My wife and I played Emerald Valley GC outside Eugene OR today. We stopped by to visit the head pro and GM. He was the pro at our country club last year and his mom lives across the street from us. Here are pics of a few holes:

This course has hosted US Open qualifiers and US Amateur qualifiers. It kicked our butts! I shot 88 with six 3-putts. The greens were mostly elevated with lots of slope back to front and very fast. You did not want to be above the hole!! Guess where I was.

Tomorrow we are playing River's Edge Golf Resort in Bend OR. More tomorrow.

Played 18 Saturday. 48/45 for an ugly 93. The front I couldn't hit an iron. The back was solid, but my putting has been woeful. On the plus side, did a great job recovering after the front 9. Only trouble I had was putting on 17 where it was in a really rough spot and I could not keep it close.

I think a trip using the putting mirror will help everything out.

Played in league tonight. Started on 14 again. Started with a triple. Toughest hole on the course for me. Made a 10 there last time. I'm typically happy with a bogey. I need to come up with a new strategy for it. After that I settled down and played the final 8 holes in +2. Won the medal points with a net -1 to my opponent's net +5. Won 6 holes which are a point each and won the match 3&2. The 3 holes I lost were the ones I had to give him strokes on (the triple and two unnecessary bogeys).

The game is feeling good. Just need to get that 14th hole figured out.

Played in league tonight and shot 75. I was all over the place, only 7 fairways, but 9 greens, chipped okay and only took 29 putts. I made par from all three fairway bunkers that I was in.

However had I hit it like that off the tee at Bayou I'd still be out on the course. :)

Got rained out all last weekend, working late all week, buying a new ride on Saturday and then playing in our opening day tournament at the club on Sunday.  I purposely did not sign up since I heard it was a 6 hour plus round since all the older folks play. Head pro called me this morning and guilted me into playing. There is even a rule that if you are over 85 you can play the white tees.  Miracle if I break 80 and don't need bail money.

Yesterday my wife and I played River's Edge in Bend Oregon. Mmmmmmbuddy said I wouldn't like it and he was right. I'm not posting my score; it was embarrassing!! This is a course that requires a lot of local knowledge, and we've never played it before. I think there were blind tee shots on half the fairways and elevated tees where the drop to the green or fairway was 100-200 feet. Pretty course unless you're playing it. Here are a few pics:

This is mountain golf at its worse. My shot down the middle went over the hill and the fairway slopes hard to the right. Ball in the rough and rough is no good. Who puts a mound of rough smack in the middle of a fairway??!!

Well, today we played the Juniper GC in Redmond, Oregon. Now this course I recommend. Absolutely beautiful views of the Three Sisters mountains in the Cascade range.

I shot a mediocre 86 but it could have been better if I had more time on the greens; very quick and plenty of slope. Overall, a nice sunny day with temperature near 80.

Dude if it were me, I would see how the first few holes went and if it goes slow let the alcohol flow. Give up on scoring if the round creeps by. You'll have more fun that way. I've been there.

Well, after being beat up the last couple of days, my wife and I played a short, easy course. We headed over to Crooked River Ranch where they have a nice course. I played from the tips (whee! It's only 5800y, so not too challenging). I shot +2 on the front but after the second double from the drink cart girl, I shot +7 for an 81. The highlight of the day was on #5 a short par 4 sharp dogleg left. This is a view from the back tee.

ImageUploadedByMyGolfSpy1463104418.610808.jpg

You can see the green in the distance with a bunker in front. I drove over the trees to just in front of the green but couldn't get better than par. My wife from the forward tees went over the corner of the dogleg to the middle of the fairway and made eagle from 65 yards out. Her first eagle in the last two years!!

Drove home from Central Oregon today. It's about a 4.5 hour drive. My wife and I headed to our club for an afternoon round on familiar grounds for a change. Usually, I don't play well after a long trip. Shot 42/37 for 79. On #18 par 5 I hit into the fairway bunker off the tee; second shot hit a tree at the dogleg; third shot was in the green side bunker; fourth shot out to 8 feet and one putt for par. Why couldn't I do that on my trip?? I figure home course is worth 5-6 shots for me.

Those were some beautiful pics Kenny. Blind shots with hidden hazzards on a resort course are a huge no no in my book. They are fair game at a club though.

I shot a 41/43=84 today........not bad considering I stayed overnight Thursday in the hospital.....These are things that you deal with as you get older....(rectal bleed).....The Dr's decided I burst a polyp in my intestine.  No pain, no discomfort, just an inconvenience.  Lost 1 1/2 days of work and this is my busy time of the year.

Anyway, I just could not hold up the back nine today...started with 4 Pars, Double, Double, Bogey, Par, Double.  Somehow I have to put the Back nine together.....my goal is no Doubles!

Played in the opening day tournament at my club. Format is best two bet of four. The group is me, a 19, a 22, and a 28 in sustained 30mph winds with gust over 50 mph. Threw up a solid 87 from the tips and was low gross for the tournament. Absolutely brutal conditions and was never so happy to be off a golf course. The par 3 14th played dead into the wind and I hit 4 iron from 155. Hopefully tomorrow is less wind.

Shot 39-42 81 today. The greens were so flipping firm that it was ridiculous. I played with a guy who is a scratch and used to be better and he shot 75 with 4 birdies. He spins the ball extremely well and struggled to hold the greens, I couldn't.

My club had a 2-day, 2-man better ball tournament this weekend.  One of the teams dropped out after Saturday's round because one of the guy's wife had a baby.  So the pro asked my wife and I to be markers for the two guys they would have been playing with.  Both were young, one a 2 and the other a 5 hcp.

Granted it was very cool today with rain off and on and a breeze, but they shot 79 gross, 74 net. They finished last in 1st flight.  I had a bad day for me; 89 and my wife shot 90.  If we had been in the tournament we would have been 80 gross and 66 net; that would have been 3rd place in the 2nd flight.  If I had my usual round which is around 82, we would have placed first for the day.  I did shoot 81 yesterday.  Maybe we should play in the next one?  I'll check to see if the Men's Club would let my wife play in it.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Went out today for an afternoon 18. Played a track out in MO I haven't been to in quite a while. +1 36 on the front side, two bogies and a birdie on #9 520 yard par 5. Put a 4 iron to just off the right side and got up and down. Back side started with back to back bogies. Missed a 10 ft eagle putt on 13, tapped in for birdie. One more bogey on the back for a +2 37. 36/37:73. 10/12 fairways and hit 10 GIR, one green under regulation. Couldn't get and putts to drop. Great day overall though

Played in a four man scramble today at Old Westbury CC for a charity I support through my company. Wind was just as brutal as yesterday with a constant 20-25 mph breeze and gusts over 50 mph.

My group was me at scratch, a 1.4, a 1.9 and a 14.3. We ended up with -7 for a 65 and lost on a match of cards. A group of mid teens handicaps miraculously shot 65 as well....shocking.

At the end of the day I had a fun day out of the office, played a great golf course and hit the ball a hell of a lot better than yesterday. Bonehead move of the day was leaving my 9 iron at home and playing with 13 clubs. I really could have used that 9 iron.
