ejgaudette
Just wrapped up listening to the Trap Draw goal podcast which was a good listen and gave me some good ideas so I decided to knock out some goals for myself for the next year and see how it goes. Have never really been a big goal setter but it might be worth a shot, and tried to make a mix of process and results goals as I know process is important but still want to pass the test as well. Paul Hedrick
For myself, I would like what I have wanted every year: to play better then the previous year. To achieve that I believe I need: Longer drives. I did increase my drives with a change in ball, and my new driver seems to have helped, but I have only played on round with it s far. Significantly better wedge play. Wedges have always been my weak area. Find a club that hits between my driver and 5 wood. I just could not hit my 3 wood, so I sold it. Oh, if I could achieve a handicap under 10, I wouldn't complain. In the past I have come close, but it has so far eluded me. Billy-Bo-Jim-Bob
Any suggestions on game tracking stats to keep? What are you all doing to track/improve your game? My stats from '23 below. Well, seems to be that I need to improve in just about all areas. Really glad to have the GHIN tracking to break it all down. Wish there were a few more stats on the APP, but overall I think it gives enough to see the opportunities in my game. The stats don't lie.... Driving: Need to work on club path to reduce L-R and hit more fairways. I'm not in trouble or OB a lot, but hit a lot of approaches from the rough. Irons: Same as driver....out/in path and occasional fat is causing high % short/right outcomes. Chipping: With the low GIR % last year I really need to be sharper. Need to work on using bounce more to get more consistent strikes. Need to focus more on landing point and visualize the shot. Putting: Too many long putts (I think)....improved GIR and better proximity on chips should naturally improve this. Distance control on putts is good from 20 and in....I think. Wish I knew my proximity stats on chips, so I could see how its impacting my putting stats. My gut tells me I'll get more out of practicing chips, then putting.....so that's what I plan to do. 2024 Goals: Driving: 50+% fairways. Missed L&R within 5% of each other. Irons: 60%+GIR. <10% short and missing L same % or higher than missing right. Putts: 31, with 3 putts below 5%. HCP Result: If I can improve on above stuff, HCP by end of season should definitely be <5. Golf Dawg
Trying to negotiate the financial transition to retirement with a few health issues, my golf time has diminished over the last two years. But the fun I have, even with inconsistent play, increased. It’s for fun, fresh air and exercise these days. I ended 2023 with 14 rounds played and my handicap rising 5.2 to 21.9 (Arccos). My 2024 goals: 1) Play more golf. At least 20 full rounds. 2) Get back to 17 handicap. 3) Get more “feels” and less over thinking. Like the commercial said “just hit the ball.” 4) Get back to my fighting weight. I play/feel better when lighter. Need to get rid of the 45 lbs I’ve put on in the last 2 yrs. 5) Have MORE fun. Meaning, I consider it a fairway hit if I’m just off the fairway but still have a really good lie. Similarly, if I muff a drive and just barely reach the start of the fairway then I only count it if I still have a chance to reach the green with an iron. My rationale is the main purpose of counting fairways hit is to know how often your tee shot puts you in a good/scoring position. Doing this for a few months really changed the way I mentally approached the game and resulted in legitimately hitting more fairways. I have done the same thing with putting too. If I’m on the fringe but the fringe is cut so short that it doesn’t impair the putt then I’ll count it as a GIR. I don’t do these to pad my stats. If you are a member and play the same course all the time, what I like to do is keep my scoring average per hole, luckily, our men's league uses Golf Genius so our data is tracked for our weekly 9 hole matches so I can compare my hole scores versus the rest of the league. Example below. So i need to focus on hole 4 and 6 this year. I did this same process last year and i was scoring an average of 5 on 16 & 17 so i started hitting 7 wood off the tee and leaving myself a 100 yards and i reduced my scoring on those 2 holes. Then I like to look at my par 3, 4, and 5 scoring versus other 11 handicaps and better players to see where i need to improve. HeathS16
Goals for this year: 1. Play more. 2. Decrease my index to 2. 3. Play in at least 2 competitive tournaments. 4. Look into Oklahoma Am qualifications and/or US Mid-Am Quals if I can get my index lowered. 5. Stick to a weekly practice routine. Good luck on your goals everyone! Kevin W
Hello everyone. For me basic things: hit more greens in regulation, cut "out of bounds" out altogether or close to it. I drive the ball really well but my score isn't reflecting that fact right now. Don't hit enough greens in regulation from the fairway. I need to work on my course strategy more as I don't plan my way around the course well enough. Course strategy is gonna maybe be my biggest focus. Above all else, Having lots of FUN! RangerGrey
Most of all I want to stay healthy for 2024 as I'm not a spring chicken anymore so my list is pretty reasonable for someone who has a serious addiction to golf Haha 1. Have more fun 2. Golf more with my wife 3. Play more golf 4. Drive at least 2-3 par 4's 5. Get 2-3 eagles 6. Find the fairway more often 7. Hit more greens 8. Make more putts 9. keep more of my scores in the 70's 10. No buying or selling golf clubs for 2024 (which have been the hardest thing for me to do over the last 5 years Lol) Donn lost in San Diego, Dweed, William P and 5 others 7 1 Quote Driver: GT2 9* w/ ARETERA Alpha One Blue 55-3 3W : GT 2 13.5* W/ Graphite Design Tour AD-VF 5 5W Qi10 w/ NX Speeder TCS 5 4H: Qi10 w/ NX Speeder TCS 5 5 thru PW : i530 5-PW w/ AXIOM 75 shafts Wedges: RTX 6 Full face 48*, 54* w/ i95 SteelFiber shafts Puter: GREEN DF3 w/Black 34" w/ BGT Stability ONE w/Press II 3 grip (Back-up) E2 34" w/ BGT Stability Fire shaft midsize Black Pure Grip Bag: FOLDS of HONOR Link to comment
