Wife and I were in NC for a few day getaway in Feb - stayed at a beautiful place just outside the Duke U campus and played 9 on the golf course - literally right outside the back of the Inn - two days. Not good golfing on our parts but nice weather, beautiful course and a fun trip.

Nothing planned for March (yet? ..but my club opened up today 3-08) .. in April we're gonna go somewhere nice and do some golfing.

Then May is the MGS Outing to Kingsmill; June is a Monte Scheinblum clinic in NJ (3rd morning is on the course); July is a few Midwest Spies Meet-Up in NE.

August is our anniversary so we'll be doing a nice trip then, too!!

Just put the finishing touches on 2 golf trips.

In May, I'm going to Sand Valley for 2 nights and tacking on a trip to Lawsonia on the way back to fly home. Currently on the waitlist for the Lido, but hoping we can get in there while at Sand Valley. Otherwise, we still have 2 rounds at Mammoth Dunes, 1 at Sand Valley, and a couple loops at the Sandbox on the table.

Then due to a last minute wedding in San Diego in July, I'll be playing Torrey Pines. While I have heard meh reviews on the course design, I'm excited to knock a top course off my list and this time the wife wants to join in on the round, so it should be a fun trip (fingers crossed this gets the bug and can greenlight more golf based travel for us in the future)

Excited for a few trips with my dad this year. Even when we lived on opposite sides of the country, we would try to meet and play some every other year. We started to work through the Robert Trent Jones courses in AL. We only have a few more sites to visit before we have played every course on the trail. Now I live a little closer, so hopefully we can get the rest of the sites played this year when he turns 75.

Well it’s finally official. I booked my flights to Chicago to join @Byrnzee at Erin hills in June. This will probably be my only “big” trip of the year outside of a couple local-ish tournaments I play in every year. I’m really looking forward to it and to add another top 100 course to my list!

One of the guys suggested Asheville cause he's been there a few times and likes it. With all of us being in the Mid-Atlantic area basically anything is going to be an improvement over the crowded, beat up courses we very often play so we settled on Asheville. But now we may have to shorten the trip and may decide to go someplace closer to home.

I might be too late for this years trip, but if not, for next year thing about Charlottesville. On the very pricey end Keswick Country Club (private, but has stay and play). In the expensive but still reasonable range Spring Creek (private, but i know a guy), Devils Knob (private, but has stay and play), Birdwood, and Old Trail. In the mid range Meadowcreek, and Stoney Creek. On the very cheap end and absolutely an adventure Swannanoa. All of these courses are within 30ish minutes of Charlottesville proper. Meadowcreek is the cville muni and they do a great job with what they have, on the shorter side but fun layout. Swannanoa is a cash only, BYOB treasure. It is on top of a mountain and has the best views of any course on my list. No distinction between fairway and rough, but they try their best to keep the tiny greens well kept. Devils knob and Stoney creek are apart of the wintergreen resort. DK is at the top of the mountain, SC is at the base. 27 holes at SC and its a solid course. DK is very challenging with lots of blind shots and uneven lies, conditions are immaculate, vistas on the course will disappoint as the HOA does not allow removal of any mature trees. Birdwood is apart of the Boars head resort, and UVA plays there competitively. Always in good shape. Old trail is good challenge, and always plays well. Lots of different hole styles and mostly pretty flat greens. I have never played keswick. Spring creek is the best of the bunch that ive played (i may be biased, cus i am the guy i referred to earlier). If i was to plan a trip I would probably start in Cville with Spring Creek, Birdwood and/or Meadowcreek. Then head out towards the wintergreen resort. Play old trail or swannanoa on the way. They both sit at the north end of rt 151 which is a lovely ale trail. Wineries, breweries, distilleries, and cideries line the whole road. Either get a place at the top of wintergreen or somewhere on 151 and finish your trip with Stoney creek and/or Devils knob.

Does a FIR care WHICH fairway its in?

An acquaintance who I've occasionally played golf with was recently in touch. Seems his friend that he planned to go on a golf trip with was on the fence and I was asked to be the backup. <<humbling, I know>>
I said sure without knowing much detail on it figuring his friend would more than likely still go.
Lo and behold I get a message very quickly that he was out and I was in.

When I think "golf trip" I think of a bunch of guys but come to find out that it was just the 2 of them and he'd already paid for 2 people.

I talked it over with the wife who of course said... it's up to you. (if that isn't a loaded answer!)

I thought about it and decided that this year I'm all about experiences so I dove in.

