New Level Golf 902 irons forgiveness and shafts

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I started golfing 2 years ago, and at the beginning, I knew nothing about it, so I purchased Titleist T100s (2019) which were not suited to my level at all. Now I am a 15 handicap but still have a lot of trouble with my irons; they are my weak point.

So, I'm looking for more forgiving irons and am considering New Level Golf 902. I'm torn between the 902-PD and the 902-OS, what do you recommend? Do you think this golf clubs change will impact my game?

My T100 have a Project X LZ 5.5 shaft, but I was fitted with Nippon Modus 105 Stiff. Do you think I could keep the same shafts? In that case, I would only order the heads, but as I need to have +1/2 inch, would that be a problem?

Thank you for your advice and opinions as I feel lost 🙂

From my experience, limited as it is. I would recommend going for a fitting.  Try not to arrive with any particular clubs in mind, but listen to the fitter.

Do you have a certain budget you are looking to stay within?

Thanks for answering, yeah I guess the player is more important than the sticks. Did a fitting but it is out of budget for me to buy a T200 irons series 🙂

Within that range you should have a variety of options. There are a ton of DTC brands out there. The Takomo lineup was tester and reviewed part of our member testing, Caley is another one which we have for member testing, sub70... trouble with DTC is it is hard to get fit. Sub70 offers a demo program worth checking out. However if you go to a center and get fit into something you will likely find the shaft that you like (105 modus is a great option IMO).

Check out some of the reviews and maybe those will help! If it were me I would be leaning towards the Takomo 101t or the Caley 01 or Sub70 659 CBs or 699 pros.

Thanks !

Demo programs are great even though being outside of the US doesn't help.

The thing is the New Level Golf have been well ranked the past 2 years in the players distance category, thanks to their forgiveness. That's why I'm thinking about them.

Why do you like the 105 modus ?

Just realized you're in France... not too far from me all things considered.

It is just a shaft I have really gotten along with. I have had it in a few sets of irons and its just worked well for me. Great feel and timing for my swing. There are a lot of modus fans here.

Being here in Europe definitely check out Takomo as they are a Finnish company.

Thanks, I will definitely have a look at Takomo.

But I never see them ranked in MyGolfSpy buyers guide...

They are relatively new and only just put in clubs this season for testing. They ranked 3rd for the players irons this season.

I just finished writing the recap for the main site on our member test and they got some of the highest grades from our community testing we have seen.

I have had the older 902 irons in my bag for my 6 and 5 irons for a few years. I have them with TT x100 120s, which have been fine, but I don’t have much advice to offer with shafts.

I really like them for the feel and the look. I can’t say that they are especially forgiving irons though. They aren’t blades, but the forgiveness in them comes from their shape, not any special materials like tungsten or ‘speed foam’. I love them for the consistency, but not necessarily the distance or off-center forgiveness.

Have you thought about getting a used version of something to save money?

It's crazy because 902 irons are considered as the most forgiving clubs in the players distance category by MGS. But all of you are saying that I won't see much differences from my T100 😂 so I'm even considering buying clubs now

Yeah I could buy some used club but I need it to be +1/2 inch and 2° upright
