Good poll. With an insert, I feel like I have trouble gauging distance by feel. Putting a Wilson Zip with a 2ball was almost like putting without a ball being there.

Milled metal face for me with a sound slot for tone.

Same with me. I have an old Nike OZ Black and I had to stop using it a couple of years ago because I just could not feel how long it was going. I don't want my putter to feel muted, I want to know when I mis-hit it.

That says it all for me, too.

But milling the center area of the face in a different way to provide a softer feel is something I like for stainless steel putters.

What are you rolling here? Yes grooves? or some of the fancy milling centers from betti and others.

Dave, this Kevin Burns 705 model is what I had in mind (and what I'm currently rolling)

Beautiful. And you can tell the feel difference from the milling, or do you think it is the cavity behind the milling too.

The milling definitely makes the putter feel as though it's made of carbon steel - not stainless.

Tim, the weight can be customized an individual basis in 5 gram increments, from 320 to 360 grams.

Like the Mizuno Bettinardi CB series. Sorry if I compare everything to that.

I'd like to hear from the 1 person (so far) who voted for insert.

Currently insert for me, although I am not using it because of insert. Started making putts with it, so it'll stay in the bag a while!

which putter?

I'm a die hard Bettinardi fan. Soft, yet you can feel mishits. It's sad that no one else will even give mizuno a chance when it comes to putters

I had a C01 heavy that was quite nice and can be found for a steal these days. You are absolutely right that people should look for these. It is probably the best budget putter out there right now, IMO.

I prefer no insert, no chance though on a rubber. Quite liked the couple of metal one's I've had. One of the guys I play with has an STX, it's like putting with a marshmallow on a stick.

I have a revolving WITB policy.

Very true, and a lot of the ones that he made for Mizuno can be had for $100-150, or at least that is what I've seen.

I played the TaylorMade Rosa Monza (the original) for a couple of seasons. I haven't found an insert I like since. The FIT Face stuff Bettinardi did with Mizuno made for the best feeling putter IMHO.

Is anyone using the non-insert Odyssey black? Either the original or new series? Original #2 for me for a while, liked the feel, but it was too light. Curious about the new line.

Well I play golf year around so to start my 2010 season I was using a Odyssey White Hot XG and about 4 weeks ago I got my Scotty. I will never go back to a insert putter. I love the feed back that I get from a milled faced putter and not only does it feel better but the putts sound better to me.

I could never find the older ones, but the new non-insert black serie is really nice in my experience. It has very deep mill lines, which, from what I've heard, makes the feel better.

I prefer a non-insert putter; I like milled steel. Not that I generally hit my putts too far off the sweet spot, but I don't like the idea of potentially hitting the ball half on the insert and half off.

Not questioning your putting skill :) , but did you ever miss like Matt worried about missing above. I wondered about this too, but the Odyssey inset seems too big for this to happen.

Ugh, STX. Those got a lot of buzz at one point. The Anti-Christ of insert putters. Just horrible.
