How'd you play?

My wife and I got up early and hit the course at 6am. It was already 78* but that's a lot better than that the 112* that it's supposed to be today. Had 3 birdies in the first nine holes. The #2 hole par 4 has been mine lately. I own it. I have birdied that hole the last four times I've played it! After the 3 birdies... Nothing! Haven't played much in the morning lately, but for the next 10 days, the forecast is for temps from 107-114*. Guess I will play early for a while.

I'm planning to get out to the course at daybreak tomorrow, not to avoid the heat, but to avoid all the weekenders that will start showing up between 10a-11a! - lol

Had a great round today, was asked to fill in in a pennants match for the division 5 team from our club.  Managed to win 6 & 4, drained a 25 foot birdie putt from just off the green to deliver the coup de gras and shot a solid 79 off the stick.  It's the best round I've had in recent memory and I'm starting to feel like I've got a handle on my swing again. :)

Played my home course today and tested out the FG Tour. Had a fairly solid front although had three 3 putts in the first four holes. It finally started coming around by the 6th hole where I started to lag closer and hit 4-5 footers well. My putting has been horrific as of late as I'm struggling to adapt a technique that's consistent. On the back I had 3 pars on 4 holes I struggle with. There was no explanation other than I was smashing my irons. The wheels came off on 15 though. I had no sleep and in 110 degree heat it finally caught up to me. I couldn't hit the driver the way I was and had 2 drives become lost. Overall shot 89 but the ball striking was a lot better with irons and I was on track for an 85 before the wheels fell off.

One of my worst days ever. I keep trying to make a 46" shaft work and can not do it. It kills my drives.

But I did discover he awesomeness of a steel shafted 4 hybrid that tore through the hard ground like a bulldozer and smashed the ball.

I now believe that steel shafts and extra stiff graphite shafts are for me.

Played 14 holes at -2 today. Everything was flush, straight at what I was aiming for even in lots of wind. I'm playing the tips but temp greens so I get shorter shots in right now, still those greens are nothing. I'm planning to play my league course on Tueday with some friends. It will be nice to see wider fairways for once. But I hit all but one fairway today and the miss was on a par 5 where I could get it back in play and hit a short iron tight for birdie.

You know those rounds where you don't do anything great and don't do anything bad? You are just kind of playing and everything is fine and then you're done. I had one of those rounds. Shot an 83, but it was 102 degrees and I was exhausted by #6.

My new SM5's are everything they are cracked up to be. Love them. Can't wait to try out my 60 PM grind Mack Daddy when it gets here.

Had one of those rounds today but had 3 blow up holes- 2 with a big excuse.

Was on track for a 43 on the front where anything above 45 for me is normal. Then the 9th hole hit and I tripled it after being in the fairway 100 yards out lying two. My alignment got fouled up.

Back nine was equally the same, until 17. 17 and 18 I usually par or better and bogey or better respectively. One problem. On 16 I'm driving down to the green when I feel a dull pain in my left hand, right around the area where your thumb and hand connect. I usually get a cramp in there, but this one started to really hurt like I had a deep bone bruise. I took off my glove and it was already swollen. 17 and 18 I could barely grip a club and hit a poor drive behind a tree on 17, hit a tree and then could barely putt. On 18, it was a good drive, but 6 iron that went way too far right and a few 9 irons that I couldn't grip. Ended up with a 91, but should have been a 87. Currently it's in a ace bandage and the swelling has gone down. It flares up every now and again but I still can't grip a club -- on 17 and 18 I couldn't even grip a water bottle. Needless to say I'm taking it easy this week.

Ho-hum 81 in Saturday, one birdie , a bunch of bogeys. Sunday, played in he inter club, I will set his up with the greens, for whatever Eason the club we played at thought rolling them at 13-14 on the stimp was a good idea. Ok, started off good, then the wheels came off on 4, I was bottom boarding every shot and I could not make a putt, finished the front 9 with a really nice 46. We go to 10 tee, where I promptly hit the ball 30 yards straight to the right and OB. Re-tee and stripe it, any way double on 10, that put me 3 down in the match, get 1 back on 11, and then short downhill par 3, 118 on the bushnell, playing best guess 95, hit my 58 full, and stick to 2 feet, so got anther one back, I'm feeling good, we trade back and forth going gong to 16, and I am now down 2 with 3 to go, 16 and 17 both par 5's weird layout, I missed a short 3 footer for birdie to win 16 and we tie, down 2 with 2 to go, I made 12 foot put to win 17, we g to 18, it's the number 2 hcp hole, so I have to give up a shot and I'm down 1, I hit 5wood to keep the ball in play there is water down the left side, a huge bunker right, 3wood or driver brought both in to play, the other guy hit his ball into the water hazard, he drops and is hitting 3, I'm sitting 171 pond in front, I need to hit a golf shot to try to halve the match, I knocked a 7 absolutely pure, and it stopped 6 inches from the hole, he conceded the halve. I was grinding all afternoon, and it paid off, I felt good about halving he match, I had to give up 7 shots in be match as well, as it went, out match didn't mean diddly, our club lost 15-3, not good, shot 39 on the back 9, for 85.

