How'd you play?

I absolutely hate the humidity.  It just sucks the energy right out of me.  This weekend it only got to 102, but it's a dry heat... later in the day.  The problem is that golf courses water all night long, and when the sun comes up, so does the humidity until the grass gets dried out.  Playing at 10am the front nine is miserable; shirt and shorts are soaking wet.  By the middle of the second nine, clothes are all dry.

I have spent most of my golfing days in Florida in July.  I am always happy to leave.

Played a bunch on vacation last week in NW MI. Started at Arcadia Bluffs. If you haven't played there, you need to get there! Beautiful course, third time I've played it. Tee to green, it was a stripe show (Thanks Bridgestone JGR!!) around the greens it was a horror show. Poor wedge/bunker play, couldn't get the green speeds correct even when I COULD read the putt.

Played the rest of the week with lots of buddies at a smaller course nearby. We usually play scramble and blind draw the teams. Good tee to green play held, and the putter warmed up too! Won two (for us) pretty big events!! All in all, an awesome week!!

My Fantasy Football drafts are coming up this Saturday.  We start with a golf game on Friday as several participants fly in from GA & North Carolina.  We then have a scramble Saturday morning followed by a live draft.  My second group drafts live Saturday night.......Probably gonna need Uber to get me around Saturday....LOL  It's great to mix the draft with some golf, especially since some of the players live out of state.  Anybody else mix their FF Drafts with some Golf?

My home course(and my place of work) Imperial opened back up today and I had to play one last time before college takes me away. To say the course was in rough shape would be an understatement, it was really bad. That didn't stop me from getting a 40 through 9 holes. I stopped after nine due to bad weather. I swapped out my TaylorMade Ghost Tour Black Indy for my Scotty Cameron GoLo 5 and man did it light a fire for my putting skill. I was putting like Speith out there. I also had the chance to play with the VKTR hybrids a bit more. I learned a good deal about them today and formed an opinion on them, but no spoilers here ;)

We started on the back and I had the best round of the year going.  On #5, our 14th hole, I hit a great drive and put my second shot 20' from the pin on the #1 handicap hole.  That's when lightening flashed across the sky.

We headed for the club house and finally gave up on golf after looking at the radar.

Oh well.  There's always tomorrow.

I didn't want to have a Caddyshack moment.

Shot a 43 last night on a course I'd never played before. Struck the ball extremely well with every club in my bag, but lipped a couple putts that would have solidified the round a bit more.

Still looking at the cup when I putt as was mentioned in another post here and it has improved my flat stick immensely!

Like Foz I have a fantasy football golf/draft set up for this Saturday and hopefully everything continues on an upward trajectory!

I'm also having trouble getting out as much as I'd like between the weather and the people dying.  Funeral today, Saturday and the Saturday after that plus all the time with mourning families that goes with it.

It's pretty draining emotionally. :(

Your "business" can be very tough at times, and I am glad for the families that they have you around in their time of need.  I hope you get a chance to make it out on the course soon where you can spend some quality "me" time.  You need it.

We won our week 16 league match 16-11 against the team currently in First place last night. My partner played really well.

I had a couple early hiccups, a chunked chip and 3 putt on a relatively easy par 3 that my opponent went out of bounds on to score a 7, and a hosel rocket ob on a par 3! Besides that I played some of my best golf all season. Was super frustrating though, because my opponent was draining long putts all night. I think he had a total of maybe 12 putts. He had for sure 6 1-putts throughout the day, and none of them were gimmes!!!5s1yD4R.jpg

Rough night last night in the league.  Felt like I hit the all decently, but decently led to not clearing one hazard on the approach to a par 5, missing too far left into a hazard on a par 3, getting lazy on a tee shot coming off a double and losing it to the right hazard (penalty strokes adding quickly). So that's how it went, too many doubles and not enough pars.

Fortunately the short game was very sharp and saved a horrible round (49) from becoming something approaching a number I hadn't seen in quite a while.

Decided to make a voyage to visit PGA West specifically TPC Stadium. I played from blues and shot 95, but the heat got to me (110+ and humid). I did manage to hit the 223 yard par 3 green and two putt for a par. Even better, I birdied the island hole after hitting an approach to 40 feet. That course is tough and very long but a lot of fun as well.

