JUST ARRIVED! - Iomic Opus 3 Grips

These just arrived on my porch this afternoon. Unrelated to anything note...FedEx always rings the doorbell, UPS almost always dumps and runs. Moving On...

Given the heat and humidity here in upstate NY right now, anything short of my favorite grip would barely be worth opening the door for.

For those of you not familiar with Iomic, they're a Japanese made grip. With the exception of their Diarrow line, Iomic grips are made from IOMAX, a proprietary, non-rubber compound said to offer the following benefits:

  • Ultra Soft
  • Super Flexible
  • highly waterproof
  • great UV protection
  • extremely low torque
  • remarkable traction
  • almost no weight differential
  • wide variety of colors and sizes

The foundation of the Iomic lineup is the "Sticky" grip. With the exception of the Diarrow and X-Evolution, all Iomic models feature the sticky pattern (the X-Grip could be viewed as an amalgamation of the "pebbled" X-Evolution and the Sticky.

For more details on the Sticky and Diarrow grips, see Matt's Earlier Iomic Review.

What I've got here is the new Sticky Opus 3. The Opus 3 is part of the Iomic Art Series (patterns), but is essentially the same as the Sticky 1.8. Visually (color with a splash of white), it's the inverse of the Opus 2 (white with a splash of color).

One note about the Sticky 1.8 (Opus 2 and Opus 3), they're a slightly undersized, and underweight (48 gram) grip. I always install them with an extra wrap, which gets them to the perfect size for me.

Before we get to the pics...some quick notes about the colors:

  • Tan and Brown are new colors
  • The pink and green are more vibrant than the standard sticky grip of the same color
  • The Yellow is a tad darker, not as bright

No surprise to any of you who know me...the pink is my favorite.

MSRP for the new grips is around $18 each. It sounds steep, but... they can be purchased from legitimate sources for a bit less than that (be careful on eBay...counterfeits are everywhere). They are everything they're cracked up to be from a performance standpoint, they're MUCH easier to clean (and keep clean) than a rubber grip (they can be cleaned with grip solvent, WD-40, and even acetone without damage), and they easily outlast anything else I've ever used two-fold. When durability is factored in, cost is equivalent to most mid-range grips on the market today. You're getting better performance for your money (with more colors to choose from too).

Iomic has also added an Orange grip to the Sticky 2.3 Lineup. The 2.3 is a standard sized, standard weight grip. I find that it plays just a hair over standard, which makes it a good choice (for me anyway) on my wedges.

I use their putter grips haven't found one better yet, neat to see that they are expanding the options in the round grip line up.

One quick complaint...I'd love to see Iomic either move from mint to neon, or include a neon green in their lineup. The mint is nice, but I could really use something a bit more...RocketBallzy right now.

That could be nice I have seen a couple of the art line putter grips have the blue / white one. My builder wouldn't part ways with his yellow and orange one and I loved that grip went with his yellow paint fill on his putter though so he wouldn't part ways with it. I wish that they made a wrap style round grip, what can I say I have grown to like wraps.
