Yes, I use 2 pieces (you can use however many you prefer) about 5" long and then one piece the length of the grip. If doing a solvent install, you want the double sided piece to be on the top, so that's why I do the long piece last. If doing an air install, I don't think it would really matter, so it's just habit.

Makes sense!!!

I’m very interested in this review. I’m always changing grips and am tired of cutting, the mess, and the cost of regripping. I’ve not been to their website in a while but use lamkin grips and golf pride corded. Do they have a similar design as those two or are all their grips a rubber tour wrap?

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

@Erin B so all their grips are tacky feeling. The sidewinder is similar to a tour velvet. And the other grips are wrap that aren’t as pronounced as traditional wraps. They feel good to me. They don’t really have anything similar to a “corded” grip. But in terms of time and cost, the ability to just use a compressor to get things on and off is quick and easy.

I ordered up the Star Grips installation nozzle to use with one of my air guns. When I got the package yesterday, they included a blue Sidewinder grip free. That was a nice touch, and a color I don't mind. Man, they are tacky that's for sure.

Haven't installed it, so unsure from a swinging it feel. Not really just from handling it. At least not that I noticed.

Are any of the testers doing to be doing a less taper installation - more tape built up for the lower hand? That's how I'd want them so curious to see if anyone is going to do that and their results.

I'm not a tester, but I'll be installing my Tour grips this evening if they arrive in time, if not I'll put them on tomorrow.  I had the Sidewinders on initially and liked them they were just too narrow even with 2 layers of tape for the trail hand.  The tape I used was the one sided tape offered by Star.  Before trying star I had Iomic Stick 2.3 grips (1 layer of tape, then two additional for the trail hand).  I liked the Iomics but they wore pretty quickly for me.

How many extra layers are you wanting to see?  I can set up a club for you to take a look at.  I have a Tour on one of my wood shafts that I installed without additional tape, or any tape all for that matter, and will set up all of my clubs this way.  No tape with the Tour wraps feel great to me.

I'm just trying to gauge who's doing this and what they're looking to accomplish. I have MCC+4's midsize I'd be looking to replicate with that freebie they sent me on a test club.

So my driver currently has +2 wraps on the bottom hand with a GP Tour Velvet 360. I'm going to try and get to that with the rest of my clubs (may leave wedges with no buildup). All the grips I'm testing are the Sidewinder 360 midsize. Based off what @Gunn404 was mentioning I may need to go with more buildup to get that effect.

Ahhh gotcha.  Yeah, I initially had my Iomics built up to just under a midsize +4.  The setup was just a little too big and it made it feel too firm.  The Stars are without a doubt softer than the Iomics and MCC's.  The built up Stars will probably feel pretty good.

My original plan was to put the blue on my driver, woods, hybrid and wedges and put the orange on my irons. Now I'm torn on just alternating clubs. The blue would go well with the Ventus blue and Riptide CB shafts but so would the orange. What's everyone thinking? Should I go with plan A or alternate every other club?

I would alternate.  All of my clubs are gripped white except lob wedge, it's red.  I've walked out to my ball when it's cart path only too many times with the wrong wedge.  Mizuno has those unmarked soles.

All my original gamers were Plus4 so went with the Tour Star (Driver, Woods & Hybrid) as this has the similar reduced taper. On the Irons the Sidewinder (green) has build up tape (4 staggered layers) as I want as close to original setup as possible and Wedges have the Sidewinder (orange) with no tape to see what the differences could be to shot outcome and feel.

Grips arrived today. With a surprise extras. 5 green, 9 red, air gun and a selection of other colour grips. Orange and pink grips are really vivid and vibrant.

Still not sure if I will invest in a compressor for this, $140 for a low end mains powered one???

Nice extra colours. The blue looks good, slightly brighter maybe than I got on the Tour Star and the pink you got are pretty sweet.

Easy for me to say, but go on invest in the compressor, once you go air you won’t go back, (says the guy who stopped for years) but hey I’m reconverted.

The blue sidewinder certainly looks slightly brighter than the tour star. Hard to say based off pictures.

I'm hoping Star Grips fixes the missing air gun from my shipment. I've watched enough YouTube videos that it's doable without, but I was looking forward to using it.

@BreakfastBall15 if you have something similar to this it works just as good. The black top is just a screw on for the end.  And the top can go a bit deeper into the end of the grip

The green looks perfect St Paddy's or MASTERS week!  It's so easy to do swaps.

My grips came in!  I need to do a slight adjustment on the driver.  The red grip weighs less than the white.  It's also softer than the white, not so much that it's going to be a problem, but definitely softer.

That’s sick. Since they are so easy to change it would be cool to get a bunch of different colors and swap them out for different seasons/events

Just got an email from RJ at Star Grip. He apologized for the missing air gun and they’re going to be sending one out and it should be here Thursday! Their customer service remains top notch!

Interesting comment on the softness between colours; I didn’t notice this on the green vs orange, but something to look for when I start really using them. The Tour Star are supposed to be softer and again I couldn’t feel it so that’s probably more on me, but time will tell.

Cool idea on swapping out the colours for events - red/white/blue on 4th July 🇺🇸 or all blue to celebrate anytime Scotland win against England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I like when clubs are similar. I would go with blue on Dr, W & hy and orange on irons (plan A)! With the air method and these grips, you can always change things out in a matter of minutes!

True. I’ll have some time in my hands the next few days while recovering so I’ll have time to mess around with different layers of buildup tape and color combos

Still not sure if I will invest in a compressor for this, $140 for a low end mains powered one???

I wouldn't worry about getting a new one. Look on fb marketplace or craigslist and you should be able to find one for under $40. You just need to make sure it has a pressure regulator on it (which is common).

The other option is go to with a cordless tire pump. The one demonstrated in this video was only about $60 from amazon and looked like it worked perfectly. You wouldn't get to use the pistol air gun with it though.

Thanks for sharing this. I have that tire inflator and hoped to use it whenever I next change my grips. Now, I know that I can.

@LeakyValve I'm borrowing my father in laws compressor but I'm pretty sure it does. I saw one where a guy did it with a bike pump so if all else fails... 🤣

I've used a bike pump and it works fine, but you can't use that gun with it from my experience.

No problem! I have a cheap tire inflator and I was hoping to use it for changing grips, but it doesn't have the pressure regulator like the one that was in the video and @StrokerAce shared a link to, so I don't know if the pressure would get too high with it.