Been away for work most of the last several days and while I did not get to play I did win a putting contest at the center bar in my company's casino in the Bahamas.  Granted it was 4 am and there may or may not have been tequilla involved, but there was a nice pile of cash involved that my wife has already claimed.  Even managed to get an invite to Abaco to play golf with some staff of the PM of the Bahamas.

Played the final match of our regular season last night. Came away with the win. We play a modified version of team match play, you get 1 point for beating your opponent, you partner gets 1 point for beating his opponent and you get one point for low total. So on every hole there are 3 points up for grabs. We ended up winning last night 14-13. That will hopefully be enough to get us at least second in the regular season. Felt like we should've scored a little better, just got a little unlucky, and I couldn't make a birdie putt to save my life.

Yet another messy round. 9 over playing off 6, including the now standard 3 doubles. Couldn't hit the planet with the driver, until the last when I finally got a good one away. Putted solidly, one 3 putt, a very slick downhill, downwind one. Wind was up, about 3 clubs worth. Really need to remove the multiple doubles that are killing me.

Played today for the first time in almost two weeks and decided to change the bag up. Went with my winter bag and a driver I picked up yesterday and hit everything well. Shot a three over 74 with even par on the back. If I can ever figure out how to read the greens at my club I will be four to five shots better. Lipped out four birdie putts in a six hole stretch today.

Nice shooting. I've still yet to shoot even par or better on 18. I've shot even and under on one nine, but can never string two of them together

I have not been able to string together two nines without a big number lately. Helped that I drove it well today for a change.

Played 18 at my home course. After a bogey double double start I settled down a bit, including hitting a birdie on a par 5. I hit every wedge either to a foot or put it 10 yards past. Only one wedge was left short, and that was a green side chip. I could not hit a pitch close to save my life. Ended up shooting 44 on the front and 40 on the back for a really well put together 84 for me. My irons were pretty garbage but I kept them in play a lot and gave myself a bunch of looks.

My wife told me the same thing. The travel is fun at times and grinding at other times, actually most of the time. For every trip that I have some fun there are ten others that all I do is work.

If I were to tell you I hit 11 of 14 fairways (and bogie the holes I didn't) and have only one three putt and strike my irons fairly well overall, you might think I shot my course handicap (15) or better. If you did, you might be very, very wrong. Friday I had the worst score for hitting the ball pretty decent overall. An incredible 46-55, 101! 14 strokes over course handicap and worst score in a couple of years. What happened! Five times in the bunker, 11 strokes including two penalties to get out. Four iron shots where I foolishly tried to incorporate a lesson tweak without any range practice (four wildly left iron shots trying to concentrate on squaring my left hand at impact, each resulting in a penalty shot and each leaving me a long distance from the hole--almost an OB impact). Add in two muffed chips and a good day ball striking totally ruined. Ouch!

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

Sounds like one of those days... we have all had them.  Lucky for your handicap that you can only post a maximum of a 7 on any hole.   :)

Day late, shot a 96 Saturday 2nd time playing the course I was at. Put the driver on the bag after the 8th hole and teed off 3w rest of the way. Lag putted really well with only one 3 putt. I did finish strong with 3 straight pars so at least there was that.

An interesting weekend to say the least.  It all started on Friday night; my wife and I usually play after she closes her business at 5pm.  I got to the course at 4:30 and found out that a tournament was just finishing around 5pm and another shotgun tournament started at 5:30.  No golf for us.

We played Saturday with a young guy that hasn't played in 10 years.  He sucked.  He played with his Father-in-law from St. George, UT who was visiting.  A decent older player (wait a minute, I'm an older player too!!), but he clearly had trouble with the course.  I don't play my best when I play with people that I have to help find their balls.  However, I managed to shoot +4, +4 for an 80.

We were told on Saturday that the course would be closed all day Sunday for some big private golf outing for Baxter Auto Parts, a chain store here in the Northwest.  So, we played at the other course in the area that is managed by the same company and we get 1/2 price green fees because of our membership.  This is a nice course that is about 200 yards longer from similar tees at my course, and has a higher course rating than my club.  We had thought about joining this club last year, but it is a little out of or way.  We usually play it once or twice a year, but we hadn't played this year, until today.  It was only 100* but there was a 10-15 mph wind.  I had no birdies, but scrambled around the course with 7 bogeys, so +5, +2 for a 79.  It took me a few holes to get the green speed correct.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