I'm pretty much at the point now where I'm playing to my handicap regularly and starting to get familiar with how to play my new home course.  My better rounds still seem to be at the courses I've played before getting a membership here.

There's a 5 lesson series for groups starting tonight I signed up for, so maybe it will help to have somebody look over what I'm doing, since it's been 2 years since I've had a lesson.

I'm glad I signed up for the group lessons!  Overall, there's not anything I really hadn't  gone over before, when I was taking lessons, however the lack of having an instructor looking things over and making suggestions for "quirks" I'd picked up or compensations I was making since my shoulder injury are helping.  Played my most consistent round today at 2 under my handicap and without a mental error that drowned one of my balls, could have been my best round this season!

I'm planning on asking the instructor if we can get together once a month or so, after the group series ends in a couple of weeks.

Glad it's working out. I wish I had an instructor close. My instructor lives in OKC in the summer and Orlando in the winter. That's one of the problems with traveling to a golf school and having a swing that no other instructor wants to work with (or I don't want them to mess up). He is going to have a class in Vegas at the end of September, and I can drive there in just over 12 hours!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Had a reasonable round today and managed to come in third place with 37 stableford points 81 off the bat.  Almost back to some decent form and hit some great shots.  Once again the putter let me down somewhat but I'm looking forward to my rounds again :)

Shot 83 today. Felt much better than I've been playing recently with my last 3 rounds at 91,89,90. Hoping that I'm pulling through the bit of a slump I was in.

On the first par 5 I was 117 out for my 3rd shot. Smooth 50° SCOR. Dunked it according to the guys standing next to the green. But it popped out and rolled back to 15 feet which I proceeded to 2 putt for a par. Would've been my first hole out from greater than 100 yards. Maybe next time.

Who new the 3rd of July was such a busy golf day? I didn't take into account that everyone would have the 3rd off. So I go try and walk on as a single, grab a 6 pack of my favorite IPA on my way, put my name on the list and head out to the practice area. Well 2 hours later they call my name. Needless to say after 2 hours I'm about 5 beers in since I was just waiting around. I lost track of my beer count since I was having so much fun messing around with my new 60* PM Grind and at 8.7% abv I was a little blitzed by the time I had to tee off.

Shot an 82, hit some great great shots, including sticking a 205 yard 6 iron 6" from the pin for my almost hole in one of the day. Had some awful shots, like hitting a 125 GW about 15 yards right of the green into some of the deepest rough I've ever been a part of. Either way, I was out of beers by #3 and it was 100 degrees out. It was a long round.

Well, I'm almost ready to put the sticks away for the rest of the season. I started having problems with my irons a couple of weeks ago. Everything goes right, almost like a shank, but not quite. It's spilled over into the rest of my game now.

I can't get off the tee with the driver or the irons. I can't chip or putt anymore. You know how Tiger looked a few months ago?.... that's me right now. My last 3 rounds have been 94 - 51 for 9 holes on league - and 99 yesterday. It's like I've never played the game before. It's no fun and it's embarrassing to play in front of other people. I have no clue what's wrong or how to fix it.

I realize the money is an issue but perhaps your muni has a very affordable group lesson. Ours does, it works for lots of people. Baring that get someone to video your swing and put in on here. You will get tons of comments many of which will be more dangerous than helpful. But there are a few people here who might spot something that could be simple enough to fix. You know who to listen to and who to when it comes to swing advice. If you don't PM me and I will be glad to let you know. I'm not going to insult anyone but I will tell you that I'm not one of the people that you should listen to.

Swing problems are normally simple things.

Good luck!

Thanks Rev. I appreciate it. This happened to me about 5 years ago, also. It lasted for almost 2 months and then it just went away and I could play again. I have no doubt it is something simple. I just can't put my finger on it.

I haven't seen the pro at my home course for a while. I have taken a few lessons from him in the past and he has helped me a lot. I'll have to ask tomorrow when I attempt to play again if he is still teaching.

I've been taking lessons and getting video practice at GolfTec.  They have an intro deal where you have a one hour swing evaluation where they hook you up to sensors and show you on video how your set up and swing positions vary from standard range and offer suggestions how to improve.  If nothing else, you get a video analysis that you can later pull up on line and review from time to time.  You can just do the one session with no future obligation.  I think they have a special going on for $95 for the evaluation.  I really find the video feedback helpful.  Its just my inherent inconsistency that prevents me from doing what I want to do all the time.