It's at sea island resort March 13-17 and we are playing the 3 courses.  https://www.seaisland.com/golf/
The place looks amazing and I can't wait!

If you've played there and have some tips I'd love to hear em.

If you haven't considered it, this one should be added to your short list. wellllll worth it. A great place for a group of guys, a couple friends, significant others, etc.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Haven't played Champion Hill, but both Arcadia courses are in my top ten favorites.  Side note: If you have time, you can literally drive 30 minutes and be at the clubhouse of Crystal Downs. No security gate to negotiate, just drive up to the pro shop.  You can see about six holes from that vantage point. Worth seeing, as most will never get the opportunity to play there. I have always wanted to go to Sea Island, so I am interested to hear about your experience!

We have an annual golf trip and this is the 4th year we have done it. 12 guys. We do a cheaper trip every other year and a nicer trip the other years. This year is a little nicer. We are going to St. George, Utah and playing Sand Hollow, The Ledges of St. George, Coral Canyon, and finishing up in Mesquite and playing Wolf Creek with a night in Vegas after that. Going in late April so hopefully the weather is great. I’ve never played desert golf so I am pumped for the opportunity!IMG_2854.jpeg.503b128e056eb14538e64878d28c49ca.jpeg

Just got back. Trip exceeded expectations! Most beauty I’ve ever seen on golf courses. Played Coral Canyon, Conestoga, Sand Hollow, The Ledges, and Wolf Creek. House we stayed at was awesome too and very affordable (through the ledges). And I had 2 eagles at wolf creek on the front 9!!IMG_7999.jpeg.1ae3f80e76d357ceb41b62903c134cf6.jpegIMG_8929.jpeg.5e74728d23a94b0a939e12366d6ddecd.jpegIMG_8901.jpeg.3eaf1e491b2fbb4ed862bf146df98207.jpegIMG_3278.jpeg.611264941bcd694feb00c5a584c8870e.jpeg

I hopped into Llamapalooza for Talamore in North Carolina which included lodging for as low as $640. Each deal includes a Scotty Cameron putter, 2 nights of lodging, breakfast, and 3 rounds of Golf. Probably some open spots if you act fast.

For the past several years, my wife and I have gone to the Pinehurst area for our anniversary in July, and we are planning to go again in a couple of months.  Typically we stay at the Talamore Villas.  I like it there because it is close to many of the courses we play, and she likes it because they are comfortable and have everything we need.  It can be hot in the Pinehurst area in July, but it really has become a tradition for us.

I turn 40 this July 17th, and am lucky enough to celebrate with 7 straight days of golf. Starting with Desert Canyon, then Gamble Sands x2, then my buddy’s member-guest at Meridian Valley CC (4x). Gonna be a marathon, but a blast!

One of my lifelong friends is planning a trip with family and other friends to Ireland in 2025 and wanted to know if I wanted in. Told him that was rather optimistic planning for lads in our 70’s… He response was that at our age we really didn’t have much time left or much to lose. He is asking for an answer by the first of June. Not sure if Ireland is big enough for both me and you-know-who… I might not even be  around come June 1st. Depends on how much of a sense of humor the  “  Harbinger of Horrors “ has concerning my “ Mother’s Day “ PSA..

Well, unfortunately my Mexico trip was delayed due to some family happenings that would have made the trip a completely solo endeavor. Still going, but not sure when. So my summer in Mexico is a no go.

Fortunately, my Virginia trip is still a go and I am excited for that no doubt!

Just one of the viewing points.

Thoughts of the event:

  • We were fortunate that we did not have any wind during the week - both these courses are known for the windy conditions
  • Fortunate to watch the whales playing in the bay while were were playing at Pinnacle Point.
  • Some of the more senior players said that Pinnacle Point is too "slopy" for senior players making it difficult to walk to the ball or playing above or below their feet - I liked the course
  • The event was well organized
  • An amazing experience to play golf with so many seniors
  • Met many wonderful golfers from all over South Africa. The were also SAGES members all the way from Namibia that participated.
  • Although our scores weren't that great, the golf was fantastic.

Nice itinerary! I did the overnight queue to get on the OC in October. I had planned to do my warmup round at the Balgove in St. Andrews after landing at EDI, but no sleep on the flight knocked that idea out. Then I did the New Course the next day, stayed up all night and played the OC the next morning on my birthday. Then drove to Cruden Bay afterward and played there the next day. My B&B was actually very close to Elie but didn't make it there. Didn't get to East Lothian at all, that will have to wait for a future trip, but not the 2024 version.

