50th B-Day Trip?

Ok, so next May I hit the big 5-0. I want to do something that I'd likely never really do again, within reason/time/money. I'm saving something like a trip to golf in Scotland until I actually have the time to do it right, so this is more about a long weekend in May (~4 days total). I have a few items I've come up with already, but am curious to know if anyone here has done these or if there are other similar activities I should consider in my list. I've done fittings at PXG Scottsdale already, so that's really not on my radar unless I'm invited to Scottsdale National to stay and fit.

- Long weekend at Titleist Performance Institute (Oceanside, CA), full-bag fitting only.
- Long weekend at Sub70's The Seventy, full-bag fitting and golf.
- Long weekend at TXG Toronto, full bag fitting only.
- Long weekend in Scottsdale at Cool Clubs or True Spec, full bag fitting and maybe golf.
- Full bag fitting at Knoxville Club Champion, with lots of golf at Fairfield Glade (here where I live).

Those first 4 are more about the experience and not about buying a full bag of clubs. The last one is more likely about clubs and lots of golf over the long weekend. But likely in all instances I'd take the specs and go search for deals on clubs based on recommendations from the fitting.

I realize this is 9 months away, but I'd prefer to start planning now as some of these options will require travel and potentially booking the fitting out a ways.

So what are your thoughts either on the list or on other options?

Congratulations on turning 50 (next May).  I turn 60 in two years and I too am planning on a golf trip to Scotland.  But I also want to play some courses in Hilton Head.  Given you are in Tenn, that would be a close trip.  Maybe a course in Hilton Head followed by Bethpage Black.   There is always the classic, Pebble Beach but that might be difficult and expensive.

I would prioritize an outdoor fitting over an indoor fitting, all other things being equal. I don't love an indoor fitting as I think turf interaction matters quite a bit for wedges and irons. TPI sounds cool for sure.

Would love to hear about the Sub 70 setup AND Chicago-land has a ton of affordable golf courses to play.

Going to The Seventy is what started this whole discussion. I play Sub70 woods/hybrids/wedges/putter now and have a set of irons I'm going to test out. But as you mentioned, fitting outside off turf is a big deal compared to inside off a mat which is where TPI came into my brain. Plus the whole idea of fitting at TPI is kind of a big deal, at least it would be for me. 🙂 The downside of Sub70 or TPI would be just a single brand fitting. Club Champion / TXG would be an open brand fitting and TXG does do outdoor fittings at Pulpit (I think that's what it's called) although I don't know what times of year. I'm leaning TPI right now, but I need to work on my swing and weight between now and then to make the trip truly worth it.
