How'd you play?

I liked Troon North, but that was a lot of years ago. There weren't too many houses there then. I expect there are plenty now.

If you want to try a nice course that is not very expensive, give Vistal GC on South Mountain a try. It's one of my favorites, the people that work there are very friendly, and the price is a lot cheaper than Troon. I've had some good rounds there.

Will do.

Took a week off to go on vacation with my parents and sister in Hilton Head Island. Our place had a deal with two courses and I managed to play a third also. Problem was every course or so it seemed was areating. I mean every one. Most of the greens were bumpy but overall I had a fun time.

We played at in order:  Golden Bear (I'd skip it). Hilton head CC (nice course.. would love to see it when not punched)  and Palmetto Dunes- Jones course -( loved it)

The first round was meh a low 90's affair. The greens stunk and just felt like the course wasn't taken care of. Hilton Head GC I shot an 86 that was pretty much a solid round including 3 over on the back. Palmetto Dunes was tough but fair. I birdied his par 5 overlooking the water and a few holes I played well, but on the other end I struggled mightily on the back on the way to a 93 including a double triple finish.

Overall I played ok the last two weeks, with two good rounds and two meh rounds.

I am the 3 putt king, I can do anything - Jim Morrison from a song he was writing on my golf.  God I sucked at putting today.  Hit so many greens in reg and three putted them all aaaaarrrrrrgggghhh!  At least I am hitting greens and my irons again.  Hit the range for a punishment bucket and hit pure shot after pure shot.  Went and poked around the pro shop and found a putter I liked and had a putt with it for an hour.  Liked it so much I decided to reward my good range play and bought it.  Probably will hate it after the game tomorrow,  that's golf.

My wife and I traveled up the valley to a course that we play a couple of times a year.  We were invited by another couple that we play with occasionally.  I think I mentioned sometime ago that I really don't like playing with them, but we do it anyway.  The guy thinks every shot should be perfect, but he is a 14 and guess what... they're not!  He then turns into Mr. Negative.  Well, he doubled the first 4 holes, so we are off to a great start!  It always affects my game when he gets this way.  The gal is OK until she has a few beers, then she gets bitchy.

I shot 41 on the front with a triple bogey (amazing what one little sh*nk will do to your score; and a 44 on the back with 2 doubles.  (The bitching got worse as the beers kept flowing.)  However, it was the first round that I really tried out the Sonartec 3W and 7W.  They are working great!!  My wife borrowed the 3W for some long second shots and poked a few out longer that she could with her RBZ Stage 2.  I might have to keep and eye out for one for her.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Played my first round with my reshafted Mizunos today and what a difference having the right shaft in them makes.  The ball actually goes where you aim to hit it and that causes all sorts of problems when that hasn't been happening at all.  I hit some fantastic shots the best being a towering seven iron to 3 ft on a par three and I promptly missed the birdie too.  By way of a confession I was falling out of love with my Mizzies all because of the shaft issue and getting them reshafted was the last ditch attempt at reconciliation.  There's still some work to be done adjusting especially after having the Cally Apex irons in my bag for nearly a week.  They are such good irons that anything feels a bit flat in comparison.  The faces are so hot and lively that every shot is a crisp amazing experience.  Having said that the Mizuno buttery soft feel is also a sensual experience.  Didn't score that great but once again there is light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully my index will start making its way back down from the northwards climb that has been happening.  It will hit 9.1 after todays card goes in and that is after getting down to 4.5 which was an all time low.  And that my Golfspy friends is all the result of having poorly fitted clubs in the bag and trying to convince yourself that all will be ok :(

Yep, the right fit makes a big difference!

Realized a few days ago, my newly shafted irons were 2 degrees upright from what I was playing last year after struggling.  Got the fitting after hitting off my mat over the winter and suspect I was adjusting to protect my wrists and forearms.  Once I started playing on real turf and adjusted to taking divots, my posture changed.

Took my MP-30s to the course and played my two best rounds this season, so I got my Alpha irons adjusted to match yesterday and heading to the range today.

I'm replacing my hitting mat with a Real Feel mat this Fall...

