G’day golfers,

Here we are, the final tournament before the FedEx playoffs begin and the field is limited to the top 70 FedEx Cup players. The season this year has gone so quickly, it almost feels like last week we had the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and now we’ve had all of the majors and we’re about to go into the last regular season event.

My, how time flies!

This week we’re teeing it up at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina.

The Wyndham Championship is held at Sedgefield Country Club, a par 70, 7,131-yard course.

The course was open in the 1920’s and features plenty of small and undulating greens, it has had plenty of changes throughout the years, but, was restored to the original Ross design in 2007 and lengthened to accommodate the PGA TOUR.
The last few years, the pro’s have dominated this course with a typical winning score being -20 or under.

Last year, Tom Kim announced his arrival on the Tour with an amazing 5 shot win over his rivals, gaining him instant PGA Tour status and cementing his entry into the FedEx playoffs the following week.
With his win last year, Kim became the first player born after the year 2000 to win on the PGA Tour. How old does that make you feel?
His tournament opened last year in one of the worst ways possible, a quad-8 on the opening par-4. But, you gotta give Tom Kim his props, he never gave up and came back to win by 5.
That’s a winners mentality if I’ve ever seen one.
Unfortunately, Tom Kim will not be back to defend his title this week; he picked up a Grade 1 tear in his right ankle at The Open Championship – where he ground out a tie for second.

Field Highlights

·         Si Woo Kim – Kim is safely into the FedEx playoffs next week with a current ranking of 18th. He had a win back in January at The Sony Open in Hawaii. This has been the bulk of his points this season, since his win he has only had 3 top-10 finished in 19 tournaments, including missing-the-cut in the last 2 events. Si Woo Kim comes into this tournament as the highest-ranked player in the OWGR rankings.

·         Sam Burns – Burns is another that is already well into next week; his current rank is 19th. Burns has also already had a win this year at the WGC Match play back in March, but like Kim, he hasn’t had many top-10’s since his win. His best result came at the Charles Schwab with a T-6. It’s worth noting he missed the cut at his last event, which was The Open championship.

·         Adam Schenk – Schenk has been fairly close to a win on the PGA Tour this season with 2 runner up finishes, however, this has been enough to see him currently ranked as 23rd in the FedEx Cup rankings and safe into next week. Schenk has played a lot of golf this year with 29 events and he’s made the cut in 17 of them. His recent form has been CUT, T-4, 7, CUT, CUT, T-7, 2, so a bit of a mixed bag, but a positive one….. when he makes the cut.

·         Shane Lowry – Lowry needs a good result this weekend as he currently sit outside of the top 75 in the FedEx cup ranking, if only by the smallest margin; he is currently ranked 76th. So far this year, he’s played in 17 events but only missed 3 cuts. Looking through his results on the PGA Tour he had been mid-table quite a lot this year, which would explain his current FedEx Cup ranking.

·         Hideki Matsuyama – Matsuyama is currently safe into next week with a rank of 56th on the FedEx cup rankings, however, he not had a stellar season. He’s had 2 top-10’s and and 10 top-25’s in 22 rounds. Matsuyama’s big issue this year has been putting, like Scottie Scheffler, if he can sort that out he’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

The rest of the field can be found here.

Golfers, that’s it from me. This is a round where there are not a lot of the higher-ranked players attending because they’ve already qualified for next week, but this week never disappoints in action with players fighting to make the playoffs next week.

One fantasy league I locked up first after the open so don't need any wins here and the other I'm a good 10 plus million behind so no chance... These events end of season end of major season I feel bad for.

Thankfully a few top names there to drive some traffic and hopefully tune in to watch.

I probably will a bit given f1 is on summer break.

As your have all year @Splatt awesome job with another stellar writeup!

As much as a Russell Henley win would be great, I'm kind of hoping Lucas Glover can break the long drought.  His switch to the broom-stick putter has been magical... almost completely curing his long term ailment with short-putt-itis.
