How'd you play?

84, the putting woes continue, had just a couple bad holes in the rain on Saturday, #6, par 5 hands were wet, drive onto the woods left score 7, other hole #9 again, (I chronicled this hole last season as my nemesis hole), hit a good drive, faded 6 iron left of the bunker, no problem the pin is back right so plenty of room, chunk chip shot into the face of the bunker, had no stance the ball is vertical plugged at the top of the lip, it's horrible, one knee on the ground the oter deep in the bunker, full swing the ball goes 20 feet straight up on the air, and lands 2 feet out of the bunker, and then rolls back into the long grass at the top of the bunker, so now I have a buried ball deep in wet grass 2" from being back in the bunker, chipped it to 6 feet and actually made a putt for 6. Back 9 was decent, 3 putted 18 for 40 on the back. Better putting and tighten up a couple shots and the round would be good. It was fun anyway. I did get angry on 9 but I didn't break anything.

Best round of Spring with an 83 on a par 70 course.  Spending time getting to know my new "Home Course," since I hadn't played it in a couple of years.

Struggling to control my fairway wood, which I hit great when I "groove" on the range, but can't always hit it consistently on the course.

Spent the morning working on bunker play and managed to get out of the one I managed to hit into while playing.

Finally got settled on my wedges and put the 53* SCOR back in the bag.  Love the Edel (which wasn't fitted for me, just an eBay pickup since I wanted to try one), but the SCOR is a better fit for my gaps and more flexible for me around the green.  For a wedge I wasn't fitted for, and is likely the wrong grind for me, I was pretty impressed and would still like to get an Edel fitting when I visit the Twin Cities in the future.

Absolutely LOVE what the Paderson shaft has done for my consistency off the tee.  GPS showed my very first (ever) 250 yard drive (wind WAS behind me - lol) and I used a lob wedge on my approach on the 355 yard par 4.  If I hadn't been so excited, I might have made my 8 foot birdie putt. - lol

Play out of town tomorrow with a friend on a Links style course, which is considered one of the tougher courses in the area, then my Home Course again on Thursday.

We've FINALLY got some golf weather!!! ;)

93 and a 86......all I did was change drivers from Bio-Cell to Powerbilt AFO. Gave me better fairway position and enabled me to get a better look at the greens. Yesterday was 44/49 and today was 41/45.

Putting was pretty good considering the freshly punched greens. They were sanded and rolled, so they are running pretty fast.

65 last weekend during a scramble (obviously my team score). Everyone played great. I sank 2 25'+  birdie putts. Followed that up with a 92 on Friday and a 95 today. I'm not playing my best golf scoring wise BUT I'm probably hitting the ball the best I've hit it in years. This year i've decided to take my game a bit more seriously. I'm swinging the club extremely well however I'm having to learn how to play the course all over again. I was always a cut or fade player and played it well but had really reached a plateau. Well now I'm dead straight to almost a baby draw player. Heres to hoping I can get things right the next couple weeks and get back down to my mid 80's score with goal of breaking 80 by the end of the year.

Putting was better, but hit a few squirrelly shots during the round, I counted 11 shots that I consider to be unforced errors, some were judgment errors, some were simple execution errors, shot 85. I know that I won't and can't eliminate all the errors, I can eliminate some. Example. Par 5 number 12, hit a good drive, middle of fairway 240 away, there is a gulch at about 220, so the play is layup and leave somewhere between 110-100. So I only need to hit a shot that flies about 120, with a bounce or two it will be perfect, so I grab the 50 degree, easy shot, nope dig a ditch and hit about 20 yards. Horrible unforced error that can be fixed. Those are the types of errors that I am talking about

What an ugly round this weekend. 91, and the two bright spots in the round both came as a result of making shots that were preceded by the phrase 'f*** it'. Horrible mishit on the 7th tee left an obscenely low percentage shot back to the FW through a stand of trees. Ended up make a par 4 because not only did it get through, it then bounced over the sand trap to leave an ease up and down chip and putt.  Then by the time 16 rolled around, the live dangerous high risk high reward shot, over the trees on the dogleg left, not only cleared the trees, but landed softly just off the green for a nice chip & putt to a birdie 3.

