Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Well I got some comparison data and a round in at my local simulator. Had an hour and spent the first 25-30 hitting with the MEVO+ going and what they had which is AboutGolf. I have always found the AboutGolf to be fairly accurate when playing there. But I feel the same about the MEVO+. I will have all the data when I get it fully broken down and put into an excel sheet (because the AboutGolf only game me averages over the swings and flight patterns, need to get it into an excel next to the MEVO+ data). I was not able to use the RCT balls with the AboutGolf so with that being said I am taking the MEVO+ data with a grain of salt and if I was able to use the RCT I think data would have been closer. Here is what I found with quick glances between the two, I hit Driver/4 Iron/8 Iron and 48* between 5-10 shots with each. -MEVO+ consistently shorter by maybe 5-10 yards on both carry and total distance -Lower spin on the MEVO+ again I think this is alot to do with not using the RCT balls or being able to have a sticker on the ball. -Swing speed, ball speed and smash all very simliar -Ball flight, very simliar Like I said will be diving into this more on the final review but thats my quick snippet first glance. Owengeorge13
So today was my first day using the (reg) mevo. I was pretty impressed with the easy set up, along with the compact size. I went to my empty golf course and hit balls on a fairway. I had ten golf balls, I didn’t use any of the stickers today, but the data was still great. The unit is everything I’m looking for on a budget. The only thing I’m disappointed by is that it doesn’t have a speed training setting. I hit around 100 balls. The data seemed spot on from what i see from a hitting bay I go to. I do put up a net set up in my garage starting in the spring. I usually use the yellow foam balls and concentrate on form. I may have to start using real balls now and start looking at the data. The first review I saw on this model was done by Jnoble I believe, and it was fantastic. I have followed everyone else’s write ups on the unit since, with them all being great on this thread. Looking forward to making gains in the next month! For anyone looking for a “more affordable unit” take a look at the Mevo. I’ll keep you posted on its long term effectiveness. Signing out for now Owengeorge13. Popular Post sirchunksalot
First off, @Owengeorge13 congratulations on getting the Mevo! I think you'll find it to be fun and most importantly, informative in improving your game. I meant to post up yesterday but I got home late and was tired and had to rush to do all my nightly things to get ready for work this morning. Me and a couple of my friends went to the range yesterday, they haven't practiced much in the winter season and I thought inviting them to go hit might motivate them to get out and swing their clubs. We all bought a couple of small buckets to go through and after warming up, I set up the Mevo and started gathering information. I was hitting the ball fairly good yesterday, but my contact still left something to be desired. I hit a lot of balls a little fat which led to some chunks and thins. The thing I like about the Mevo is how you can take in the information and see how close you are to getting better. I know I've said this a lot, but for me seeing my clubhead speed inch up gives me hope that I'm close to playing good golf. They're not spectacular numbers, but knowing the potential there I'm excited to get out and practice more and really want to play to see how it goes. I believe this was the first time I was really able to get accurate numbers with the driver since I was able to tee the ball up in the grass and get the height of the ball where I would on the course. My ball striking was somewhat consistent and I just wish one of these marks was out of the center. I did see a few misreads with the driver, I actually saw the first shot register as I was teeing the ball up. I don't know if it just picked up the flight of my buddy hitting next to me or what, it's just a little strange. I did mark those that were off with the red pen. I also saw some strange numbers with the 8 iron where it didn't register club speed, smash, and had ridiculously low spin. I was hitting range balls without stickers or markers. I feel a little more comfortable marking the balls at my home range since a lot of them are previously lost balls and have marks already on them. I invited my friends to give it a try and they both were impressed how such a small unit packed so much information. One even asked me how much they cost at work today. cnosil, Josh Parker, jbern and 9 others 6
jbern
On 2/3/2024 at 1:38 PM, Byrnzee said: Trackman vs. Mevo Test I was able to gather a bunch of data the other day at a simulator to try and do a heads-up comparison between a Trackman monitor and the Mevo. I decided to build some graphs to hopefully give everyone a sense of how large (or small) the differences are between the two devices. The first six graphs below are comparing 12 shots with my 8-iron. I decided to compare Carry Distance, Club Speed, Ball Speed, Smash Factor, and Spin Rate. These 5 metrics were available on both devices and were easily comparable. I gathered this data with several clubs: Driver, 3-wood, 5-iron, 8-iron and 54º Wedge. I decided to choose my 8-iron to showcase this data because the variances were smaller and you were able to get a good sense of the differences. Carry Distance: As you can see from the Carry Distance graph, the data is pretty consistent between the two devices. This will become a common theme amongst the remaining data metrics, but the Mevo tends to slightly overstate the data compared to the Trackman. Club Speed: Club Speed is a metric that remains fairly consistent from shot to shot. However, the Mevo once again seems to slightly overstate the speed compared