82 (again) on the weekend. My local courses' greens are pathetic this year. The season started late so they fell behind. Very difficult to putt on greens that have been aerified 3 times since the season started. Holes and sand everywhere. If you don't stick your shot within a couple of feet don't bother putting at all. 40 for a front 9 yesterday. hit 6/7 fairways (2 holes were par 3's) and hit 6/9 greens. Again, no chance to putt with greens as they are.

Well, I tweaked my back; which means I still has a muscle there!  I tried to play yesterday after work and I could barely bend over to pick up a ball.  Looks like I will just have to watch golf all day long this weekend.  Darn!

It's fun rekindling a love affair.  My Mizunos are back ;)  The new shafts are sensational and I'm hitting the ball and getting that good old Mizuno "melts in your mouth" type sensation at impact and I'm a good 10 yards longer with them.  I set up on our 11th hole today and it measured 136 yards and that was about how far I had been hitting my 8 iron so that's what I selected and promptly air mailed the green.  Did that a couple of times including a pitching wedge on 9 a par 5 that I carried 125 yards and failed to get up and down but my putting is another issue that is terminal at the moment but improving.  It feels like I'm so close to playing well.  I was off 10 today, a handicap I haven't been off ever since I joined the club and had a shot on the first hole which was stroke index 10. I was so excited I could taste it.  I hit a great 3 wood and then went chunk, chunk, chunk and two putted for a double.  Tasted it alright and it tasted like poo   It is going to be embarrassing when I finally get everything firing on all cylinders :)

I shot a 48/44=92 today, but would have been an 82 if I could putt today.......they rep inched the greens the week we went to Kissimmee and they are still so bumpy that you can't make a three footer without a lot of luck. My drives were straight down the middle. My bio cell irons were terrific. I hit my 125 yd 8 iron three times today with two of them so soft that I couldn't feel the ball off the face.....buttery smooth. Will try again tomorrow. Fathers Day round followed by lunch at the club with my wife, daughter & granddaughters.

Played a practice round at my home course. Shot around 95 but stopped keeping score because the heat got to me. Greens were shockingly just about perfect. It's 110 degrees out for the last week and they are in mint shape.Problem was my putting was abysmal because the greens were quick and the breaks that much more severe. It didn't help that the pincutter found his wife in bed with a golfer, because some of those pin positions were brutal and I mean brutal. My scoring irons were not exactly great so left myself with a lot of tricky 30 footers.

On the plus side, I drove the ball a lot better back to my 230-250 yard dead straight or slight fade. Irons were a mess at times and others were perfect. Case in point... par 3 175 yds into the wind hit a weak 6 iron that went OB. Next shot lying 3 I put it to 3 feet. Felt like a day that with good putting and a few tweaks should have been in the mid 80's.

Also first official round with the Wilson FG tours. Overall, I came away impressed but not overwhelmed. Felt like a cheap Pro V1X knockoff sometimes, but going to put it to use in the sunday game.

Bummed. 85 yesterday. I'm not getting results even though I'm striking the ball very well. I only hit 4 fairways but mainly because there are a lot of dog legs on my home course and where I used to hit driver I almost have to hit 3 wood because the ball goes further and rolls off the fairway to the first cut of rough. It's the 3 putts on poor greens. I've gone from a 7.1 handicap to a 7.5 and haven't broken 80 yet this year in 6 rounds. Even if I'm 3-6 ft away from the pin, the ball bounces off line to the left or right. The greens have sand and were aerified and have holes and sand all over them. Practically impossible.

And the thing is: I like my clubs. I've never hit my driver, 3 wood or hybrid as far as I do now. My irons feel incredible and I'm almost to a point where I've got them under control. I can even shot shape with my driver where I've never been able to before. My wedges aren't bad but I am debating jumping the gun and buying some used Scors or Scratch wedges. My putter feels fine. Thinking maybe I shouldn't put my scores in until the greens are better? Don't know. Just getting really frustrated :(

I know how you feel mbrodeur86, I shat a 42/45=87 today. My drives and most of my irons are spot on. Today my putting was great on the front but terrible on the back. Recently punched greens have a lot to do with that.....BTW, I love my new to me SCOR wedges.

