Fitness Goals: Helping Each Other Reach Our Goals

Recommended Posts

ZERO workouts for this week. It's just been one of those where it feels like if something could go wrong it will. That's just a feeling it actually true, I'm sure we have all had them.

I have been getting my back stretches in though and I'll take that as I need those just to get through the day.

Have great workouts, stay the course.

What was interesting over the weekend was a video of Joaquin Niemann's workout and how simple it actually was, I've always done workouts since graduating university, I lost 4 stone straight after graduating as it was no longer drink and party everyday. Ever since it's always been little cardio and just weights. I have now made it more of a priority to do more mobility work prior to weights. I have already noticed a difference in how much I can rotate.

My goals moving forward are to train areas to increase my swing speed and power in specific areas.

Day 3 of cruising... Got in my Push yesterday and Pull today less deadlifts. Been watching what I've been eating, and walking a lot. 22k steps yesterday and at 11k today, plus a trip up the rock climbing wall. Feeling pretty good!

Any good program is simple. Typically a should include a squat movement (barbell squat, hack squat, leg press). A hinge movement (deadlift, deadlift variation). A press movement (barbell bench, incline bench, db bench) and then accessories to address weak points.

Super helpful thanks,

I am in the process of making a new routine, currently on a PPL routine but want to do more of a full body approach each time, if you have a routine you would recommend then that would be great!

Seeing their mobility exercises is very interesting! I’ve been seeing a lot of hip opener exercises lately and have been giving some of them a try. I’m actually a little surprised I can even do some of them 😆

But zero workouts happens sometimes. I feel much better after a week of exercising than a week with no exercise so I try to use that as motivation to fit it in somehow.
Good luck this week!

The one thing I always try to get in are my morning stretches. Doesn’t happen everyday, but I can feel the difference when I miss a couple day.

this week it’s two early (leaving the house at 4am) trips the airport and then straight to work. Then I get to leave early and get on a plane myself.

hopefully I can get something done in the hotel.

Does having two kids under 2 and having to carry them around, play, walk and rock them to sleep for hours at a time standing up count as good exercise?

100%! I turn play time into mini workouts. I'll hold my boys up and do bench presses, skull crushers, and curls.

I'm currently training for a marathon on June 2nd in honor of my brother, LCpl James W. Higgins Jr. who was killed while serving in Iraq. June 2nd of this year would have been his 40th birthday. I also have a half marathon on March 24th. My legs are sore and it can be hard sometimes to find the motivation to keep going. I'm not a runner by nature but found this to be a good way to try to stay in shape and honor his memory.

I'm working on getting back into a routine of walking more. I took a walk during lunch on the 12th, and then walked another 2 miles with my wife after work. I got a 20 minute walk during lunch today as well.03-13-24Walk.png.9e658bede4b8e804043790fa6b968abd.png

Sorry for your loss, but wow, very cool that you're running a marathon in honor of your late brother! I love that you're using that as motivation to stay in shape and keep pushing because that's what a marathon is all about. I ran a marathon in 2016 and it was fun, but tough!

Thanks for letting us know your plans and keep us up-to-date on your progress and how the 1/2 marathon goes in 10 days! My unrequested advice is to keep your pace at the beginning. A lot of people start out WAY faster than their intended pace and then hit a wall later in the race. I can attest that it is hard not to get caught up in the hype and try to keep up with the faster runners.

Thank you! I agree. It can be hard to not go full tilt out of the gates, especially in some of the bigger races where there is a lot of energy. I've completed the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon 5 times and there is always a lot of energy. There's also usually between 20-25k people running. This one will have about 5k people.

I'll certainly keep posting about my training and how the races go. My wife is planning on running the marathon with me but she suffered a hip injury. She is meeting with a physical therapist to try to figure out a plan to recover and still run in the race. It would be her first marathon as well. She ran the half with me in 2019. My brother-in-law ran it as well. That year the race fell on my brother's 35th birthday. A spectator captured the below photo of us and was kind enough to track me down after the race and sent me the photo.IMG_20230111_221551_240.jpg.773e17d1b353d6e180661d5e57b7dc3e.jpg

What a photo. Looks like it belongs in a magazine. Your brother's ultimate sacrifice for our country does not go unnoticed and unappreciated. That's so cool that the spectator tracked you down to give you the photo.

Also, that's an impressive amount of miles that you've run over the years! Good work and keep up the grind. It's kind of similar to the grind that golf requires!😆

Great topic! Three years ago I made a commitment to get my mid 50s out of shape body going. Along with better eating habits, I make sure I’m active every day. One day is strength training and the next aerobic. During the golf season, I play 2-3 times per week and walk every time. I work with a trainer about once a month to keep me going and fresh. I’ve dropped about 30 pounds and kept it off. I look forward to see what people are doing and picking up good tips. Good luck everyone!
