Rusty1885
Played the course that I'll be playing in the tournament next week, this morning. We played almost 4 holes in the dark. It rained a little so it's still dark at 6:45am( we tee off at 5:45). First time I made 2 birdie in the dark 1st and 3rd. It's not a short course but I can't hit driver on many holes on one of the hole I hit 7wd/7wd on, and another dogleg par 5 I hit 5wd/7wd to the fringe. Lost 2 balls but still finished with 76. Almost ready for prime time. My brother and I played together but when we were on the second tee there's a guy who drove up and wanted to join us. He played 3 holes in the dark without any kind of light or glow in the ball. He topped almost every shots, I felt bad for him.

Berg Ryman
Had one of those bipolar rounds in my skins game this morning. +8 on front, even par on the back. Didn't make a putt the whole round, had 5 birdies lip out. Won two skins though. Also payed a $5 Nassau against the other threesome, lost that too, Front and Total. So bet loss of a dollar. Kenny B
I got off to a bad start yesterday; no warmup, no putting, just hit the first tee. I won't be doing that again. We had an early tee time because we wanted to get out in front of a tournament. Last weekend we were behind a tournament and and quit after 2 hours playing only 6 holes. At least this time we didn't have anyone in front of us. Shot 43/40 that included 3 double bogeys. Putter didn't start working until the back nine; I finally made a 20 foot right-to-left birdie on #16, then finished par-par. Rusty1885
Great day for me. Last potential round at the course I'm playing in the tournament this Saturday. Joined up with 2 guys on the second tee, turned out one works at the course. I told him about the tournament and he was giving me all of his local knowledge. Information overload . After a few holes he got my shot patterns and distance down and start plotting the shot plan for me on each hole. I played spectacularly well when I don't have to think about where to put the shots. Shot 35-35, 2 under. It could have been more but I didn't follow his advice on 3 holes, mostly when he told me how much longer it plays I still didn't play enough club. jpcgolf
Another rollercoaster high school golf match (we got to play a very nice course today): Hole 1: Routine Par Hole 2: Bogey from the middle of the fairway from 100 yards (chunked a wedge just short because my ball was on a 50 degree downslope and missed a 8 footer for par) Hole 3: Driver up near the green. Chipped to 10 feet, hit a great put, but it somehow did not go in. It went all the way around the hole without touching anything. I have no idea how it did not go in. Hole 4: Stuffed an 8 iron 175 with a little breeze to 5 feet, birdie. 5: 530 yard par 5, driver to 210 yds, 4 iron to 10 feet, two putt birdie. 6: Ugly tee shot, ugly bogey. My par putt stopped right on the lip. 7: on a 315 yard par 4, I almost had a hole in one. My drive landed in the center of the green, then lipped out on the back pin, and stopped 4 feet above the hole. I yanked the eagle putt and had to make a 6 footer coming back for birdie. 8-9: Ugly bogey on an easy par three (missed another really short putt), but came back with a nice 20 footer for birdie on number 9. Overall, I had 4 birdies and 3 bogeys for a one under 34 but left the round pretty frustrated, even though it was one of my best scoring matches of the season, because If I could've just made a putt, I would of had at least another birdie and an eagle or two. I need to cut out the dumb mental errors that resulted in my bogeys because I can't always make this many birdies to make up for all my dumb mistakes. Overall though, I hit the ball pretty great, and the score was good, but I left the match feeling like I had just lost a chance for the nine holes of my life. I just added up that I had 7 birdies in my last two nine hole matches, but yet only had an aggregate 18 hole score of -1. Too many bogeys!! Rusty1885
I play a pretty boring round of golf this morning. It scared me a bit because I don't want to use up all of good Golf before my tournament this Saturday. It's supposedly my last practice round. I followed the note I made over several rounds in the yardage book and pretty much hitting fairways and greens or close to it. Get up and down or 2 putts on most holes. Shot 34-36 for yet another 2 under par round. This is exactly the round I want to shoot on Saturday. GolfJunkie302
Rough week. Three nine hole rounds, 46, 40, 42. First round, first hole. My partner gives me a yardage with his rangefinder, "It's 150," he says. I hit my perfect 150 club exactly 150 yards. Lands gracefully in the bushes. I said, "That is not 150." He shoots it again, "Oops, sorry, it's actually 130." "Do I need to hit another?" "No, saw exactly where it went." Ended up losing it and had to run back. Next hole, par three. Tee shot way right into a hazard, or so I think. Take the drop and continue to play the hole, ending up with a quad bogey. Ended up finding my original tee shot in a perfectly nice spot... cksurfdude