Well, I played the most frustrating round ever, couldn't do anything right.  Almost snapped every club in my bag and threw them into the lake.  It seemed like any time I did hit a good shot, I three putted for bogey.  I was so blinded by fury, that I didn't even notice that I also threw in 7 birdies and at the end of the day, I had a 75.  Theres a lot to be said for keeping your cool on the course.

I tried to play saturday. While sitting on the 7th tee box, waiting to be able to tee off. Looking over at the empty 11th tee box. A group of 4 20 somethings roll up to the 11th tee box. I already know we are stacked up, having waited on the every shot for the last 3 holes. These guys are the reason. I time them from the time they roll up to the tee box until the first practice swing is taken.  8 friggin minutes. The group behind them is sitting in their carts, behind the tee box waiting on these guys. By the time we got onto the 9th tee box. We had been playing for 2:10 minutes, and we played the first 4 holes without waiting in under 45 minutes. As I teed off on the 9th, I made my decision, I was done. handed my $10 skins money to the guys in the other cart and said have a nice day.

No way, no how, was I going to play a 6 hour round waiting 5-10 minutes on every shot so these tools could do their thing. Rumor has it that they berated a marshall when something was said to them, and had some nasty things to say to a couple of women in the women's group that got stacked up behind them as well and said something.

In the time I have played golf, I have never walked off in the middle of a round, but if I had stayed, I would have said something, and in the mindset I was in, had one of these kids responded to me the way they are purported to have responded to the marshall or the women, I would be sitting in jail today. So all in all, it turned alright. I didn't spend father's day in jail for issuing an epic beat down on some liquored up self centered and utterly lacking in courtesy 20somethings.

How could they be in Georgia?  I think they were at Chambers Bay!

Played an outing today at Trump Ferry Point in a nice 30 mph breeze that was fun downwind and brutal into it. Played well all around and we shot -10 as a team to place second which got is all golf GPS watches. Shot of the day was the cut 3 wood into the breeze from 242 that finished three feet from the pin for a kick in eagle.

My only real gripe of the day was that I did not win either of the long drive holes which was BS. On #2 I hit driver 331 downwind and was apparently beat by a guy in his mid 60s that could not hit a driver 200 yards on a good day (as I was told by my hosts for the day). On #15 I hit driver 285 in the wind thanks to a good kick off the backside of a fairway bunker and was 25 yards past the current long drive. One group left to come through and one of those guys claimed the long drive when we could see where they played their second from....nowhere near where my ball was. I am used to this happening but the prize was a new Scotty which made it sting a bit. Don't mind getting beat straight up but hate losing to cheaters.

Played Sunday. Had an interesting round. 46/40 for an 86. Started off ok, faded around the middle and came back strong. Twice I bailed myself out on par 5's by striking perfect 3 woods after taking a unplayable, once for bogey and another for par. Highlight of the day was the two 180 yard holes. Knocked one to 20 feet and another to about 18 feet. both were closest to the pins with one group to play. Plus knocked in my birdie attempt so I should win a little dough. I've been on a good swing groove and hope I continue that though the next few weeks.

Played 9 today and shot 37 - that was good - had back to back bogeys on the two par 5's, one from 193 in the middle of the fairway (tough second shot if you go for it because there is water right next to the green right and OB left - I chose the water.)

That was bad. :(

Spent the rainy afternoon at top golf. Had about 8 beers but still dominated my friends- was a good time. Lots of rain in Chicago lately.

They are building one of those about 10 min from my house. I am very excited for it to open in about 6 months.

In a word terrible. Shot 77 at my home club and that was only due to the fact that I got up and down from all over. Driver struggles continue so I will be at PGA Superstore looking for a new one today.

I've gotten to the point I just seldom play on the weekend, usually hit the range once or twice, but unless I'm going to start my round at daybreak, it's just not worth the hassle.

My wife and I got up early and hit the course at 6am. It was already 78* but that's a lot better than that the 112* that it's supposed to be today. Had 3 birdies in the first nine holes. The #2 hole par 4 has been mine lately. I own it. I have birdied that hole the last four times I've played it! After the 3 birdies... Nothing! Haven't played much in the morning lately, but for the next 10 days, the forecast is for temps from 107-114*. Guess I will play early for a while.
