Re-naming the Burner

Recommended Posts

  • SPY VIP

This topic came up in another thread. For a company that changes club line-ups so frequently, it is odd that the name has lingered. Since TM has used the Burner name for quite some time now, it may be getting stale and a bit confusing to consumers who are looking to buy the "Burner" driver.

Here is your chance to come up with the new name for the line!

I made a bet middle of last year that TM would re-issue some sort of bubble shaft in the next 18 months. I am shockingly behind at this point.

I would not have taken that bet with you. :)

Maybe this will be the 1 0 1 0 Double Bubble shaft

I hope the Bubble shafts stays dead - replacing the grips on these things is absolute murder, something I didn't learn until after I'd cut the original grip off of my father in law's Burner.

Ludicrously Speed-Y (will match the plaid graphics)

or Ludacris-ly Speed-Y if they can land the endorsement

I don't know if Ludacris plays golf, but him endorsing it would be interesting.

From a marketing standpoint, the Burner nameplate = Taylor Made. Just as when someone says "Big Bertha", you wouldn't automatically think Callaway.

When you have that engrained, you don't come up with a new name. You improve upon it and keep it around. It's perfect!

Current bag: Some Callaway, some Cleveland. Down to 2 OEM's!

Well Callaway is moving away from the Big Bertha name, so maybe it's about time Taylor Made does the same.

Yup after I regripped one and knew there would be a lot more needed to be regripped I stopped using them as well. I used the "fairway driver" as my 3 wood for a looong time.

@Sactown

I still have about 10 months. So that means 3 more releases from TM. I would say I'm 50/50.

With Taylormade's churning of clubs, they just need to forget names and assign their club lines numerical designations. They need to name them after whatever month and year it's released for sale.

For example, whatever new club they put out this month (March of 2010) would be called the 510....and next's month new club would be called the 610....and so on and so on. Now....the only issue for them at that point would be what to do in the month that they release more than one new club (hey...it's Taylormade - it happens). In that case, they just add either an A or B designation, or, they go to the actual day so today's club would be the 51910...and tomorrow's club would be the 52010.

That'd at least make it a lot easier to keep up with them.

That would be cool because they could make special holiday clubs. Like the 70410 clubs.