Put an old driver in play yesterday and was crushing the ball with a small baby draw. The problem was I usually play a baby cut and they were starting out waaaay left. I started out +10 through 6 holes. That's right lady's and gents, +10 through 6. I set the driver to open after that and was only +3 the rest of the way but wow.... 47 on the front 9 yesterday. I can't remember the last time that happened. On a side note, my buddy beat me for the first time yesterday. He is prolly a 10-12 handicap and I'm hovering between 0-1 so I know he enjoyed it. At least somebody enjoyed the round!

Edit: just counted and I took driver 12 times yesterday. By my estimations, it cost me either 8 or 9 strokes... Damn

Not with regularity as I can't remember the last time it happened. Needless to say, that driver isn't coming out any time soon again. If the round had meant something I would've quit taking driver after a couple of holes and salvaged a number but I wanted to work on it because I'm hardheaded. I ended up bogeying 18 to shoot 85. Fitting way to finish the round.

Just remember Tiger shot 85 a few weeks ago and he is in the hunt this week. Bad rounds happen my friend. Some are just worse than others.

BTW, I don't hit my 3H 282 yards, I just screwed up with the GPS.

Played from the tips on Friday, shot 82, with 2 doubles. One of them on 18, a par 5, from the middle of the fairway. Today, we played the whites in preparation for the member member tourney next week, I shot 79, not bad but I finished the round, bogey, bogey, bogey. Frustrated at the finish, but I played ok. I have had a quick transition from the top lately, resulting in either a nice draw, or 35 yard hook. Since I know it was going to go right, I was able to play it most of today.

Two Horrible rounds this week. Friday & Saturday rounds were devastating! Driver was fine but couldn't chip or putt...There is always my next round on Tuesday. The Tuesday game will be played at Rogers Park in Tampa. This is a terrific track, built in 1952 by the Black Caddies Association. Great place for a bounce back round.

Played early today with my wife to avoid the heat. Hit the course around 7am but had no rhythm, driver was shorter than usual, chips kept checking up on the soft, wet greens, and didn't have any close putts. Just a so-so, OK but not great round. I don't think I am used to playing in the morning yet, having played most rounds after work around 5pm. The course is different, certainly this old body is different!!

Tomorrow, my wife and I are traveling up the valley to play a course we played about a month ago. Nice track, but with a 7:04am tee time, I wonder if I will have another so-so round.

Had a solid round today and shot 36 points that included a triple on 16 that really hurt and prevented me from breaking 80 for the first time in a month or so.  We have these nasty little things called grass trees that are ball magnets and they eat balls as well as making a swing to escape them nearly impossible when the ball is underneath their fronds.  My irons were really crisp and I was crushing my 3 wood off the tee seeing as my driver was only cooperating sporadically.  For a change I made 2 really critical putts and a chip in at different times to keep the round going.  The first was a 20 foot down hill left to righter from just off the green for bogey on our index 1 hole it curled into the centre of the cup.  The chip in was on 9 a par five with an elevated green.  I had to flop a shot onto the green and get it to release enough to roll up to the hole it did and went in for a 4 and that allowed me to shoot 2 under my handicap for 20 points.  The next putt was on 14 again from just off the green,  A 25 footer left to right that curled into the side door when any door would do for another birdie 3.  I finished with a two over 16 points and with out the triple on 16 a possible 39 so I was happy.

I have included a picture of a grass tree and recommend if you ever visit here to avoid them at all costs.  They are a nasty thing and harbour kangaroo ticks, eat golf balls and generally piss golfers off in a major way.  They also have a secret name that I can't publish on these forums.

Played mid morning today and suffered through a six hour round of golf. The group in front of us had two plus holes open in front of them all day and just refused to speed up, not to mention playing the tips with the longest in the group about 200 yards off the tee. Just a frustrating round of golf that the only good part was the beer cart every few holes.

Ended up shooting a one under 71 that would have been a few better without waiting 15 minutes on every tee. Second round in a row that I drove it well and really liking the 913 D3. Hitting the irons well and still putting well. Highlight of the day was driver - 9 iron into the downwind par 5 17th that was playing 519 yards.

Got stuck on the bogey train today on the front nine.  Four straight bogies which for me equates to one point on my stableford card score - actually there was a double thrown in there because I got a shot on one of those.  I still managed to shoot 16 points or two over my handicap and 33 for the round.  It was a good comeback but there certainly was some patchy golf thrown in.  My best shot was a towering seven iron approach to a par four that finished on the edge of a back flag green and I made a fighting par.  Looking forward to a better game with my Wednesday club in a couple of days.