to the Trackman. It's a fairly negligible difference (avg. of 80mph for the Mevo compared to 77mph for the Trackman), but still worth noting. Ball Speed: I was very impressed with the consistency of the Ball Speed data between the Trackman and Mevo. Although once again the Mevo seems to be slightly overstating the data, the side-by-side comparison is almost identical in shape. Smash Factor: Smash Factor isn't a datapoint I pay too much attention to, but it is interesting to note that Mevo actually understated this value in comparison to the Trackman. Once again you can see that the data is very close between the two devices - typically less than .05 difference. Spin Rate: Not sure what happened on that 12th shot, but you can see that there are several shots (1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 10) that actually appear to have identical spin rates between the two devices. Very impressive to see the Mevo hold its own against the Trackman in this area. Average Carry Distance: I also decided to put together a bar graph showing the difference between all of my clubs hit during this session (Driver, 3-Wood, 5-iron, 8-iron and 54º Wedge). The numbers below are based on an average Carry Distance for each club for 6-12 shots (depending on the club). As you can see, the Mevo does seem to typically report higher numbers than the Trackman. However, the differences are fairly negligible and are very consistent between the two devices. Overall, I was very impressed with the Mevo's ability to report similar data to the Trackman. There were definitely still outliers in the data (especially with the Driver off the tee), but overall the results were very consistent. If you read this far, I appreciate your time and hope that I could provide some additional insight. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out via PM or by tagging me in the thread! TL;DR if you hate graphs: In a heads-up comparison between the Mevo and Trackman monitors, the Mevo tends to slightly overstate numbers in comparison to the Trackman. However, the differences are mostly negligible and the accuracy is incredibly impressive. Great write up, great info, great data! Also great to see Mevo hold its own against a gold standard like trackman! I’m impressed! Right now I'm currently playing the Cobra Aerojet Max driver with MaxFli Tour balls. I was playing a LS driver previously and getting extremely low spin, I'm talking like 1100 and the ball was just dropping out of the air and also dealing with a lot of low duck hooks. I'm having to compete for an ankle injury I sustained last year and I know that isn't doing anything to help the cause. It's frustrating and I don't know if it'll ever get back to 100%, my doctor is just hoping for it to get to around 50% better than at it's worst. That's insane Players are all different and the goal is to optimize launch conditions based on how the player delivers the club. Saying that someone swinging 85 can't benefit from an LS model would also mean that someone swinging 105+ can't benefit from a MAX model. In the golf industry there are no standards and you can't just make generic statements about what works for a player. I have seen fittings where slow swing speed players do best with long tour stiff shafts than the "senior" shaft most would put them in. The Otto-flex thread on this forum is full of people that have seem better results with shafts that are 2 flex and weight classes lower than general fitting recommendations. If I was making general statements about golfers as a whole, I would agree with your assessment that most 85 MPH swingers need more spin to gain distance. So build my driver: I can swing in the 108-110 range, should I be using? sirchunksalot, Owengeorge13, GolfSpy_APH and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: Paradym AI Smoke Max HL 16.5* w/MCA TENSEI AV Series Blue Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Render w/VA Composites Baddazz Backup Putters: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe, Milled Collection RSX 2 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017

This was your comment the first time, then it was 90mph. Just because it claims low spin or a max face doesn't mean someone that hits a different part of the face can't do better with either/or. The right shaft and face contact can make either club work for someone of any speed. We will have to disagree on that one,, A tour player looking for a little more forgiveness and switching into a G430 is NOT the same as someone struggling with lack of distance and mechanics issues switching into an LS driver??? That's like saying I can barely hit these GI irons I better try blades. I'm done on this one we will have to just disagree as this logic is not logical to me even slightly. So who is going to win this football game??? 2 minutes ago, Josh Parker said: This was your comment the first time, then it was 90mph. So who is going to win this football game??? And I stand by my original statement 100% you're welcome to stand by your statements. Last year MGS didn't release their driver results by speed but in 2022 they did and the Callaway Rogue ST Triple Diamond LS was one of the best drivers for sub 90 swing speeds. https://mygolfspy.com/buyers-guides/drivers/2022-best-driver-for-low-swing-speeds/ Fundamentally what most golfers on this forum have learned is that industry tagging of this clubs is for this player category isn't always accurate. Golf club and shaft selection isn't logical; it is based on how a player responds to the club that is in their hands from a visual and feel perspective. And yes, there are players that can hit blades better than GI irons. There are reports of people all over the net that are surprised they were fit into low spin drivers with a slow swing speed. I am not saying that it is even 10% that would do that, but it is not 0% like you are stating.