Last weekend played mostly pretty well (but .. not completely well...) in a charity outing (upstate NY) that my wife and I have participated in the past few years running; one of her good friends is one of the event sponsors. Anyway, we were a 3-man team playing best ball and ended up with a team 78 (gross) .. which I'm really happy with .. especially considering the two other guys only play 2 - 3 times a year! And one guy only started playing a few years ago .. in this tournament! But everyone contributed. We did add a "ghost" member to our team so that we could take 4 shots, if needed, and yes .. many times it was needed. And our friend "Will" (named after the Geico commercial: "Fire at Will!") pulled off a number of good shots all over the course to save Par a bunch of times. Almost made a few Birdies, too, but we just couldn't get those first putts to drop. Way to go, Will! ;-) Ha, but it was all for a good cause and we were certainly not ever in contention for first place! I was able to contribute a few tee shots (surprising myself) and a number of approach shots, long and short, plus some greenside shipping. Putting was also good but here each team member definitely contributed .. including the "weakest" golfer who sunk several clutch putts for us. Didn't win any prizes .. despite dropping a few hundred on raffle tickets .. but again: all for a good cause .. and we got two good meals, a couple of beers and a great round of golf out of it. And the real winner? "Friendship", as my friend Joe kept quipping. So anyway, one of my "takeaways" from the day is that even though I played way waaaay much better than last year (and all prior years) - I'm starting to "get" a better first-hand insight into just how hard it is to score really low over 18 holes .. by yourself! .. in this game!!! Kenny B
Tied my all-time best score at my course today. Shot +1 on the front and even par on the back for a 73. I shot 73 once last year. The Ping Sigma G Doon has really been working. I love this putter!! I chipped in for birdie on #3, the #1 handicap hole. I birdied the par 5 #9 hole, then followed it up with birdies on #10 and #11. I thought I blew the round on the par 5 #18, driving into the fairway bunker short of the dogleg. Punched out to the corner, then tried to reach the green ending up in the bunker short. The pin was back, so I had about a 25 yard bunker shot; hit it to 8 feet and made par. I'm worried about tomorrow. I've had this feeling before. When I shoot a really good round, I expect to shoot something similar the next time, and I usually end up disappointed. Rusty1885
I had the best day in Golf this year. The tournament turned out to be a 4 man-scramble. My team consists of 3 90s shooter and I. We shot -4. I've never done a 4 scramble before, it was a hoot. After 3 holes we had a solid plan. Although from the look of it, we didn't win anything but we were a foot shy of closest to the pin and 15 yard short of longest drive. My job split between playing it safe or go for it. For the first time I actually felt comfortable and thrived under pressure. I sank many key putts or put the ball in play through out which elevated the rest of the team's spirit and boosted their performance. They stepped up when I missed and kept the ball in play. Love the involuntary fist pump after sinking the clutch putts the last few holes. That was awesome. I will do this again in a heartbeat. Kor.A.Door
I find that most of the time the guys that shoot 90's typically lack distance, and usually slice the ball out of play, so most of their shots while shooting 90's are from the tee, and from hitting it out of play, when playing in a scramble, they likely get to play with clubs they never get to play, therefore they hit better shots, like instead of having to hit driver 3 wood wedge to reach a longer par 5, you hit a good drive and they get to use 6 or 7 iron. And since most times in this format you putt for birdie vs chipping, they make some putts too, they can usually putt ok, but struggle chipping it close, so even though you have high hcp players you can actually score pretty well with them, as long as you strike the ball well and give them a chance with different clubs than they may be used to. Yep exactly. After a few holes I started my cheerleading routine and pumped them up by reassuring them after shots on the fairways or greens. When it's on the green I'd say that's a guarantee par so we have a free run at birdies. I also found that they are often hard on themselves, it's ok to hit bad shots once on a while. Even good shots they didn't react happily, I cheered on. Bad shots, who cares. Good shots hoo ray! cksurfdude and MattF
Nunfa0
Had a game of contrasts today, 44 for the front 9 with an 8 on the par 5 seventh. Was hitting the ball well but getting no result for it. Got lucky on 9 and kicked out of the trees. Just missed the birdie putt but felt that things were about to change. Next nine holes went birdie, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, par, bogey, par, bogey for a back nine of 34 and a total of 78 on a par 73 course. Walked off the course very happy indeed.