That said, I did manage to get through a day without a single left duck hook. All of the mishits today came in the form of tops or skulls.

I was able to get to play 2 rounds on Saturday, one was my own ball, the other was captains choice, and I remembered something while I was playing, and that is that I can actually play golf, and I'm pretty good at it, I think somewhere along the way I was getting so analytical with my game I forgot that I can play, I am hoping that I can remember this more often, and that my score and attitude while playing improve.

Getting analytical is so easy to do.  I spend time on the range working on certain shots. When I go to play, I am STILL thinking about the shots on the range.  Gotta let go.

I played during the weekend. Shot 98 and played the same course and shot 90.

Hit two bombs of putts one on each day.

Still have about 4-5 trouble holes I need to figure out but I parred this devilish par 5 on the back that usually gives me fits.

How you shoot 4 birdies and can't break 90 either day just shows how a few bad holes can screw up a scorecard.

After struggling with a few rounds in the mid-upper 80s I saw my instructor and his words were simple. Slow down. Tempo and balance. I was way over swinging. Played today and shot 41-40 for an 81. 9 pars and 9 bogeys. I'll take a round with no doubles but still searching for that elusive 79. Ultimately it once again came down to my short game.

Played from the second to back set of tees at my course, rating is 74, slope 140. Shot 82 with 5 three putts. I think I need to be up a set of tees. :). The tips are 75.2 144 BTW for anyone who is interested.

Honestly I just didn't putt or chip well, haven't been playing or practicing, throw in an unfamiliar course with fast greens ( they said 13) and I got what I earned.

Another day, another few strokes away from breaking 80. I think it's bad that I have more confidence hitting a green with my 3W than hitting a pitch or chip to 5 feet. The only bright side of my short game has been my bunker play.

Hope it doesn't last too long. My allergies start to kick in next month when the temps get over 100. Not looking forward to it.

Went out to play after the great tournament today. My wife and I hooked up with another couple that we know but haven't played with them before. They are relatively new to the game but really like to play. I don't play very well under those circumstances and I didnt disappoint myself! Couldn't hit the driver very well at all, but I did impress them with a nice lob shot with my 50 over some very tall trees onto the green from 40 out. I have tried this shot many times with my 54 and while I can hit it high enough, I can't carry it far enough to cover the trees. The 50 worked great this time. Only birdie I had today.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Thanks, I'm much better than I was a week ago.  Of course, now it's raining (thunderstorms and tornados in the area yesterday), so maybe I can get some golf in later this week.

Normally, the allergies are a 2-3 day problem but this year they've been a real kicker!

Uggh. Played friday, and while chipping and putting was good, I just couldn't get off the tee. Then came Saturday, walked 9, and had 2 birdies, 2 pars and 5 double's. Same problems, just couldn't consistently get off the tee.  Hit the range afterwards and a little video revealed the problem.  Slipped back into old habits, and had an elbow doing the chicken dance :(

First day out on the golf course (first day opened) and I played a 9 hole in the rain. I shot a shitty 42 with 1 bird on a par 5. The greens are not ready. They were all brown with some green patches. Impossible to putt. I did hit 6 fairways (only missed 1) and 4 greens and hit one out of a green side bunker to about 3 feet to the pin for a par. Overall, should not be complaining but I was hoping for a better round.

Played 27 holes this weekend and went to the PGA superstore. Played 9 saturday while waiting for a buddy to head to Phoenix. Started off horrid, but came back for a 46.

The next day went and played my winter course. Started double, triple, double. At one point I had 3-4 really good holes including hitting a 25 foot bomb for a birdie. Then I hit a house and the wheels fell off on the last few holes. Struggled to a 94. This year I can't shoot 80's anymore and seems like my goal of breaking 80 is a long long way away.

