How'd you play?

You only have a shot if the HCP is legit.  Play well.

I also need to play somewhere near my index and lately that has not been happening very often.

Tried to hit balls the last few days and was not successful by anyone's definition. Playing the first round of the season long club match play championship tomorrow vs a 15 handicap....I have no shot. Then playing a three day $250 a man Memorial Weekend tournament. Hoping the later three rounds put some cash in my pocket.

Wow, you are correct you don't have a shot, legit cap or not, if there is a slim shot it's that you shoot under you cap and how he doesn't shoot under his. We always say that it hard to beat strokes, we played in a 2 man stable ford a few weeks back and 2 of the high clappers paired up, we played both score count, and then you add the hcp strokes at the end they were getting 48 strokes, they need to pull 26 points as a team to match there cap, they finished with 73 points and won the net game by 3 shots, there caps are legit, so it was just really difficult for the other teams, because both players had to play well and beat their own points to get close, food luck, 15 shots is a bunch to overcome.

15 is a lot, but definitely not insurmountable. I've usually found in net match play whoever shoots their handicap wins. Just depends if you catch them on the upswing or the downswing. I'm a 5.2 (course 6) and my first match is against a buddy who is a +4. I know both our caps are legit so it just depends if I can shoot in the mid-high 70's or if he shoots in the 60's

In my opinion, handicaps don't work well with match play. I would prefer to see 2/3 or 3/4 of a handicap used during match play events.

But if it's the same for both players then what's the difference?

FINALLY played my first round this season at my home course!  The only other round I've played since Orlando in January was a practice round with my instructor last month.  It seems like all Spring, when the weather's been good I've been busy, when the weather's crappy I have time...

Played an 87, which is pretty close to my handicap, so I'm actually feeling better about my prospects for playing some decent golf this summer - lol

If the weather gives me a break, I've got tee-times for 5 of the next 6 days!!!

At least knowing the caps are legit helps it usually does come down to who shoots at or very near their cap, it's really about making par when you have the opportunity, since he is essentially giving you 10, you need par when you get a pop, take advantage of any mistake he makes. Should be fun at least since you are playing a good buddy.

Turns out I was wrong on the index and I was giving 19 shots which is almost impossible. The front 9 is a bit longer than the back and I made the turn 1 down. Made birdie on 10 and then it was downhill from there. Had to give two shots on 12 and halved the hole with me making birdie. Halved 13 with a par and then lost 14, 15, and 16 with pars. I am not really going to question his handicap but he is one of the better 18s I have ever played. I ended up shooting 73 on my ball and lost 3 & 2. Match was a bit better for me than I thought it would be.

My old club did handicapped match play by starting the higher handicap player up a certain amount of holes and playing straight up. So long as you are doing what you need to do, you can dig out of the hole, but if you don't start winning fast, it's a short day. On one hand, teeing off 8 down is pretty rough, but having to give two shots on a hole isn't fun either. I wish I knew the formula they used to determine how many holes a player started up.

How does that work when a -1 is playing an 18? Does that mean i could have just hit the bar and bagged the round of golf?

Obviously not playing very well to start the season. I'm still trying to reset my swing back to form but the greens at my home course are terrible. About a 2% chance of making a birdie putt outside 2 feet. Shooting middle 80's right now. Putting is normally a strong part of my game

You must have posted another 9 hole score of 41 on another day.

A 9-hole score is held until another 9-hole score is posted.  I am not sure how they combine them if they were played on different courses though.  Probably a formula of some kind.

The second column of your score history in GHIN is the score type or T.  It shows H for Home, A for Away, T for Tournament, and C for Combined, meaning two 9-hole scores.  I quit posting 9-hole scores a couple of years ago, because when we play 9, I am usually in "practice mode", meaning I might hit more than one shot from certain locations.

Very ugly 30 Stableford points, yet another stretch of bad holes through the middle, 5 over from 10-13, with a 4 putt thrown in(my 2nd for the day) Finished solidly, 1 over for the last 6.

Played off 5 at my club for the first time, conditions were tough with pins almost off the back of most greens, with a 2 club wind and showers thrown in.

Played the first round of our three day Memorial tournament and was relying on my partner to carry me since he was getting six shots. He shot 98 and I shot 76. As you may guess we got drubbed by an 11 and a 13.

First round of the year with the Hogans and Titleist gear and hit it very well. The lower flight is a w clone relief in the wind that is normal at my club. Only change for round 2 is going to be a hybrid swap from the Titleist 913s to my Adams stuff.

My wife went out this morning to play with ladies at the club.  Since we joined this year, they have been trying to get her out to play with them.  She finally agreed to play today.  She was glad they didn't all stop at the turn to do their nails!  I met her at the turn and she seemed to have fun, but she shot 90 which is about 5 shots more than when we play.

I joined a single from Seattle and only played nine holes.  Good stick, said he was a 14 but if he could putt he would be a 7.  You'd like this Foz... he was playing a blue Cobra Fly-Z but no putter!!  He would putt with that driver and chip with it if the ball was within 5 yards of the green. He actually putted pretty decent with it.  He said that he has a bad case of yips and a garage full of putters!  It's sad really... he struggled and I just made putts.  We actually hit it off pretty well, and when he comes back on his next trip, we will get a tee time.  He loves my course.

The guy from Seattle that I played with yesterday used a poker chip to mark his ball.  He said that he was in Vegas once and won pretty big, and after that used a $1000 chip to mark his ball. Sure enough!  He lost it.  I wonder if someone turned it in?

Sure they did. Unfortunately it got turned in at the casino it was from in Vegas. I have some $5 and $10 chips in my bag that I use as ball markers.

Played horrible this week. Saturday I shot 91 and today I shot 93......it's most definitely not the change in clubs, rather, it is my left ankle again. I have been playing without my ankle brace for the past two months with no issues. Heck I even have my tan line back at the ankles...But this weekend I have experienced some really bad golf, and it's because I am subconsciously tryIng to protect my left ankle. This causes me to not lead with my hips from the top of my swing thereby leaving my weight mostly on my right foot. I have lost distance and accuracy. So it's back to the brace....I may have consider shelling out $200 for the Ricky Fowler Puma Hightops.
