Looking for an under $1000 launch monitor to meet very specific needs

Recommended Posts

I returned my Rapsodo MLM2 Pro because I was getting wacky numbers.  This is what I am looking for:

1) Works well using outdoors hitting into a net.  I will not be using it indoors and rarely on the range.  Accuracy using a net is paramount.

2) Accurate measurement of club head speed, ball speed and spin rate.  Other parameters such as ball curve, landing angle, launch angle, etc. would be nice but head speed, ball speed and spin rate are paramount for me.

So, any suggestions?

The Flightscope Mevo is probably your next bet if you want spin rates, no other launch monitor that is below 1k does spin I don't think, if you have a look at the mygolfspy reviews there is a launch monitor section. The Rapsodo is probably the best with the rpt balls and spin rate according to the tests being done.

Mevo, SC200+, and SC300i were all shown to be very accurate in past tests. Plus they're all very portable and don't have subscriptions.

Thanks.  But I don't think they do spin rate.

The SC300i will with the app. The mevo does as well.

I have an SC 300i. You won't get side spin. I think club speed is also derived.

Not sure whether mevo+ gathers or derives club data. It will also cost more than a grand. I'm pretty sure even the PRGR will get you decent backspin numbers.

You could start with the original Skytrak. Used ones are all over forums & the bay for under $1k.  Photo based units do backspin well, especially with short hitting distances into a net. Skytrak works best off mats too. Only issue may be inconsistent lighting outdoors.

Late to this post, but the VC SC4 provides spin, but from what I have seen, for the money is pretty decent, as compared OUTDOORS only to a Trackman. Also a great comparison between a Trackman 4 ( $25k vs $549 SC4)

And another would be since its latest software update ( I think the beta has been released)  the MLM2PRO

I've had the garmin, the rapsodo and a used mevo plus.  The garmin and rapsodo were good but I only use it indoors into a screen.  The mevo is lightyears better than the 2 and I paid about 1k used.

I should be golfing instead of talking smack on the web.

I don't think you'll find anything at that price that accurately gives you clhb head speed. At best, it will be calculated (take the observed ball speed and guess at the smash factor to determine club head speed).

I also think that club head speed is pretty unimportant (ball speed and distance more important) unless you're doing speed training.

I have the Garmin R10 and I have been very happy with it. It does Club speed Ball speed Spin Launch angle Launch direction smash factor and I believe some other things. It is not as accurate as the very expensive systems but it works well. The AG simulator app is an off brand app that has a few more things it does but I just use the Garmin app
