One of the surgeons I called-on in San Antonio has just opened-up a Whiskey distillery downtown San Antonio, just two blocks from the Alamo. I talked with him about it at his office and he found the recipe for the whiskey in an old family diary. He distilled it at home to try it, and decided to go all-in. He said he’s not planning on going the Tito’s route and go big, he likes being a surgeon. They have two whiskeys and a gin now, and the bourbon will be ready in two years. Looks like they serve food as well if you’re at the location.

Here’s the website. I REALLY like the label. Lots of San Antonio history with the Maverick family!

Drinking home made apple wine... It's not normal strength wine you must drink it cold or you taste nothing but alcohol. Once cold though my goodness is it good sh*t.

A nice quaff with pizza at Mcmenamin’s in Corvallis, OR
Mcmenamin’s is located where the donut shoppe used to be across the street from the Chemistry Building at Oregon State University. I spent a LOT of time in both locations in the 1960’s.

Just a question. Today, I played and drank zero beers. I've played rounds where I've drank a beer a hole. I try to restrict my drinking and playing to temps below 85 degrees. If its above I usually will stick with water. Sure exceptions are made, matter of fact when I go to Tampa in a few weeks I'll likely drink a few while I play with Rev. But that withstanding, my break even outside temp is 85. I wear pants a lot of times when I play and sweat more than most because of that, so I want to make sure I stay hydrated. I've found that there's no real way to say if I play better or worse. I've shot par drinking and I've blown past 90. But theres no regularity to my scores while drinking.

So do you or don't you drink while playing and why or why not? Just curious if others observe the temperature rule. I'm sure we have some that don't drink at all, while on the course or off.

I usually drink beer no matter the temp. I definitely score better if I don't drink. I just don't care. I'm out having a good time. I could be a solid 7/8 handicap if I refrained.... I just don't care at this point in my life.

Let us know what you think. It sounds kind of like Stranahan's.

It was a bit of a pleasingly odd mix. The smoke from the scotch, the sweetness from bourbon, and it mellowed out with the Port Cask finish. Need to try it a few more times to get a better idea of the complexity.

Never had stranahans, though, so I'll keep an eye out to try it.
