I've been working quite a bit of overtime lately, so, I decided to treat myself to a past favorite this afternoon. I picked up a bottle of the 2018 version of Booker's Bourbon. This s**** is even better than I remember!

I haven't tried Booker's yet, but I emptied my bottle of 1792 Bourbon Port Finish last week.  I guess I need to get a bottle.

Yike's!  Booker's must be really great; prices are high here in WA with the taxes, but that one is up there.  So, thought I'd get another bottle of 1792 port finish... dang! They didn't have a bottle, so I bought a bottle of Angel's Envy port finish.  Not bad, but I like the 1792 better.

Bookers used to be in the $60-$65 range but is slowly moving to a scheduled $99 price per bottle. Supposed to take a couple years to get there though. Currently it's $75 here in IN

Just finished racking my wine made from my backyard vineyard, prior to bottling in the next couple of weeks. Ended up with 110 litres, which is 144 bottles. Had enough left over for a glass with lunch.

 

Officially it's a glass of Peacock Vineyard 2017 Shiraz, the name may change depending on how smug I'm feeling

I haven't had Pappy since the hipsters discovered bourbon. No way I can afford it now... or even find it.

I'm sticking with Buffalo Trace, the poor mans Pappy! It's the same formula, just not aged as long.

Pappy isn't Pappy anymore... at least not like it was. Pappy was distilled at Stitzel Weller, which is now closed. Buffalo Trace bought the recipe and has been producing it for several years,now. The last of the SW juice ran out a few years ago, so it's all BT juice now.

I had several fingers of Hakushu 12 last night in celebration of my first 9 holes of the season. It's one of two single malt offerings from House of Suntory's Mt. Kaikomagatake distillery, the other being an 18 year. Located deep in the Southern Japanese Alps, Hakushu is one of the highest altitude distilleries in the world and the only highland whisky from Japan. Delicate with a fresh herbal palette and gentle smoky finish; Suntory claims the key is very soft mountain headwaters, granite filtered over eons. I'm not the impetuous type and shouldn't jump to conclusions but it might be new favorite highland. I need to give it an extensive side-by-side with the Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition. Should be a fun tasting session.

Not tonight, but today during my round. Mountain Goat Fancy Pants. A really solid Amber Ale. Rich malty with a fresh aromatic hoppy finish. I'm not sure why it appealed to me, but it lived up to my expectations.