I'm still putting together my Scotland summer plans, but here are the basics: Since I'm now a member at Fortrose & Rosemarkie, that will be my base, probably 3 or 4 rounds there including a Wednesday tournament for members, entry fee 3 pounds. As a F&R member, I get reciprocal privileges (half price) at numerous other courses in the Highlands and elsewhere. Use that to play at, possibly, Brora, Golspie, Moray and/or Tain. Hoping to enter a tournament at Dornoch (again), which is even cheaper to do than half-price. That's my main tip for budget golf in Scotland: Enter tournaments. Much cheaper than the visitor rates at most courses. Fly in and out of Inverness rather than driving up from Edinburgh or Glasgow.

I'll be in Scotland in five weeks and the itinerary is set:

Leave 4th of July (that was intentional to save a day of my vacation time at work), landing on the 5th in Inverness around noon. It's about a 40 minute drive from the airport to my lodging at Rosemarkie, near my club and the base for my stay. I'm hoping to get an afternoon round in, perhaps after a short nap. I will definitely go by and meet the club secretary and the pro, and have dinner at the clubhouse.

On the 6th: Tournament at Royal Dornoch championship course.

7th: Tournament at Dornoch's second course, which is still pretty good. I signed up for both tournaments for a total of 90 pounds. A single round on the main Dornoch course for a tourist is 280 pounds; even with reciprocal privileges, it would cost 140 otherwise.

8th: Tournament at Golspie, north of Dornoch. All of these are about an hour from Rosemarkie, but that's okay. I've driven those roads and they're good.

9th: Back at F&R for a round or two

10th: Wednesday Sweep tournament at F&R

11th: A bit up in the air, Maybe Tain, maybe F&R, maybe a little farther afield. Maybe even a rest day.

12th: More F&R

13th: Tournament at Brora Golf Club, north of Golspie.

14th: Fly home.

Obsessed with chasing the dimpled orb.

More about me:  WITB type stuff

Today is day 1 for my trip to Oregon to visit family and play Bandon Dunes. My itinerary?

Day 1: Drive to Cheyenne and have a beer or three with @Erin B
Day 2: Drive to Ontario, OR for the night
Day 3: Drive to Bandon and take in the beach before going to bed
Day 4: Play Bandon Crossings. Played here in high school back in the early 90s when it first opened. First links style course in OR that I know of. Not on par with Bandon Dunes courses but a grear warm up nonetheless.

Day 5: Play Bandon Dunes in the morning and Bandon Trails in the afternoon. Caddy for both rounds and tip money is already set aside. Plan to hit a brewry and wood-fired pizza for dinner that night
Day 6: Drive to Albany to visit an friend from college and play a round together at his club then drive to Bend to visit my parents for a couple days
Day 7: Playing at Tetherow with my dad then hit a brewery or two in Bend
Day 8: Hang out in Bend for a day and visit with my parents for another day before making the trek home
Day 9: Drive to Salt Lake for the night.

Day 10: Drive to Gothenburg, NE and if time permits, sneak in 9 holes with Erin B on the way back home
Day 11: Play a 7:30am round at Wild Horse before driving home to Omaha

It's an action packed vacation that I will likely need a vacation from when it's all over, lol.

Today is the start of my trip for the International Police Association UK championship. Leaving shortly to drive up to North Yorkshire where we will play a round at Masham Golf Club and stay overnight. Tomorrow we then drive to Slaley Hall Golf Resort in Northumberland and have a practice round in the afternoon on the Priestman course. Wednesday is the start of the competition, again on the Priestman course, and Thursday is the final day on the Hunting course. Both courses are PGA courses and have been used on the European Tour so looking forward to it.
Thursday evening I’m calling in to see some old work colleagues as Slaley Hall is only around 40 miles from where I am originally from before moving to London 18 years ago so will be good to catch up.

Just finished booking a trip tonight!

Headed from home (Kamloops BC, Canada) to Halifax Nova Scotia beginning of July. Have a night at the first Scotch Whiskey distillery on the island to break me into the Eastern side of things. From there, move to the Cabot property, where a couple nights in the lodge, and a round each at the Cliffs and Links course await!

From there, moving back East a bit to Fox Harbour, and the Canadian TEAM TITLEIST event! 3 fittings, two rounds, and all the hoopla that comes with!

Spent a little more than I planned, but i'e never been back east, so hoping for some great lobster, and with luck, a few calm days on the Atlantic coast!

we got a pool and a pond... the pond would be good for you
