ball is.

It has played really well do far too. Good feel, control, distance etc.

Both. I like the drip as I can look at a certain spot or drip to focus on no matter where or how the ball is.

It has played really well do far too. Good feel, control, distance etc.

Out of curiosity, how do you account for the percentage of bad balls? I liked the Vice sampler pack and had plans to go with them…until the MGS ball lab showed how a percentage of Vice balls were off center, not round, etc.

There hasn't been a ball lab on the pro plus so not sure how good or bad it would be.

The pro was decent. I would like to think the pro plus being their premium ball would have better tolerance.

I tried the Vice Pro Zero and did not get along  with them at all. Wedges sounded clicky and didn’t feel nice. Drives were significantly shorter. And even putts didn’t seem to roll very true.
I am now gaming the Vice Pro drip and am liking them a lot. I really like the sound and feel off wedges and the putter. My drives haven’t been as good for some reason, but I just shot my lowest score since becoming a forum member with them. I also like that people are always asking about the drip colorwave. I know that yellow balls have a different chemistry to white balls and I’m curious about the drip.

This is really the only thing I’ve been concerned about when playing with the Vice Pro balls. I’ve gone through two sleeves from two different boxes and haven’t seen any issues, so fingers crossed that I got “good” balls!

Fair. I guess enough Vice result had me correlating it to Vice Pro Plus too. Was Vice Pro Plus in this year’s recent ball tests?

@jbern fair! In my Vice sampler I don’t know that I felt I had any bad ones. I did a Snell sampler too. I definitely had bad Snells. The tell to me was the extreme slice off the tee. I couldn’t hit the ball even remotely straight or draw, so I figured a bad ball. I can’t say I’m good at golf and have a slice sometimes, but not as extreme as that ball was doing!