On the plus side, got new shoes, new bag, a Tiba and changed out my 52 for the first time in years. Hoping that all helps me somehow.

I shot a 92 on Saturday, then a 92 on Sunday.......However, the Sunday round was with different irons.  Saturday I used my Mizuno JPX800 Pro's with Project X 5.0 graphite shaft.  On Sunday I used my Cobra Bio Cell irons with the newly replaced Project X 5.0 graphite shaft.  Yes, both sets now have the same shaft.  I had the Dynalite 85s steel shafts replaced, then I put Pure grips on.  I like the feel of the PX shaft, especially when I hit the ball.  I was able to shoot the same score both days, albeit, on Sunday, my shoulder started hurting (from way too much time working on a computer, as this is my busiest time). Anyway, the shoulder tightness screwed up the last two holes so my score was somewhat inflated.  My goal is to beat last years Hcap during the sumer months.  Last summer, I only got down to a 15, so this year I want to see 12 or 13.  BTW, my club comped the cost of replacing the shafts so I only have $140 invested for the new graphite shafts.  I will be revising my review from last year on the Bio Cells in the near future.

That way, I can review the difference between the steel and the graphite.

I love that feeling too. I'm a registered 12... but the last score I posted was probably around this time last year. My handicap at the course I play a skins game: 19. I'll take the extra stroke please and thank you.

Played a charity scramble today for my first time out in a week or so and hit my new driver well. I pulled my driver out of my bag last night to regrip it and never through it back in my bag. When I left the house I was on a work call I just hopped in my car and drive away. Realized the error and called the wife and sure enough it was right by the front door so off to PGA Superstore and a new stick was in the bag for $60 off the used rack. Was able to grab an Adams XTD Ti that still had the head wrapped in plastic as it was the only X shaft on the rack. We ended up shooting -13 for a 57 and winning by three. I won the long drive hole and missed out on a closest to the pin by a foot. Overall was impressed with the driver as it was a bit more workable than I thought it would be and easy to flight down when I need to in the wind. Missed one fairway all day and the was more due to poor aim than anything.

Had a half decent round today, shot 81 or 35 stableford points in the Veterans competition which is more the older guys in the club 55+ than ex military though there are a few of them too.  We drew for partners as usual and played for $1 front $1back $1match.  My partner was playing pretty shabby golf and it turned out to be quite a tight match.  The biggest lead any pair had was 2 holes and we either pegged them back or they would do the same to us.

The ninth hole was the most exciting of the front nine and we went down the fairway all square with both pairs needing a win to take the money for the front side.  I hit 3 wood to the corner of the 18th a dog leg right (we started on the tenth) and had 155 yards to the pin a solid 7 iron for me.  My opponent also hit a good drive and hit a hybrid of some description in to about 20 ft.  I hit my 7 iron in to about 8 ft.  The others were there abouts but not figuring in the out come of the hole and Larry looked pretty serious as he lined up his birdie putt.  Of course he poured it in and shrank the hole to about half the size, that's the way it felt anyway.  Thankfully I rolled my putt in on top of his and the hole and nine was halved in birdies.

The second nine was very similar with no one really making a move until we won the 8th or our 17th to go one up going down 18 a long par 5.  The gamesmanship started on the tee with OB down the entire length of the fairway on the right hand side.  Talk of not hitting it right translated to drives being smashed down the middle followed by self satisfied grins at opponents.  Everyone hit good seconds and the bad guys had thirds that were a little longer than they wanted both missed the green and had delicate pitches.  I had about 80 yards for my third and stuffed it in quite close - about 6 foot for birdie without a shot and the opponents, one with a shot and the other without had par putts of 15 and 8ft respectively.  Mickey who had a shot drained his 15 footer as did Larry leaving me to sink my 6 footer for birdie to halve the hole and win the second nine and match.  The tension was agonising and this $2 putt felt like it was for the Masters.  It went in and the money was ours.  It was a pretty good day out - a birdie to finish both sides and good company, good golf and good fun!
