Bandon Dunes Courses for Caddies

I am heading on a two man trip to Bandon in May. A couple questions for the Bandon Experts out there:

1. We are playing all 5 course but don't want to shell out the dough for caddies for all 5 rounds (I know everyone says to do so) what two course would you pick to have caddies on?

2. Anyone else gone in May and if so what kind of weather did you encounter?

3. Has anyone tried the new Ghost Grill steakhouse? Was it worth it?

4. Any other tips for a Bandon newbie?

I think Bandon will provide a 'group' caddy. A group caddy does not carry a bag but walks with the group and provides advice to all in the group. At the end of the round, each player gives caddy a gratuity. Caddies are an enormous asset on Bandon courses not just for reading putts but also target lines for tee shots along with knowledge of where you can miss and/or not miss.

Do we know if they rent push-carts?  Not sure I actually want to carry my bag for 18-36 holes a day 😉 I'll bring my own if I end up driving up, but ... honestly love the idea of a group caddie, too - especially if they'll keep giving @Ben Joest and @GolfSpy_BNG wrong distances. If they won't give me strokes, I'll have to collect them the old fashioned way: cheating.

I believe they do rent push carts, per @Getoffmylawn's initial info. Also, since I plan to be no less than a 12 handicap by the time we reach Bandon, it will be you giving me strokes, Mr. Single Digit Handicap... 😂

1. I think Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes makes the most sense, but I agree having someone accompany you is helpful for all your rounds.  The aspect that people don’t realize is that with the strong winds found on the course on most days, judging yardage is hard and it depends greatly on trajectory.

2. Not sure if it’s normal or not, but I thought we had pretty good weather in mid May when we were there.

4. The caddies are for the most part very good golfers and have great local knowledge.  But it’s also the stories they tell and the fun atmosphere they create which makes a round at Bandon so much fun.  Tip them well, they deserve it.

I’m shooting for a 36 handicap. It’s a tall order from basically scratch but I think it’s doable by 2026. Gotta get them strokes

1.) If you are only getting a caddie for 2 rounds, I would pick Old Mac and Trails.  They are the longest and most difficult walks on the property. Also, some of the lines on Trails are incredibly deceiving from the tee and caddie will make picking the correct start line easier.

2.) I have played rounds here throughout the year. You can get amazing weather, and it can also be dreadful.  Pack for everything. If you have several sets of rain gear, bring them. I literally got home from the resort on Tuesday morning, and wore 3 rain jackets and 2 pair of rain pants in 3 days.  My shoes are still wet today.... ( I wore 4 different pairs).

3.) Not yet.  It will be worth it. The food on property is all good. Don't miss the meatloaf at McKees.

4.) Don't take an umbrella. You will spend more time chasing than standing under it. If you have a chance, book a bunker lesson from Grant Rogers. He is the Director of Instruction at the resort and a legend. Could end up being the highlight of the trip. Just watching him flip bunker shots at the practice center is magic.
